I don’t think I will be sandblasting every inch of the forklift, there are parts that need it, I was more thinking of future truck frames and bodies, just using the forklift as an excuse to buy it sooner. A nice Pinterest photo shoot would be a great idea though.

I have done a bunch of sandblasting, so I understand the nasty mess it makes, the end results are usually worth it.

Today I did something dumb, I opened a door that I my ears told me not to open, but it was too late. You know those beware of dog signs? Well, the barking should have warned me, but I thought I saw the owner inside, nope. I sure as heck wasn’t being menacing, once I realized what was happening I tried to shut the door and that is when the dog bit my hand. Had to grab the door from the top and kind of slam the dog’s head in the door to get him to back off, got the door closed and considered myself lucky it just hurt, no blood. I am not a dog person and I probably never will be, totally my fault.

Do you know these people? Don’t know the whole story. Just seems odd you are opening the door vice knocking.

Junkyard, door was to the office during normal business hours. Usually there is someone in there and you talk to them before going to the yard.

That sounds like a neglectful junkyard. They are courting getting sued with that kind of procedure. Business hours are posted.

No business hours, owner is either there or not, I saw his truck, thought I saw him at the desk, but I was wrong. I agree it isn't a smart thing to have a dog that will bite your customer if the owner isn't there, at least during normal hours, this was at about 3 PM, so not an unusual time to be showing up on a Tuesday. Regardless, I won't make the same mistake again.

Draining the oil in the burb right now, want to do a few more repairs, probably keep the truck in there for the rest of the week, need to get Bev cleaned out and charge the AC system.

Junkyard dogs are usually good at their jobs.

I have been there many times, dog is normally very friendly, I guess not so much when the owner isn't there, caught me off guard. I am trainable, just glad it wasn't a ****** situation, my thumb is a bit sore, but other than that no issues.

I didn't get to see any of that end, but you are right, it would be pretty large. This was part of some tuning system. Lots of cool pieces and parts, saved a bunch of stuff, probably too much. I can't imagine how much the stuff cost originally. :shocking:

I missed my heat window, got some of the shelving in the conex assembled, but it is too hot to do much more. The sun isn't even out and it still feels like an oven. I need to unload Bev, then I can deal with the burb. I am taking Bev to swap out trucks, I am using my Dad's F-550 to pick up some things tomorrow and then again on Sunday when I go to get the diesel Yukon. Funny thing is I found a diesel 2 door Tahoe from Florida, in Mass. Guy wants $4k for it, if it had less miles I would probably say yes and go get it, but he has said FIRM for the price. I have bigger fish to fry right now..........

The forecast for Saturday say 99 degrees, I am not looking forward to that, it is only upper 80s today. At least I have plenty to do inside and I know I can get a few hours outside by starting really early. If I can get to sleep earlier, I could probably have some more time in the morning.

On another subject, I am getting really annoyed that I have to borrow my Dad's truck and trailer. I will need to borrow the trailer again in a couple weeks so I can get the Virginia burb. I just want to buy my own trailer, but I can't find what I am looking for, then when I find it, the price is outrageous and I keep thinking I should just buy a really heavy duty trailer, then I remember I don't actually have a functioning heavy duty truck to haul the heavy duty trailer. That is some heavy duty thinking right there...

Is your dad using it? If not, don't worry about it. My dad and I pass woodworking tools back and forth all the time. Saves money that way and lets us have twice as much as opposed to us buying it all ourselves.

Regarding the forklifts, cleaning/painting it seems like a luxury for when all your other projects are done. It's not customer facing so it doesn't have to look pretty. Get it functioning the way you want it to and start getting your vehicles where you want them. I'd rather have a couple working older cars over a pretty forklift. The forklift can't drive you home.

Issue with borrowing is that anything my Dad “owns” he tells me to get permission from the employee I don’t deal with well, basically it is an annoying and weirdly stressful process every time.

You are right on with the forklift, sometimes I forget that my life could be simple if only I would stop making things so complicated.

Oh, well that's annoying with the borrowing. Get your own in that case.

We all make things complicated for ourselves sometimes. I do it all the time.

I need to just figure that this year will be the borrowing phase, next year will be the owning phase. Seems doable, I just have to bite the bullet and deal with it for now. One foot in front of the other....

This is mind boggling. He is YOUR DAD. You tell the employee you need to borrow the trailer. Holy smokes. I'd lose my mind.

That is why I don't want to get into it, my Dad has good days and bad days, anytime I bring up issues with the employee it seems to be a bad day. I try and roll with it. Another 6 months and things should be better, I just have to be patient.

One of my biggest hurdles is getting the "family" tower site all settled and up and running, once that is done, I will have a lot more time and a lot less stress. By the sounds of things, that should be this fall, I am really looking forward to it.

My afternoon just got annoying. Bev has a leak in the condenser, it didn't do it until after I put two cans of refrigerant in, nice fine mist, that is going to stop me for now.

The maroon burb had a frame repair done at some point, don't know why, but it totally blocks me from mounting push plates for the plow. I pretty much thought that was going to be the case, but I confirmed it today. I do not want to try and modify the repair, I don't know what kind of issues I could end up getting into. I guess I will fix a few more things on it, then sell it. All I need to do is get another burb up and running first, so probably repair the black one.

I may go after that $4k Tahoe after all, at least it won't be rusty.

Dog bite: dude be careful. I was in animal control for five years... even with no blood... a bite can be dangerous. Can chip bones... ruin the soft ends of bones... tendons... damage muscles...

I've seen real bad dog bites too... hanging fingers... severed wrist... very broken arm just from the pressure of the dog jaw clamping down.

Why are small dogs just as dangerous you ask? They are faster and have a mouth full of small sharp teeth.

I hear you Pines, so far no issues other than pride.

I am headed off to get the F-550 and trailer, going to another tower company's shop, they have a bunch of surplus supplies they want gone. Some of it is not really that interesting, but I wanted to catch up with the owner anyways.

After driving Bev yesterday, I remembered why I liked her so much. I think it is time to put a little money into her and end up with a decent truck that will do most of what I want to do. I already own her, so might as well use her. Plan had always been to remove the aluminum box/body and make my own custom bed, at this point I don't think I am going to go crazy with that aspect, just want to have a flat bed on her, then I can use her and when I get to that point, resale value will be up.

Not really that fun.

Later today I am picking up the other small sandblasting cabinet I bought. That will probably be more fun. So far today looks good, temps in the 70s with low humidity, tomorrow it starts to warm up again.

That was an adventure, got everything loaded and back to the shop, now I have to unload everything. Two people and a Lull to load, no problem, one person and 4' fixed forks, should be fun.........

Anyways, glad I went up there, some decent wire, some spools will need to be babied, will probably need to put the wire on new spools, good thing is I can weigh the empty spools, then weigh the full spools and find out how much wire there is. I just need to get the spool trailer, may even try and do that this weekend, would be good to get it over. Then the spools will go inside at my Dad's quonset hut, it is the only way to save the spools from disintegrating, once that happens the wire is almost useless unless you are a combination of (in this order) stupid, lucky, and careful.

Almost got all the stuff unloaded, one of the biggest spools is no longer able to be picked up the easy way, will need to get out the crane to unload it. I am headed out to get some food, then go and pick up the sandblast cabinet. It definitely got hotter than they said it would today. :(

I should be able to have everything ready to go for Sunday when I go and pick up the diesel Yukon and associated pieces and parts.

I ordered the parts for Bev, should be able to get to that sometime next week. If not, then i may drop it off and have a local place finish it.

Yesterday the saga of the bad bed ended, maybe it truly ended this morning when I woke up, either way, I put together the worlds heaviest mattress last night and I slept very well. I used this company:

http://latexmattresscompany.com

They make a case for the foam that has a nice bamboo and wool top, you stuff your choice of latex foam in it and you have a custom mattress. I wish I had just started with these guys, next time I need a bed, I am building one from the ground up. I may still tweak my foam layers, but at this point I can sleep and sleep well.

I am off to pick up the hydraulic reel trailer, so I can coil the wire from the bad reel to the good reel, not sure how well it is going to work, but only one way to find out. At this point the only issue I see is how to keep the old reel from spinning too fast, normally you would use friction on the wooden reel, but I think it would fall apart if I applied any sort of pressure to it. I will probably have to wait for help, otherwise I risk making a serious mess, kind of like a 2 ton slinky that is mad at you.

The guy wire wants to be straight and it doesn’t care if your face is in the way. I have been hit a few times, the smaller wire moves faster, so usually it is with 5/8” or smaller.

I forgot to post pictures of the new little blast cabinet.

Then the spray adhesive that came with the foam mattress pieces, seems a bit off on the logo.

so much for some clear floor space. Nice blast cabinet. Hope the bed helps.

So someone calls you and says Hey we have all this stuff come and get it, free for the taking we are tired of looking at it?

or do you buy this(the latest) at a discount and then do your magic?

I couldn't imagine re spooling that wire, I have enough problems winding up my garden hose.

Wire was totally free, just had to pick it up. Respooling will be a little cumbersome. I am going to use plywood to reinforce the sides of the reels, I think that is the best option at this point. Also looking at buying another reel trailer with brakes. I figure I won't be doing this until sometime in August at this point. I am just gathering the parts now.

There is still quite a bit of floor space, the burb is in there right now, waiting for me to do a few things. I did change the oil the other day, now I need to look at the starter wires and see what I need to replace them completely.

You are on a roll dude, nice work.

And "like a 2 ton slinky that is mad at you" - Ha ha! Scary and hilarious at the same time.

And nice blast cabinet, I'm jealous.

I hope I don't upset you when I tear the blast cabinet apart. :(

I am still trying to get out of the office, looks like (per usual) things are taking longer than I want.

Good to know, I wish I had known years ago, I would have gladly custom made one.

Went to pick up Bev’s condenser, the box had a hole in the middle, ripped it open a bit more, sure enough there was damage. They ordered another one, should be in on Tuesday.

Have to hit the bank after lunch, then I am free to work on the burb.

I am glad when I ordered the foam for the bed, I ordered an assortment, cost me extra money, but this morning at about 2 am, I woke up with the same back pain as before. :(

I opened up the plush foam, pulled the mattress apart and took out the original firm layer, then installed a medium, soft, and plush to top it off. Seems to have worked, but tonight will be the real test. If that doesn't work, I will have to swap the 6" base layer for something less firm.

I am off to pick up a butcher block table, then to look at a cool truck, then I am going to make my rounds in New Hampshire, hitting the pawn shop and surplus store, I figure it will be better than dealing with the heat outside. When I get back, I do need to finish unloading the trailer, one delicate spool and one regular, but hard to reach with short forks spool. Then I am going to prep for Sunday's adventure, back to New Hampshire to pick up the diesel Yukon and all the parts.

Hope you guys stay cool, I will post pictures of the truck later.

Judging by how I feel now, I think the adjustment to the foam that I made worked.

Here is the cool truck, 1955 FWD, also found a Freightliner that may be an option to buy, we will see. I didn’t take pics of the Freightliner, but not as special or cool.
