No, I just punish myself in a different way.
For years I commuted all the way around the 128 loop (around Boston) in stop-n-go traffic, every day. I drove an old GMC cargo van with a standard 3-speed stick that was positioned halfway behind the seat. Try doing that with a broken clutch ankle !

There comes a time when you just don’t have an interest in those things anymore. Now I punish myself by driving 5hrs into Maine, spending 3hrs mowing a lawn, then loading up and driving back to MA. Going up tomorrow.

Picked up the tires this morning, got a few little items to finish wiring up the trailer brakes. My truck appears to have a factory trailer wiring setup and an aftermarket plug in one. I think I am going to set things up using the factory wiring as it seems to be much better quality.

I am getting the trailer early, wanted to make sure everything works, not bad, got all the controls working properly first try.

Packed and loaded, ready to go, I guess. Far from perfect, but I squandered my time and this is what I ended up with. Probably good for me to have a bit of suffering and understanding that it was me that caused it. Next trip should be better, hopefully in a much better truck than the burb, preferably with a trailer that can haul more too.

I have been cleaning things up and making mental notes on what should go and what should stay, I think I have almost figured out how to handle the fire truck situation with the State and all the crazy excise tax that would have to be paid every year. If I can get that ironed out, I will start moving forward on that project.

Will do, have fun on the boat.

Rust is amazing, rear bumper that is only 3/16” thick created a chunk of rust that was at least 1/2” thick and the bumper still had steel left.

I only took a few pictures, will update later. The reel trailer I thought would go for about a grand ended up going for $100, to me. The other trailers I thought would do maybe $1500, sold for $12,500 each.

Once I get the burb carcass loaded, I am headed to Philadelphia area, earliest check in I could get was 3pm, so I will have to hold out until then. So far 24 hours isn’t too bad, but I am sure I will want to take a nap before 3pm. The surplus place and hotel are all near a ********** that opens at 7 pm, so I guess I know where I am going after my nap. ;)

I am guessing they would frown on pics at the club.

Met with the seller at 6:00, had the burb and all the parts loaded and ready to go by 8. Now I am headed to Philadelphia to go to a **********, I mean to go to a military surplus place.

Here are a few pictures of the burb. No VIN tag at all.

More pics to follow, in a bad cell spot and that one took forever to upload.

Back on the Island
Only took 3.5 hours for a GPS estimated time of 2 hours 15 minutes. Had to take 95 from Groton. Had fun fishing talked about boat electronics the whole time. I am placing my order for a system tomorrow.
Safe travels remember Sunday is nuts for traffic.

I will be traveling on Monday, leaving Philadelphia about 10 AM.

Here are a few more pictures of the burb

I have managed to get a couple hours of a nap, now I am going to get some dinner and diesel fuel, also locate the military surplus place via the **********. ;)

After bringing up your name, they escorted me out, took me ten minutes to convince them I didn’t really know you.

Found military surplus location, looks like a great place that is right up my alley. They don’t open until 8 AM Monday, hopefully I can get without too much traffic trouble. Everyone is in such a hurry around here, I feel like the race car spinning around after being passed by a really fast car.

My kind of town. If you're not doing 80, stay in the slow lane. Glad you made it without issues. (other than the bouncers)

I must have missed the back story on that burb. What gives?
That's a great find. I'm selling a 2000 3/4 4wd that we ordered new because of body rust.

GM donated it to a vocational school in Wisconsin, it was taken directly from the assembly line. No VIN at all, never seen the road. Guy in Virginia bought it and ended up not building his project, sold the motor and transmission/transfer case, then sat on it for medical reasons. I lucked into it. The only thing I still am not sure of is how much I paid for it, am I supposed to ad the money I spent at the ********** last night? ;)

I guess I should have called the military surplus place on Friday, they don't just let you pick things up or stop in. Since I am here, I am still buying the one matching tire and rim to the ones on Clark, but I have to wait a couple hours before I can pick it up. At least I haven't checked out of the hotel room yet. I have a feeling I will be coming back for more tires and rims at a later date, I don't really need anything right now, but I would like to have a spare for Clark, so it is worth it for me to wait. At least now I know what they expect and I also know where they are.

On a fuel mileage note, the suburban I am driving has 3.42 gears with tires that are taller than factory, very bad combination for towing. My old burb with 4.10 gears would get just about 15 towing, on the way down, I got 13.5 with the empty trailer and so far after about 300 miles, I am getting 10.5 with a lightly loaded trailer. Bev would't have been much better, but it would have been a more comfortable ride, definitely need to get Bev fixed up so I can take her on the next trip.

Ya traffic moves quick about here. Up the road a piece holds no water here.
On 95 the weavers will jump in front of trucks as they launch slower from stopped traffic. Plus at speed traffic moves 70+ and the distance from bumper to bumper is well below the legal limit. Then at choice red lights we have cameras and people will stop if there at stop line and light goes yellow. Causing many panic stops, they do not trust the system so they even try to stop in the intersection when they could legally continue through light.

Which way did you get to Jersey?

This particular burb is just parts, cab will never have a legal VIN, I could attach one, but that would be illegal. GM could track it if they wanted to, but my guess is no one cares about a 1994 suburban.

As for project completion, I get 50% of my projects finished to at least 50%, but only 50% of the time.

To make matters worse, I bought another truck on the way home.

hhhmmm I possibly could have used that $3500 plow truck!

We will have to do a 'shop' tour soon - though mine is less shop and more 'future shop' . . .

The “low tire” on the burb was actually from someone stabbing a knife into the tire, people are total douche bags, why would you even do that?

25895b63418b74da625af1632a8e26c5.jpg

Luckily I had another spare, but it was a RPITA to jack up since the torsion bars are not installed. Tire is swapped and I am about to move the burb off the trailer and into the shop. Then I have to go back to Massachusetts to get the reel trailer I bought on Saturday. I should be local for the rest of the week, well within two hours of the shop anyways. ;)

People are idiots. Nice score on the donor 'burb. I got a vehicle like that once. Scrapped it by cutting it up into little itty bitty pieces.

The body will be used to fix at least two other trucks that have a bit of the rust cancer. Most everything else will be totally salvageable, some things may actually make me some money.

I really need a trailer, I had to use a come along to lower the burb into the shop, if I owned the trailer, I would have a winch mounted on it. I still think I am going to buy a tilt deck trailer, just seems so useful for what I do.

Mine is more of a 'could be a shop' than is a shop......

But you do more shop/garage stuff in yours! Not that I haven't . . . but it seems rarer for me. Hopefully that will change.

'Shop tour' would most likely work best for me starting in September - currently taking advantage of summer with our daughter. I'll have some of that lactate for you when I come by - or when you come by.

FYI I thought I'd just leave that auto-correct from loctite . . .
