I am gathering the stuff that goes to my Dad's shop, still have two tower sections to dig out as well.

Found three snowplows to go to the auction, a bunch of trash (loading in dumpster tonight), the remaining 56 chevy truck parts, and the 2003 duramax engine and allison trans can go as well. The worst part is that right now it really isn't about getting money, it is about getting back space. Luckily this week is supposed to be decent and I think I can bust *** and get a ton done.

I am prepping for it, don't want to get caught without my mittens on.

I hauled another trailer off to Dad's, loaded the burb with the miscellaneous stuff to go to deep storage at his place. Still have another trailer load of stuff to go, started loading the dump trailer with scrap steel, ***** pricing is so down, but I really don't want to store it, so it is going to go. I have two truck frames that need to get chopped up, this will take some time, need to save certain components from both frames, I think I can get them both done in a day. I think after this week, even with more trucks, the yard will look much better.

I thought I was keeping up, but I don't recall you mentioning the cement truck before. What's the go with that?

That wasps nest is scary! Good call not driving it till you're sure they're gone.

The cement truck was supposed to come to my shop last fall, but it didn’t happen, Dad wants it out of the way this year, so I am taking it. The truck is a 1975 diamond reo and is a 6x6, it has a volumetric mixer on the back, not sure if it can be saved or not. I am hoping to be able to mix flowable fill with it, basically a sand cement mix that allows for easy 99% compaction, levels easily, is very stable under a load, yet you can dig it out with a machine later if you need it gone. I want to use it under the conex boxes and the racking I have. unfortunately the truck frame is junk, I have already given the cab and engine to someone, the cement mixer portion will end up on a trailer, the remaining drivetrain will become part of another truck.

Oh that's just dandy. Bald faced Hornets nest. Have fun with that. We got rid of one on the porch this summer. Took two big cans of hornet spray to dispatch over two dark evenings. Beware they are active even at night.

Don't underestimate the mental space/peace of mind you're getting from getting rid of stuff. We've been sitting on stuff for almost a year in our basement to sell. Makes me stressed anytime I think about going down there to watch a movie so we don't go down there. I'm ready just to donate it all and enjoy getting 15% of my house back.

I've never seem a truck with such a long nose. It's like if I were to draw a truck for my kids.

The nose is custom, we added a much larger Diesel engine at one point. The factory did offer some long noses, not sure if they are the same length or not as you don’t see too many diamond reos on the road.

Unloaded the guy wire from Saturday, now I am going to get the rest of the stuff loaded. It looks like OMO and the knuckle boom may have to wait a bit.

I can tell you one thing, having to wait for someone else’s truck is getting friggin old. All I need to do is hook up quick connects on my Dad’s knuckle boom, but I swear he and his help just created an entire days worth of work with the truck for no reason other than to slow me down. I think I may be paranoid.

I am just waiting for the zamboni to get in the picture.

Speaking of winter are you near Shawnee Peak? There is a masters race thinking about.

From the region that brought you the traffic direction "Up the road a piece"
We have Strouty who is building the perfect set of trucks in that piece.

Shawnee peak is probably an hour and a half away from me and I just say no to any zamboni.

It is so hot and humid out, I feel like it is July again. Trying to get things picked up, but all I want to do is go inside I feel like I have been swimming, except in a pool that is way too warm. I am doing a bit, drinking some water, then doing some more. Nothing like having it be upper 80s with 75% humidity and having a cold, it just doesn't make sense.

I have to admit, looking at the mess in front of the shop is a bit overwhelming, I do not have a home for any of it and it is stressing me out. I need to clean up an area and start setting up the "auction stuff", that should make me feel a bit better. After this load goes to Dad's, I should have enough room to do just that. I still have to get the PTO figured out for the Freightliner, I think that is stressing me out more than anything, I can't get the truck in the shop, between stuff and tasks, it just isn't happening, seems like a self sabotage more than anything, but I can't justify it, especially since it is going to rain tonight, I need to pick things up so I don't end up with tires full of water or Virginia suburbans getting wet.

Loaded the last of the guy wire spools and tower sections, all strapped down, now to concentrate on the shop for a bit, got to try and cool down. Then I can bring a few things around back, stack a few things up and make things look a little better. By the end of the week I want the front of the shop all cleared out, the PTO figured out for the Freightliner, and OMO back here with he knuckle boom safely stowed. Seems doable, but I have a lot on ancillary things that are going on, so might get derailed, the worst part is that everything is "important", guess that means that nothing is really important?

Looking at the calendar, the auction consignment starts in one week! :willy_nil

I am freaking out a bit, that isn't going to leave me much room, in my head there was two weeks. Oh well, I will get what I can over there. :(

Got a bit more done, rain overnight will make a mess of my new area, so I moved a couple trucks back there to keep them out of the way.

Thanks, but I can’t go easy on myself, front of the shop has had **** there almost since the snow melted. It needs to be completely cleaned up in order to make me feel good about things.

Tomorrow should get OMO drivable, then the main concentration is the PTO and auction stuff. I also need to get a trailer setup so I can haul the stuff to the auction. I will also load up the C-70 crane, it has a decent sized deck, should be able to haul a few things.

Well, it will look even better by the end of the week. One thing that I wanted gone will probably not make it this time, the moving trailer, it is still full and I just don’t think I can handle dealing with the mess that would be made from unloading it right now. We will see how I feel after today.

OMO is still not done, but we think we have it figured out, there was a bad coil on one of the hydraulic valves, so after a bit of parts chasing I had one overnighted, so should have the part tomorrow. Then it will either work or we need more parts.

Hi Strouty!

Been quite a while since I visited here.

I see you are still moving stuff to and fro.

As for me, I'm blockaded by stuff.

Enough things came home, that everything is just blocked.

And I'm too busy with school to deal with it. I'm taking 22 credit hours this semester.

Came over here to see how the blue cabinets stacked up, and how the inside of the shop turned out. Gonna go do that now.

Today was productive, but the bad news is that yesterday one of the hydraulic cylinders was pinched against the turret of the knuckle boom, it was my favorite person running the controls while I was trying to get him to stop. It put a nasty looking arch in the entire cylinder, well today with the new coil, I got the crane operational and the arch is permanent. I can't tell yet how much if any damage has actually been done, but it did seem to make the ram extend and retract awkwardly. There was also some extra noise while extending and retracting the boom, but until things get greased up I can't confirm it was from the hydraulic cylinder or just the boom itself. I am really not happy about it, also willing to bet the ram is a $$$$$$ replacement since it is a double stage cylinder. Hopefully things work out, nothing I can do now, typical reaction from guy is shoulder shrug and don't care attitude.

Here are a few pictures of the boom hydraulically extended, there is still a 7' manual extension as well.

There's Strouty showing off his boom all extended out with 7' to spare no less.

Well you got it working which is pretty dam cool!

So now that I see that profile of the firetruck, it is pretty ugly in the front.

Hopefully the cylinder fix won't be expensive. Why wasn't he listening to you?

Forgive me if I missed it, but why are you leaving what I assume is valve & pumping equipment on the chassis (located just behind the cab). That's a huge chunk of valuable "real estate". I know you have a plan, what is it?

What he said.

The Freightliner is the next project, fire truck is more long term, I wanted to get the knuckle boom on and over to my shop, getting to see it function was a bonus. Next step is to remove it from the fire truck. It won’t fit in the shop installed. I am pretty sure I can remove it with the original knuckle boom, have to check the load chart.

The pump is tied into the drivetrain, so has to wait to be removed until a new drivetrain can be worked out. The current location of the boom is temporary.

That's got to be a bad *** pump if it's not handled by a traditional pto! As far back as it is I'd figure it was well behind any transmission. From a curious mechanical standpoint, a pic of all that would be cool. Never really checked out a firetruck from the underside.

I understand you're anxiousness completely. It's going to be a neat truck for sure. I'm going to miss the auction this year, got talked into working the Fryburg fair this year.:headscrat One of these day's we'll meet up.

The pump is something like 2500 gallons per minute. It can take full advantage of the engine power, even using the transmission in multiple gears.
