Decided to spend the afternoon and evening in the office, this way I should be able to spend almost all of tomorrow at the shop. I think the rain will hold off until at least afternoon, so I might be able to get a few things done that I wanted to last week, but weather and temps held me back. See everyone tomorrow.

The employee has moved out of the house, no all I need is my stepmother to drop the BS and let Dad and I work through the details so the lawyers can sign off on the Hill. I will say there is still a ton of **** in the shop space, probably take a week to get it all out and delivered to where Dad will want it. :(

Huzzah on the move out!

Good luck on the stopping of BS and working on the details.

I look at this just like the house behind the SG, once I got it cleaned out, I was so excited about everything, that was over a year ago. :( My hopes are a bit better on this deal, but there is still a lot of hurdles to jump.

Yesterday was good, I spent a bit of time trying to reconfigure the office to fit a better work triangle. I think I have things figured out, just need to remove some of the old cabinets, then get the new butcher block tops made. I found a local guy that can make them exactly as I want for a by the square foot price, should be fairly comparable price wise to the big box stores after you figure in the wasted material and labor to cut things. Regardless of price, it will be a higher quality material.

I am outside trying to get the broken jack handle apart on the gooseneck trailer, it is being stubborn and I am digging out the torch so I can heat things up. I want to try and pull out OMO and Perk, Probably also get the FL106 out (it needs to get torn down sooner rather than later and it fits in the shop! :) ), I may bring perk to the Hill so I can do some work, would be nice to actually have it useful by spring. ;)

Not on my end, employee had said he would be out by today, now I have to deal with family.

I started OMO up and couldn’t get out of snow bank, so I pulled it out with the Mitsu, then I drove it around front, but now the traction control is locking up at least one rear wheel the second I engage drive or reverse, almost could get out of the drive way, had to power over the rear brake. I need to figure out how to deactivate it or else I have to put it in neutral and pull or push it around, not good. :(

I didn't quite beat the rain, but I got some stuff done, well, after thinking about it, I don't think I got anything done. In fact I don't think I ever actually get anything done, I made three more projects for myself, maybe more.

Now I need to fix the trailer jack, swap the doors on OMO (after welding things up and getting the mirror on the front), add air to the gooseneck trailer tires, figure out the traction control on OMO. Seems like there is more, oh yeah, the starter button on Clark is acting up and that needs to be replaced as well.

The good thing is that the front and rear doors seem identical, should be a relatively painless swap.

Once the trailer Jack is back together I need to disconnect it, then I think Perk is headed to the Hill, I do need to manipulate the boom so it is not over height before I go, hopefully that will happen tomorrow night.

I am picking up tools and stuff, found I have a leaking brake line on the burb inside the shop, going to work on replacing that soon, then need to tackle the 4x4 actuator, or my custom full time engagement of it. Ordered some xmas gifts for my Brother, Father, and GJ Secret Santa victim. After spending half an hour on tarping OMO, since both driver side doors were now in the shop, apparently I forgot to close the passenger side front door. Lucky for me the rain has been coming down the other way and it didn't get too wet, still felt pretty dumb.

Got the shop cleaned up a bit more, still haven't touched the suburban yet, did investigate the brake line, looks pretty easy to swap it out, probably take longer to bleed the system than anything. Toying with the idea of trying one of those motive pressure bleeders, seems like it would be a decent thing to have. I am about to head out, going to do a couple errands on the way home, then I have to decide on ordering a vice designed for round stock for the mill, it will basically hold up to 3.5" diameter in either a horizontal or vertical orientation so it doesn't spin or shift like my current setup. Almost broke a drill bit today trying to get the hole in the pipe for the trailer jack.

Personally I wouldnt move a single thing to the hill until everything is ironed out. Your stepmom may see it as a power move and then create in her head this huge fear of what you would do after your dad passes and turn things into a huge shitshow. I have witnessed something similar. Dont show too much eagerness and it will all quietly slide into place.

I don’t plan on moving up there, but Dad says that if I pay for the heat, I can use the shop, like renting the space, besides she wouldn’t know my truck from his truck anyways. I should know more today, the meeting with the lawyers was yesterday.

Looks like today is going to be similar to yesterday with rain rolling in later in the afternoon. Need to get the trailer jack fixed and the tires aired back up on the gooseneck. After that I can disconnect the trailer from Perk and reconfigure the knuckle boom so I am ready to transport Perk to the Hill, then I am going to try and get the doors swapped on OMO so I don’t have to worry about water getting inside anymore or deal with the tarp. Lastly, I will shift trucks so that the FL106 is ready to go once I am ready to start tearing it apart.

I ordered my round stock vise last night, also think I got 90% of my Christmas shopping done, that is a good thing. ;) Also went to the Hill with the GF so she could see the house for the first time in 15 plus years, we were figuring out what needs to be done, seems like we are on the same page for once. Then we checked out the office and came up with what seems like the best layout for the desks, should make for an efficient space, I am very excited about that.

Info from the meeting with the lawyers is good and bad. Unfortunately they think that due to the properties and what my Dad and his wife want to accomplish, a trust is not in the best interest. I almost agree, problem is that will make the company's future a bit more questionable. In the end, I think it will be liquidated and dispersed, this will make things easier for everyone in reality, it just doesn't sit well with me, but I am only one cog in the mechanism. Also found out my stepmother thinks I am being paid too much and that she and my Dad did all the hard work and I am just sitting back collecting my paycheck, that pissed me off. Dad thinks that I should take less pay and work a "deal" for the house and shops of the Hill, not sure how I feel about this as it seems like any under the table deal would not work to my advantage long term. Lots of thinking needs to be done, we are moving in the right direction though.

Also Dad talked to me about his CDL, looks like he is finally realizing that he will not be driving the big trucks anymore, should be helpful for my stress levels......

I am heading outside to start working on the trailer jack.

Waiting for paint to dry, finding some bolts for the trailer jack, should have it up and running soon. I am going to try and shuffle OMO so I can use the knuckle boom to hold the doors up while I bolt them on. It will be funny, need to use the excavator to run the knuckle boom, so it will look like a cluster, but I want to see how the winch works and this is a light enough load that I am not concerned about using the boom, it is not permanently attached and torqued down, still need to add some spacers between the frame rails.

I predict you will figure out the Hill and then at the same time the house by your current garage will fall into place and you'll be stuck figuring out what to do!

I hope that doesn’t happen, but it is definitely a possibility.

OMO had some serious condensation issues, the roof was covered with snow, the doors were off, there are some leaks in the roof, but the biggest issue was the temperature swing from 20s to 50s with rain.

I've been thinking lately that liquidation and you starting again is probably the way this is going to go. I know it will be painful. Sorry for all your troubles.

It's like watching a rerun that happened to me.

During liquidation... I purchased just about everything I wanted from the estate... uhh... that wasn't stolen by the stepson of the stepgrandma that was the source of the problem. Big equipment vanished... miscellaneous tools survived. Property sold and I was compensated.

For the next five years it will be business as usual, accountant is switch us from a C Corp to an S Corp for tax purposes, unless Dad kicks the bucket, the company has to hang on for that amount of time or the tax burden is almost 50% on any liquidation. I don’t claim to understand it all, but I do understand how Dad has done things and they were always creative as far as taxes go.

I brought both OMO and Perk to the Hill, OMO is a tight (not kidding) squeeze to get in the shop. I tried to get Perk into the bay with the lift, no go, not enough room for the mirrors to get between the posts.

Wow step mom thinks you get paid to much. Sounds like you need to get on the work-to-compensation ratio package as hired guy.
Instead of the uncertainty and dealing with stepmom, could you start your own business?

LOL, I run my own business too, technically I am a subcontractor, not an employee, Dad only made me VP so I could sign leases and amendments for the towers, of course she had to be "Executive VP" so she is still above me. I do not have signing privileges for the bank account, I did that intentionally and will probably keep it that way for the forceable future. Dad wants me to be his lackey like the other employee, but I refuse, he gets mad that I don't work regular hours, but I tell him, it is all about getting the stuff done. Yesterday the lawyer told them that if I hadn't handled the big family tower project, it would have cost about a million dollars to do what I did for about $100k. Lawyer also said he wasn't even sure that they would have been able to get it through the town and that what I did was so outside the box most lawyers would have never gone there. That made me feel pretty good.

But the question is, what did dad and the stepmom think/say about the outside approvals? if nothing good, then you have your answer. If you saved them 900K, and they still don't love you, then there's nothing you can do to make them feel better about it. That would be about all it would take for me to hit the road. People who don't value my contributions can pound sand.

In a nutshell... people don't know how good they got it... till they don't got it. IT being YOU.

Sometimes tho… there is serious denial and you will never get credit.

Also... if you chose not to help them save 900K... you are immediately blamed, even if you had no idea about the project.

Life is interesting when you see yours thru other peoples brains and eyes.
