So far I am liking this winter. All the snows going down to your end of the state.

I am not liking it so far :(

You get to choose your utilities company? Congrats on the selector hack.

The electricity supplier only, they were supposed to be competitive, but they have been screwing us for a while.

that burb looks pretty damn nice for a 20 year old New England truck. I miss everything about NE except for the rusty cars.

Yup, rust is one of the worst things.

It is not doing much down here and I am off to Vt in a week.
Since it is cold I know snow making is underway but natural snow covers all the areas the sno guns miss.

I am trying to weld an aluminum boat in the water wanna talk about TIG welding in adverse conditions.

The last couple days have been non shop days, I spent half the day in the office on Thursday, then went with my Brother to look at a truck (for him) in New Hampshire. Didn't end up buying it, seller had taking pictures to omit all the defects, then over the phone made it sound much better than it turned out to be. It was still a good afternoon and evening, we ended up doing some Christmas shopping and had a good dinner. Friday I had an appointment with the Chiropractor, then had lunch with the GF before watching the new Star Wars movie, not bad, not great, seems like a remake of pieces and parts of all the previous movies. Today I am in the office for a bit, need to get a few emails out and try and dismantle the old cabinets, hopefully they will come out and still be salvageable, our accountant said she would use them. I hope to get a bit of work done this afternoon or evening, I haven't touched OMO yet and that was why I put it in the garage a couple weeks ago. Want to remove all the extra lights and stuff from the roof, then temporarily seal things up so I won't have any leaks.

That must be awful, the aluminum would cool almost instantly.

It worked great. The cold helped the interior, was finished with no access to back of weld. So I stitched it together with one inch welds. Let it cool by the time I took off my glove the weld was cool.
It was a challenge for out of position welding with a slight rocking of boat. I had to use 18 inch high platform mounted on steel milk crates. OSHA would have gone nuts, but there was no other way of getting in position.

So no fire, no smell in passenger compartment, a happy captain, and I might establish a relationship with boat producer for future work. As it was a brand new boat that was damaged by not securing radar array.

We've had a super mild winter so far. A freakish snow in November that melted later in the day but was enough to close schools... and a dusting that only caused a 2 hour delay. This weekend was unseasonably warm. Tonight I grilled out ribeye steaks in a T-shirt.

I am at TH trying to figure out what my next step is, these back to back holidays are going to mess with my plans, I need to order some parts from a place that isn’t open until Thursday and I am sure I won’t get the parts until the week after New Years. Thinking I may pull OMO outside early and try and get something done on Perk instead, OMO has too many variables right this minute and I don’t want to start cutting frame and end up having things be too short. Perk is a pre determined length and needs the PTO flange and a new hydraulic pump installed, then I need to shuffle the crane away from the cab about 6” so it can be stored away properly, then it is just a matter of mounting the hydraulic tank and plumbing things up. It may still smoke, but it would be usable for now, then once I get the 50 series Detroit figured out, I can start the transplant and rear end swap. From there I just need to know if I am doing the automatic trans or leaving the standard. I really want to do an automatic, but I think it is going to cost me close to $5k to do it and I am not sure I want to spend that much right now. I just wish OMO had been a POS and was terrible to drive, then I could just use the drivetrain for Perk like I had originally planned, it would make things much simpler for sure, dealing with one truck instead of two. :(

I wish I wasn’t the one that had to make them either. I forgot about the knuckle boom dilemma too, I still haven’t figured out what boom is going where either. Pretty sure I need to just forget about the red one and give it back to my Dad, too many issues with it that I don’t want to get tangled into. The one that is on Perk should be rugged enough for now and later on if I find a good deal, I can upgrade for sure. Just stinks to have gone through all that for nothing more than an edumacation.

I did get to do a bit of investigating on the Bridgeport CNC computer, there is a soldered on battery, not easy to get to, so will need to remove the entire board. I will do some testing first to make sure there is power where it should be, don't want to have some sort of coincidence make me rip things apart for nothing, but I suspect that the battery is part of the issue due to the error message I got and the age of it.

It is really interesting seeing how the different style Freightliner trucks do the wiring. The FL60, 70, and 106 that I own have external firewall style connectors. The FLD 112 (Perk) and the FLD 120 (Dad's Truck) have a hole int he cab that wires go through and then they have a large area for inside the cab where things get connected. I have to figure out the wiring to take the diesel engine from an FL106 and put it into an FLD 112 while keeping everything working. The best part is that the wiring is all the same color, not meaning that they correspond to another color, but they are literally all the same color wires with silk screened numbers along the sides. :(

I need to go to the freightliner dealership and see what I can find for wiring diagrams, I have been searching on ebay and there are a few different manuals available, but they are close to $500 each. I am willing to be that I only need a page or two of schematics to make things work. Regardless it is going to be a lot of tracing and labeling for certain.

I already ruined the first Christmas get together, I don’t like dogs and my GFs brother brought the dog again. Then my back was killing me so I was grumpy. I don’t even want to attend anything tomorrow with my family, more dogs, more sore back. GF is now pissed, she thinks I am mad at her because of the same **** that happens every year. This is one reason I should just be alone for Christmas, thanksgiving went perfect, I worked all day at the SG and got things done. :(

One Christmas, my sister brought a large pan of homemade cinnamon rolls that she had baked. Went to back bedroom, set them down, took her coat off to put on the bed and promptly walked off without the rolls. Wife's dog will verify that my sister is a VERY GOOD cook … ate them all and licked the pan clean. LOL sis was ticked.

I love dogs, I would bring mine just about everywhere..... EXCEPT to other people's home. I don't understand people that bring their, dogs, donkeys, Falcons, etc to other people's homes, especially when they know it's an issue. Oh they are good, they behave won't be in the way etc... Not the point, dog isn't welcome leave fido home. Not your home.

Merry Christmas!

I missed the FL post. And some people are like that, usually trained by their past. Again, good luck (guilty as charged).

Second round of Christmas was better, much quicker. Had some time to order a few of the manuals for things that I am working on, have to order a couple more books tomorrow, I placed a couple offers on things and hope that people will counter them reasonably, but what ever happens they are probably worth more than the asking price to me. Also ordered a bunch of CDs with PDF manuals on them, thousands of pages.

Tomorrow morning the old cabinets from the office are leaving, then I plan on going to the SG and shortening up the FL106 a bit. ;)

Cabinets are gone, arrived at the SG, loaded up some parts for Perk for TH, might get to do some work on that this weekend.

I am still on the fence with this two truck ordeal, part of me is saying I should sacrifice OMO for the greater good and just buy the hood for Perk and install the drivetrain. I wish OMO wasn't a great driving cool looking vehicle, it would make my decision so much easier. I am beyond frustrated with this issue, to move forward with the two vehicle option means that I have to bite the bullet and buy an automatic transmission, otherwise I will hate Perk, I know it. :(
