Get Perk operational as is, and use it.
Take your time getting OMO the way you want it. Then sell Perk to the next guy. Use the manual trans, and let the next guy pay for an automatic if he wants one.

You need a usable truck, Perk seems to be the fastest option. So, use it until OMO is ready. Sometime next year.

I am just moving forward with the FL106 disassembly for now, then I am going to work on some basics for Perk, but I do not want to sell Perk, I want Perk to be the truck I want, just may have to bite the bullet and do it. In the end it will be a very nice truck, especially since it has only 4000 miles on it.

Just getting started cutting the frame rails on the FL106, should be done at a reasonable time, will be nice to get home before tomorrow. We removed a bunch of brackets, hoses, and wiring, also pulled the doors off and seats out of the truck, all useful things. I still need to be able to setup the truck to run it for wiring purposes, we left everything major in tact, just need to figure out a makeshift fuel tank and it will be good to go.

Didn’t make it home before midnight, but got the cab set so I can grab it with the pallet jack and move it around, tomorrow I have a ton to do, but I am going to try and grab the rear air ride section, the fuel tank, and the hydraulic tank with some other pieces and parts to TH, then once perk is inside, I will have plenty to do. Also would be awesome to get all the old pieces out of the SG, especially the scrap stuff, the doors need to be stored inside so they don’t get messed up over the winter, I think I have a spot for them. Fun stuff, nice to get the truck chopped though, now all I have to do is use the parts.

Yup, busy, busy. Seems like I can’t take it easy, I am either on or off. Wish I could have been more off. Last night I was thinking about the automatic transmission and the fact that I really need a truck with one that has a similar engine, then I remembered one on Facebook Marketplace, it is still listed and fairly local. The issue is that the truck had a cab fire, so the TCM and harness for the trans is probably toast. It does have a Detroit engine, so the trans is essentially all ready to bolt up to my engine. I will have to think about this some more, they are asking quite a bit more than I would like to pay, but it has been listed for quite a while. I need to at least take a look at it.

Loading up a few things to take to TH, need to hit the bank on the way, not sure if I am going to get anything done other than unloading the maroon burb, then maybe taking some measurements for the butcher block counter tops in the office at TH. The SG wreaked of stale, burnt grease from cutting up the frame, awesome smell, rivals the smell of HF in the morning.

I did dig out the trailer, two trucks, setup the old Ford knuckle boom, so I will be ready tomorrow to load up all the big stuff that needs to go to TH, then all I have to do is put away all the pieces and parts from the FL106 project, should be relatively easy in comparison to some of my other projects.

Well, I slept, but it doesn't feel like I got any rest, it is always bad when you wake up and your back feels worse than when you went to bed.

I should be able to get what I need done regardless, it needs to be done before Sunday night, we are getting more snow and I want everything to be at TH and put away before I get covered again.

Just got done with lunch, had to go to TH to get a bunch of batteries, now I am off to the SG, should be ready to jump into things quickly as it is beautiful outside and I left things out and ready to go.

Moving the cab was a bit tricky, once I understood the pivots it was fairly easy, you had to either go straight or crab it sideways, the pallet jack was actually not as helpful as I hoped due to the proximity of the front tires of the truck. It is out of the way, yet still has full access for working on the engine. The plan is to end up with Clark in the bay before the snow, then I can start tearing the main ram out and get it repaired, also going to finish electrical system and add windshield and door to the cab. I think there will still be plenty of room to work on the FL106 and the excavator blade while Clark is inside, especially once the forks are removed.

Almost out of daylight, trailer is 90% loaded, still need to load the burb, then I will strap up the trailer and take it to TH, then OMO has to go outside so I can unload things, then need to get Perk inside, next week should be a pretty good week as far as making some headway on projects, everything is essentially setup to be worked on, so I will have five projects going at once, with five more waiting to be done. This should keep me going, usually I am waiting on parts it funds for one project, but it is bottleknecking everything up and nothing gets done, all these projects have the appropriate space needed, so should be fairly good flow.

Clark is inside, still need to do a bit of shuffling, but I wanted him inside so I could see what I would be up against, once the forks are off, it won’t be nearly as bad.

I wish I had a cement pad outside a the SG, the Hill has a couple, but it needs more outdoor lights, can hardly see anything around the barn. I just cleaned off a bunch of stickers from my new used tool box, previous owner was a Subaru tech and there were lots of stickers on the drawers. I had to also swap the to the other side, they had it on the fixed caster end and you couldn’t really move it around easily. Now that those things are done, I am assessing the storage options in the new space, really need to remove a bunch of things from the shop, but I don’t have a good plan on where it is going yet. I am thinking I can make a few trips to my Dad’s shop to drop off some of the most used chemicals, a lot of them are stupid cleaners and things my Dad has acquired over the years and never really used.

Strouty I would like to throw my two ¢'s in on your two truck dilemma [I know there are more but I am talking OMO and Perk] I feel that although it has a certain cool factor OMO, with her licensing/load limit issues make that truck useless in the snow states and Canada Your truck stripped down with no gear isn't capable of a six thousand pound payload I can tow that with my 01 Sonoma and get about 15 MPG while towing that around and repairs, licencing, maneuverability are order of magnitudes cheaper/better than your commercial trucks (even for personal, no difference here). Bev or Perk are both way better choices for your needs especially since you don not plan to use these as "Revenue Generating" that alone disqualifies OMO. Oh and we need to talk about this Dog Thing! Cats, really, while I read your Blog in bursts I feel so many parallels to you, I am having a hard time with the no love for dogs thing! Find a good one and there is no cat [or person, from my life anyways] that can even come close. Congrats on the stellar progress, I've been missing updates on this thread and from Late Sept/Early Oct. and I'm behind 70 Pages! Thanx for the Read and a Happiest of New Year to you and yours! As for OMO, I am going to go tandem rears with lockers and interaxle diff lock, should eliminate the need for all wheel drive and will make payload a non issue.

Yup, going to just do it, too many issues if I don't. I really wanted to make it a 6x6, but the way the steps work, you would need a ladder to get into the truck and I don't want that at all. I am also convinced that I will be changing Perk from a manual to an automatic, too much effort is going to go into the engine swap not to do it. The big question is do I do things in stages so I can use the truck or do I just go all in, I think I know what I should do, we will see what I really do. The only thing that could make OMO usable as a single axle would be to dump the knuckle boom and go with a hook lift, not quite as versatile, but would be much easier to load than a regular flat bed.

The digital manuals came in yesterday, they are perfect, the seller must get them from the factory some how, or they spent a ton of time editing and cleaning each page after scanning. I now have about 8000 pages of info that is searchable, this info will be so useful for this project and future ones as well. Very happy and will be ordering several more from the seller.

I also got a two book set for the Bridgeport and they detail procedures to check for the exact issue I am having, I will definitely check that out, could be something dumb or relatively cheap.

I may try filling the water tanks again at the house, if I do it correctly the water should last the rest of the winter due to my limited use of it.

Also going to haul a few things out of the Hill shop and bring them down to the Quonset hut. I figure I just need to do a little at a time and before too long it will all be moved. Fingers crossed that we can have a deal in place by this spring or early summer, that would allow me to be living at the house by next Christmas, I think it could be sooner, but it all depends on how long it takes for the agreement to be settled.

I talked to the seller of a truck I was looking at for parts, figured I would have to buy the entire truck and then part it out, they already sold the engine, so I can buy just the transmission! this will be the best option for certain, even has a PTO already installed, saves me money and effort. Only issue is harness and computer are probably toast, but I can buy those.

I am working on filling the tanks with water again, this time I turned off the valves on the two bigger tanks and I will pull the fill tube before I go back down to the well to open up the line for drain back. This should keep all tanks full and prevent me from siphoning out half of what I put in.

I am also filling 5 gallon cans with diesel fuel from the FL106 tank and putting it in the house tank for the furnace. Slow going, until I forgot about one can I left filling and had to run to keep it from over flowing, I have not moved that fast in quite a while.

Got the water filled, now I am blowing out the water line with the compressor, this is just an extra step that the employee used to do, not sure it is really needed, we never had an issue before after letting the water free flow down the hill when done filling the tanks, but the compressor is already there and easy enough to use, so why not. Plus it gives the compressor some run time, need to make sure it is working well for when I need to do some sandblasting or something else.

I hope we do, have a supply of food. Couple of pounds of Nantucket Bay Scallops and a bunch of other seafood. The bar is open downstairs till 1am depends on activity.
My truck is parked in the garage near a lighted spot where I will set up my tuning & waxing bench.

The family is home sick I am slope side at Jackson Gore well prepared with the needed tools.
