Speaking of trucks, Perk’s lettering is removed. I still have to do some buffing, but the nasty part is done.

No offense... but this post was a major letdown... ;)

I clicked on the post because it was one of the longer ones in the Garage Gallery and had some time to kill. I recognized your avatar and remember you replying to a couple of my questions in the past... one about the blue Trusty-Cook hammers and the blue stain on the butcher block bench top.

I looked and looked but had to wait until post 4848 until I saw any of your hammers out in the wild! I was beginning to give up hope! LOL

And I don't think I ever saw a resolution to the blue bench top... :(

One of the regulars commented you're like a puzzle without a picture (or something like that) but you're more like an Etch-a-sketch.

I think you'd be so much less stressed out if you bought new trucks built to your specs so you could focus on work and projects you really need to do. You may even be money ahead considering the amount of time (and stress) you have put into taking cheap trucks and trying to make them into something usable. I don't want to sound like a **** but it's just a thought that kept coming back to me over and over throughout this thread.

And I'm praying for you and especially your Dad. I'm hoping now that the employee is gone maybe things will become better when dealing with your Dad. That's my hope for you.

*and seriously, stop buying ***** :p

No offense taken 35, I think there have been much harsher comments from others... ;)

I agree that buying what I want would be nice, but in all honesty, every truck I build I learn more about what I want and don't want. If I had $500k I could probably have the perfect truck built, but it would pain me to spend that kind of money all at once.

The blue top is still waiting to be installed at the house, it took forever to actually "dry", but it seems like it might not bleed everywhere now.

I think the main issue I have is that you honestly can't buy exactly what I want, especially when I don't really know what I want until after I build it the wrong way.

So, after hijacking this thread with a PSA, back to Strouty's Truck World.

My response was in comment to Strouty mentioning an area of people that were not aware of what is going on. Nothing got hijacked except for a post about hijacking. Get over it

Holy ****, that door looks great. I thought it was going to be a whole refinish job. One less project... nice.

PP, xtremek was the first one to bring up CV-19 as it impacted him directly in a meeting... he was poking fun at himself.

My hijack comment was only about the poop, not about C-19. ;)

No worries, everybody poops.

Went to the SG for a few minutes, literally, got some supplies and headed home. The last two days have felt like a week, tomorrow will be interesting, Dad left in a huff today because my Cousin and I we in agreement we needed to fix something on the sawmill and he thought it was fine. We got it figured out and things seem to work much better, still have a bunch of stuff to do, but we made a couple passes on one log.

We are leveling things up and one end had been damaged by someone pushing leftover slabs with the mini excavator, only way to fix it for now was to shim things.

I did accomplish something today, got the butcher block table setup, not to my perfectionist standards, but to good enough for now.

Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn’t.

We were just about to saw a log, then a adjustment shaft broke, so the last hour has been making a new one. Not sure why it broke?

It took almost 30 years for it to get that way.

Moved things around, cut a couple trees, moved a few more things, got a few things figured out, too dark for any good pictures, but I got a before shot.

The saw mill actually cut 3 of the 200 pieces of hemlock we need, saved us $45 after three days of work, makes sense.

So my question is that now that the sawmill is running decent, how long do you think it'll take you to cut up all of the logs?

Part of that answer depends on the support equipment, the track crane was running lousy again, so I have it inside, need to pull all the fuel lines and see if there is more **** in them. Last round of messing with it eliminated the tank and main lines, so I know that the existing 5 gallon bucket (fuel tank) and new 3/8" fuel lies are not the issue.

I got the log loader working pretty well, it is a bit awkward for the controls, but I will get used to it. The engine is starting to run much better now, actually got to the point where having the choke partially on actually made it run worse, the other day you couldn't keep it going without partial choke. I freed up the PTO cable and the E-brake cable this morning, also just ordered some new door hinges, next step is to fix the seat on the truck and the one on the loader. I am just glad it works, it will make things a bit easier for certain, still have to figure out the brakes, not sure why they don't work.

As for how long it will take to saw things, probably a couple weeks, if everything was perfect maybe a week.

Here are a few updated pictures.

That sawmill and the lumbertruck are awesome! Those would be super nice to have!
Once the lumber dries are you guys going to sell the lumber you make out of those trees, or use the lumber yourselves?

I've always wanted one of those Mobile Dimensions sawmills. Be careful with any parts of it that you can not make. I believe that they are just about or out of business, I also understand that he VW motor is not the same as any old "beetle's" motor, something about an extra main bearing or similar internal difference. I looked at one locally but they were crazy with the price. $18k iirc!

Everything was going fine, then this happened.

cf1652a27b15c6b00abb37cefeb8f5ab.jpg

:(

We took a trip to the SG to get some supplies, it was raining, so I took Bev, she is terrible in the snow, so we had to go to my house and get my GF’s car so we could safely get to the Hill. Good thing too, there were stuck cars everywhere, this was supposed to be rain, no one knew anything about it, roads haven’t been pretreated and most are not plowed. Treacherous combo when idiots are out and about.

Man I'd love to have a sawmill.

It is great until you realize that you can only get a few pieces the dimension you want out of a log, then you start cutting random sizes, because you don't want to waste the log, then you store the wood, then the wood rots, then you get new logs and start the whole process over again... :headscrat

The reason to cut these particular hemlock logs, is to make decking for the dock project, you will see more pictures of that in the coming months, it is not for the faint of heart, the dock is over 200' long, 8' wide, and made out of tower sections and I-Beams, did I mention it will have a crane at the end of it? ;)

You remind me of myself and Mr. Bigwelds (Robots 2005). "See a need, fill a need.".

Except "needs" are everywhere! :willy_nil

Was really hoping you would leave just the boat decal on the truck.

Um, No. :eyecrazy:

Its looking good, keep up the work!

That is a wierd sawmill.

Jackstand is correct, originally Dad wanted to buy a wood mizer bandsaw, but the they tend to wander a bit. He opted for a circular saw blade that has a larger kerf, but stays straight. Once you make your face cuts, you can actually cut a couple boards at one, there are two smaller horizontal blades and one large one, when you are cutting larger timbers, you only use one medium sized horizontal blade and the big vertical one, it will cut something like a 10" by 12" 30' long in one pass.

That "dock project" sounds really awesome. That is going to be gigantic, and it will have a crane on it??? We are definitely going to need a lot of pictures for this job!

It is a bit more than half done, I was essentially not allowed to help since it was Dad and the Employee, now he is gone, so I am back in. I will post lots of pictures for sure.
