Today was a bit ironic, I decided to dig out the Boston E-One fire truck and bring it to the Hill, after cleaning the mud up, then putting the rest of the lug nuts on the wheels, we took it for a test ride. The front caliper was hung up and by the time I got back to the SG it had caught the grease on fire, so my fire truck was on fire and I didn’t have a fire extinguisher on board. Got back and grabbed the extinguisher from inside the doorway, put the fire out, by then the caliper had freed itself up and we headed out again. Made it to the Hill without any further issues, thankfully.

Hope everybody has as happy an Easter as you can under current circumstances.

Sorry but I have to laugh. And laugh heartily at this. Glad it all came out OK.

Yesterday was pajama party day, nice to take a break.

Today is more rain and lots of wind.

Got yelled at first thing this morning by Dad, he was mad that I had directed my cousin to come in at 10. Funny part was Dad made it very clear, he didn’t want to babysit, so I had told him I would keep everything moving, except now he wants to do all the directing, go figure.

I look at it as the first week without the PITA Employee, I am sure it will take us a few months to get things all figured out, the C19 isn’t making things any easier either.

Next thing will be to tear down the original Cascadia, I think the second one will be going directly to the Hill.

The blade turned out pretty good for an old bent up, worn out thing.

Really don’t have an answer to that yet, I would like to try and make a few bucks off it or at least try. The cab is worth something, the DPF system is worth something, the front axle is worth something, and I need the air ride for Perk. I figure I can cut it up and make it easier to handle, who knows, could be a pipe dream, but I would like to try it.

Today I will be working at the Hill, trying to get things cleaned up in the shop and acting as a support team fr the saw mill.

I started removing the apron in front of the shop at the Hill, it has raised up and really pushes water under the door. I want to cut things back so I can have the actual door recessed below the actual floor a little bit when it is closed. At one point they widened the doorway and never cleared out the original concrete.

This doorway has a nice design, I don’t know if I have enough door to really drop it down, but I will at least get things better than what I started with.

Could come in handy sometime
Ya never know

Glad it wasn’t serious damage

I know what is supposed to be in there, but I was transporting a junk from in place to another, rules are out the window when using a dealer plate. ;)

I am thinking fire extinguisher will end up on my road trip list next time.

The other door is that way and never had an issue, I would imagine if the shop wasn’t heated it may do that, only time will tell.

Still have to do some figuring, but I want to leave it so I can at least get a truck in. Might be a bit tougher with the full lip of the concrete, I can always add some more material.

I needed to dig out the 5 ton dump truck anyways, figured why not do something productive. ;)

I did try and back Perk into the shop, not an issue at all, just a bit of an extra push to get over the lip of the floor. I am sure when it rains, there will be some muck there, maybe I can get some of the reclaimed asphalt over the top, there are a few piles from the winter snow banks hanging around.

I am now headed to the SG to pick up a saw and bigger hammer drill, I want a nice way to chip the concrete after I score it.

It went over the banking, I am going to start filling in an area, have to clear the trees first.

I am working on getting a pallet jack or two, found some used ones, but they are not available until Thursday.

I am quite frustrated with the whole saw mill and logs, this is the second full day of sawing logs, two people and we might have a dozen usable pieces, plus now we have a huge quantity of slab wood to deal with, the road is blocked off too. I just want to get something accomplished, Dad is losing sight of all the issues he is going to create all because he won’t clean up the area around the mill first. All I wanted to do was get the rotted logs out and stack all his new logs (so they can rot without blocking the road), this would free up the space around the mill and make logistics far easier moving forward. He doesn’t like to listen to me and he thinks doing anything other than sawing logs is a waste of time. :(

The hemlock is supposed to be good for piers, IDK? They have already installed over a hundred feet of hemlock, so we are using it now.

I had a quick talk with Dad this morning, he doesn't think we should do anything but saw logs, no organization, no thinking things through, just saw logs and make more of a mess.

I also tried to get the log loader started today, no luck, it would sputter and that was it. I did some more research and found that it is a true gasoline only engine, not a multi fuel. It also has spark plugs, distributor, and wires, they are threaded on braided stainless, so we thought they were some sort of fuel distribution, go figure. Dad says we are going to convert the truck to a diesel, he says he already has the parts. I did some quick measuring and the diesel parts truck has a much longer nose, so I can already see the writing on the wall, it is a bit smeared with blood from my head smashing up against it.

At this point I am fearful that his projects are going to eclipse my things, the dock won't get done, and I will be to blame for everything. All of this over some effing logs my Brother couldn't haul off without telling my Dad about them, because he felt bad, I want hime to come over here and deal with the mess he created.

Forgive me for saying this but your dads logs seem like your truck obsession. Perhaps he wants this to be his last great project with his son and to leave it for his grandkids to enjoy. Then you can play legos with your trucks.

Except I have no real part in the logs, he is sawing them with my Cousin, all I did was help get equipment going and set them up with tools.

I think the only way to deal with your dad and his logs and other projects is to see if you can figure out a way to accept that things are never going to be the way that you would like them to be. Easier said then done for sure.

His way may be difficult, but it seems to me the only two choices are to continue to try to talk sense into him and continue the frustration.

Or to accept it for what it is and help out when you can and try to minimize the frustration, knowing that it may be a big waste of time or just a big pain in the ****.

Good luck, I hope you can come to some type of peace with this whole situation.

I think the tough part right now is that he is essentially in what is supposed to be "my space", it is reminding me that the Hill will always have this risk, so it is making me think a bit harder about my future intentions. This summer will either make things better or break them. I would say that it is good that I am getting a trial, kind of like when you buy a house in the summer only to find out that the school bus stop for the whole neighborhood is right in front of your house. I think all of this wasn't apparent due to the winter, now that it is getting nicer out and he wants to saw logs, I have to deal with Dad more and more.

I had to escape the Hill for a bit, went home and had lunch, then took a nap (I was really tired!), now that I am back, it appears they have done a decent amount of sawing, the dump truck is full of slab wood. Hopefully they can work through the mess soon and be done. Then I can start working on the other messes.

On a good and bad note, I had ordered a new wireless remote for the Perk and the knuckle boom, it was cheap, really cheap, almost thought it was a scam cheap. It arrived as described, with the addition of smelling like an ashtray, it is amazing that even the metal has the smell in it. Will have to set it out in the sun for a couple days and see if it helps. The unit is a "belly" box and it is a bit larger than anticipated, but then so is my belly, so I guess that makes it fair. I think it will be a great unit, especially if I add another circuit or two. I will post some pictures soon.

When not in the sun, try setting it in a larger ziplock bag with baking soda. Don't cover it with the powder, just set it in there. So every night it sits in there, hopefully getting de-smelled. Sure can't hurt anything.

cigarette smell is so icky.

I will try that for sure.

I just learned about soaking my baseball hats in borax water solution, made them smell like new.

A couple of suggestions.

1. Use the sewn wood to build a fence around your space.
2. Since your brother told your dad about the logs, if dad ask for help on the dock, tell him to call ____” (your brother’s name)
3. Place ad a on Craigslist for “Freshly cut wood at low prices, must pick up after my dad leaves for the day”

I like the last one best.

He called me an hour after he left to ask if he shut off the track crane. :(

Hopefully they can get most of the logs sawn this week, but I doubt it.

My Brother has apologized, he also acknowledged he should have just listened to me when I told him not to say anything about the logs. Actually, I would be fine with this entire mess if we just cleaned up the wreckage from the last round of logs.

Well, I am going to go against the grain here.
Dad has sawed a lot of logs over the years, you are not doing it, so stop micromanaging.
It's his Hill yet, so if he wants to make a mess for a few weeks, whatever, get over it.
Go back to SG and fix a suburban or something, you sure have enough of those broken lying around.

Who pissed in your Cheerios? ;)

I get what you are saying, the problem I have with it is that he asked me to help get things setup, then instead of dealing with it systematically, the sawmill project has vomited all over the hill.
