I would like to say that I got the blade on, but not a chance, need two people or someone that can contort better than me while supporting the heavy end of the ram as you try and get the pin started. Just not happening, two people would have made this an hour job, instead I have been killing myself for a few hours and still can’t get it done. I need to load up some more trash and get the fack out of here, frustrated is an understatement. :(

To end the day on a good note, the IRS sent a letter about Dad's company that could totally screw things up. It was really nice that they made sure the letter after the taxes were due (and we had filed them). Basically we changed how the accounting was done by going from a C corp to an S corp and we changed from a November 1st start of our tax year (don't ask) to a January 1st, now the IRS says we can't file a short year - Nov 1st 2019 to Dec 31st 2019 - (except we did) and now they say we have to keep the Nov 1st start date and it will actually start November 1st 2020. Totally changes the system and how we have things setup now that we are in 8 months since we elected to change things.

Bummer.

IRS is never easy. At least you filed in good faith.

I know it is bad, after I scanned the letter and sent it by email to the accountant, she called me on a Saturday night, that just doesn’t happen.

I used to freak out from the IRS notices until I got used to always filing late because other entities don't finish there taxes until due date and we can't file till they give us numbers.
They are never really much fun at times, thanks for accountants.

I am not freaked out about the letter, but about the ramifications, if it goes down the way the ITS says, Dad will have to wait an extra year before he can sell one of the towers, this will create problems with my stepmother too.

My cousin is an IRS agent. She has told me that every once in awhile, she gets to carry a tiny little full auto machine pistol in her purse. Just depends on who they have to "visit with" that day.:lol_hitti

Be afraid, be very afraid.

Going to buy another burb today, as long as it is as described, hopefully it will be. If this works out, it will make my decision on the white burb so much easier. Will report back with results and pictures later. ;)

If you keep going Strouty you’re going to have to get some of those parking lifts so you can double stack them in the yard.

I don’t think we have hit ten yet. ;)

It ended up being really good and bad all at once, in the end, I paid a fair price and now I have a black suburban that is 90% rust free. It was clear that I won’t have time to go south in search of a hard to find black barn door burb, this will allow me to get my **** in gear on the project that has been sidetracked and procrastinated on for the last 10 years. I drove it back, although it has some issues with the engine, it sputters like the intake gasket is leaking, so I am not planning on fixing anything mechanical, just stripping it down for the shell, will start with the interior, I want to keep it movable as long as possible, plus I will post the drivetrain and gram for sale (it is no use to me because it is a true half ton). Probably the best part of the deal is the tires, they are very good condition Michelin 265/70/R17 load range E, I was looking at buying some H2 hummer rims, but hadn’t done it yet since they are all 17” and I didn’t have any tires to fit. Well now I do!

The newest burb is from North Dakota, someone cut the front fender and bumper to clear larger tires, so both fenders and the bumper are junk, a deer took out both drivers side doors, and there is the start of rust on the rockers and rear bumper. Otherwise it is pretty solid and will be perfect for what I want to do. I am pretty sure I have all the parts to make it whole, so no searching for big ticket items, the dash will be the toughest part of the swap, but in the end it will be worth it.

Here are some pictures of it.

The wheels are actually finished nicely and someone will want them, I will probably get a chunk of my purchase price back selling some of the interior parts too.

Im confused. You bought a rusty burban with bad fenders, bumper, and doors that has motor problems because of a set of tires? Wouldnt Tire kingdom and a black paintjob on the white burban been much easier?

Ha. No, I was thinking that each one you buy has certain aspects that you like, whether it be configuration of the rear doors, or drivetrain, etc. if you are just buying to accumulate as many of that vintage as you can, that would explain it too. Just gettin’ burbs.

This latest one will become the shell for the maroon interior that I have been saving for a long time. My OGMC is black with the maroon interior and this body will allow me to make an exact replica. Ten plus years ago I got the urge to have another diesel burb, but they were all pretty rusty and I kept collecting, now I have a few of them, I would like to start collecting every diesel I can find, but space and budget would become an issue quickly.

Love what Autocorrect did there, might have to name one after that.

Lol that’s what I get for just hitting post without proof reading. Serves me right for catching your funny auto correct the other day.

That would be a good name though, I vote for that to be the name of the new black one.

To explain my “issues” when it comes to subrbans, (mostly the diesels), when I was 21, back in October of 1999, I bought a brand new GMC K2500 barn door diesel suburban, it was black with maroon leather, it had the SLT package, so it was loaded, also had 4.10 gears (posi rear of course). I used that truck for two and a half years, but I hurt my back pretty badly and had to sell it. :(

Maybe ten years later a good friend bought a black K1500 Chevrolet Suburban with gray interior, riding in it was very fun and reminded me of my old burb. He decided that he wanted it to be a GMC and have maroon interior, so he found another burb, swapped the entire interior and had a GMC grill painted to match. That made things worse for me as it was essentially my original burb.

I started looking for diesel burbs, found one in Connecticut, a total twin to my original, had 150k miles on it, bought that one, drove it for a while, but it lost oil pressure so I parked it while trying to figure out what I was going to do. It had the 4.10 gears, so we called it 410.

In the meantime, I found another black one in Queens, New York, it was black, had gray interior and a tailgate (NOOOOO!). It had 3.73 gears, so it was called.... 373. It needed head gaskets, but I still drove it for a while. During this timeframe, I became injured with an unexplained issue and almost everything in my life got upended. Both burbs were parked and I started making a plan to make one out of the two. Once the Doctors figured out what was going on, it took a while before I was really able to do anything again (except acquire projects). I started ripping and tearing the burbs apart, but the further in I got, the worse things were, the trucks were both rustier than anticipated in places that were going to be expensive to fix, my injuries were still slowing me down and stressing me out. Things got put on hold again. :(

Then my friend with the remake of my original burb asked if I wanted to buy his, I did that, drove it for a few years, it had 3.42 gears, so it was called 342. At his point I still had the other two burbs and was essentially planning on buying a rust free one to build my "dream" version. The same buddy happened upon a non diesel K1500 burb that was rust free, I bought that one, but the color really wasn't my thing and after much thought, I sold it.

Then I stumbled on the maroon burb, this one was in decent shape, a bit of rust, but not too shabby, 342 was essentially a yard plow at this point, plus the new maroon burb was also a 3.42 geared one, so that made my naming of the burbs all screwy. ;)

I then found the black yukon and bought that, it was a 1995 with a factory diesel and maroon interior, I truly only bought it for the parts, it was very rusty. That was a crazy event, halfway through the sale, the owner about died in a motorcycle accident and his mother stepped in to finish the transaction.

A little while later, my friend (yup same one), texted me a craigslist ad. It was my original suburban, the one I bought new, I bought it more for sentimental reasons, but I bought it. This one has been called the "OGMC" Original GMC.

Then I found the Virginia burb, it is truly just a carcass, but has no rust and literally has never been driven on the road, this was to be the frame for the "perfect" project burb.

Next was the white burb, bought it just because it was semi local and completely rust free, as we all know (do we really?) this one is still in limbo, but I am leaning towards rebuilding the 454 and trying to make a chunk of change on it.

Today was the latest acquisition, it is pretty much what I need to start on the project of creating my "rust free" OGMC, it might not be as clean as the white one, but it will be a much better start than any of the others were. I am also finding that it is tough to get a black burb from rust free places as they are generally hotter areas where black vehicles are not as common. So this is my suburban story so far, I suspect there will be more to it in the future. ;)

I need a few more colors to complete the set. ;)

I have had blue (light and dark), green, yellow, white, silver,
and red Suburbans. If I could find a black one I would take the white doors and hood off my white truck and swap them, then get a decal that said Scrap Patrol on it.

And Sir Urbana

027bb56dcae697db456ecb1ee3ce09bb.jpg

That first 'Burb pic looks like the tower is in pre-1980s communist eastern Europe. I imagine a few matching government housing apartment buildings are just off camera.

"Sir Urbana", to live up to that name, needs some gold tone bling... and gold spinner wheels.

I've owned 6 suburbans over the last 25 years, and I still have 2 2001 K2500 8.1's (with barn doors) in my driveway. One is now only for parts and comes in handy. Your story makes me feel much more normal. Thanks.
