I didn’t see one, the generator is still hooked up, so I may be able to run it until it stops. I figured the weed burner would probably be quicker. Maybe I could have a lobster bake. ;)

nah if its 5k leave it. propane is $2.36 a gallon and tanks are supposed to only be filled to 80% so it has if smack full at most 1k in propane and a used tank is worth maybe a grand id guess. I see new ones listed online for about 1,500.

figure out how full it is and burn it off or something.

Yep. Most we've ever paid for a tank that was down to 10% was about $650

Tonight before the Snap On guy arrived, I did get to tear into a bit more of the trailer, found a better way to remove the wood. Basically I use a circular saw to cut slits through decking then beat it with a sledgehammer sledgehammer that I found while moving the log pile, it was buried underneath everything.

Just went to pick up the ramp truck and my forklift, made it about 1/2 a mile, same problem. They didn’t road test it at all, frustrating now I am waiting for Dad to pick me up, I brought Perk up for an inspection sticker and they can’t do it now. :(

I see orchardists pulling propane tanks all the time with their orchard tractors with the tank just strapped to the trailer. They pull them down to the propane dealer and have them filled and then take them back and fill their frost equipment off the big tank. Rich

I don't know as I would be that brave, they probably have some understanding with the local supplier.

Just finished up with my afternoon, was going to work late on the F-550, but I am beat, tomorrow should be a bit more mellow day, going for a drive to see a fellow GJ member and have some lunch. Hopefully when I get back, I will have one or two new mirrors for the F-550. ;) Saturday will be more eventful, have some help, plan is very fluid at this point, just want to get a few things done, then we will see what makes sense afterwards.

So what is the procedure to get it emptied? I read from DOT that if the tank has more than “x” percentage of fuel it can be moved, but must be the only tank transported, must have placards, and needs a cradle to support it, not the regular legs. I will see if I can find the link, seemed very legitimate.
Propane companies can pump it out. Pump it into a bobtail. move the tank and put the gas back in.

He's already been there see post #8786

I had to replace a tank, changed company, new tank came in full, the guys just shrugged, said they move 'em full all the time.... 100 gallon tank. I think Strouty's problem is he owns the tank and companies don't see beyond the end of their nose when it comes to customer service or potentially getting a new customer..

I saw the post, doesn't really matter. If you want to do it legally, get someone to pump it down, move it and put propane back in it. He lives in Maine, someone just blew a building up and killed some firemen when a building exploded full of propane. Propane inspectors are all over the place, making propane distributers bring there installs up to code as a result of said building blowing up.
They may move them full all the time, its illegal. You can't even run a propane bob tail full, they can only be loaded to 85%.

My issue is that so far none of the propane companies are willing to do anything because it is a customer owned tank.

In other news, the loader has landed. Glad that chapter is over.

If you were up here I might be able to help you out on that. Most companies don't have enough help to do their own work . Did you offer to pay them? The longer this goes the less chance you will have. Once heating season hits it will be impossible. I'd try someone with like 1 truck.

Red letter day at Strouty's. Now all you need to do is get the dock in, and no more drama with Dad,................for at least 10 minutes. Is he happy with the loader?

He says he is happy with the loader. I figure tomorrow he will run into or over something with it. Yesterday he took out a brand new trailer tire with the blade on the excavator.

Also got Perk inspected and back to the Hill, check out the plate, eff DOT!

It was on one of my other Burbs, I figured it was more fitting on Perk, especially since DOT and I were in agreement that I am no longer “in commerce”. Truck is now titled in my personal name, registered in my name, no lettering, appropriately descriptive plate, and even the insurance policy carries my name along side the company name. It is going to be interstellar when I have to go into my first weigh station. ;)

This morning was nice and cool so I decide to do some more of the old office clean out, still pretty warm up here, but I have cool air flowing through. I have a couple more file cabinets to unload, then the cabinets need to get moved, the rest is paperwork, books, and office supplies. I will probably do a bit more tomorrow morning too.

I really want to get the mirrors on the F-550, then fix the seatbelt, after that I will mess with the brakes if my shoulder is doing ok, otherwise I may do some office work. My help had a last minute schedule conflict, so I am alone today. :(

I may go and get the chipper to use again, I have Buck, so I can do some trimming and deal with the branches as I go. Also probably continue to mess with the second log pile, I would like to get the entire top tier of the Hill ready for snow, then I can work my way down as I have time. I do need to shuffle a few trailers around, probably do some of that this weekend too. At this point, the more I get done, the closer I am to being ready for the white stuff.

Never mind, it was for a manual set, they still stock the other ones.

Previous post.....

I went to order another set of those mirrors for my Dad's ramp truck, now they are out of stock, but even funnier, they are a little cheaper and the list price has also dropped. Curious to see if they ever get them back in stock, I still think the price was wrong by about $400, but it was to my benefit, so I guess I don't care. At least I have them for my truck! ;)

The mirrors are definitely bigger and better visibility, they stick out further and are not adjustable in that way, but they fold in very nicely, so I can get them out of the way easy enough. They have an angle on the larger mirror that I wish wasn’t there, I know I will get used to it, but I just feel like it was a wasted opportunity for more mirror. They are very rugged and look nice too. Once I have a chance to plumb the heat, blinker, and power functions, they will be awesome.

Then this showed up, from the looks of the box I was expecting it to be destroyed, haven’t found any damage yet.

I am struggling now, I probably should just call it a day, everything hurts right now. I have plenty to do, but next week is pretty open schedule wise. I am shuffling a few things around right now, kind of have a plan that I think will really help with space in the shop. For now, I am not planning on getting the chipper, seems like I could do three times as much work if I had a second person. I should be able to get my cousin to help at some point next week.

I think I am still on target for the F-550 to be done, I am sure there will be some more parts that I need, but I think I can have the brakes and the new boom crutch buttoned up this week. Then I can work on the hydraulics, the tool boxes, and the rear step as I get time. Most important thing is to get the truck inspected, that ran out in March or April. :(

Those mirrors look pretty sweet. I have a f450 and was thinking that an upgrade would mean a set of "west coast" f750 type mirrors. I'm sure pretty expensive to get SS from Ford vs aftermarket adjustable cheap chrome one size fits all units.

Is that an El Camino at your Dads? And that's one killer foundation there.

Most of the aftermarket stuff is still (mostly) stainless, I have found some bolts won’t be. Mid 80s El Camino, he rebuilt it a few years ago. His shop has some serious concrete, the walls are about 20’ tall, all concrete and half into the hillside.

I hope you're feeling ok today. And yes, you always get at least 3 times more done when there's 2 people who know what they're doing.

I just woke up, so I got a bit more sleep than I had been, I am sure that will help a bit. I need to go water the plants at the tower site, then I have a bunch of cardboard to drop off at recycling, going to do a couple errands, then I will pick up the chipper on the way back.

Plan is to try and clean up the shop a bit more before I rip into the F-550, will update as I get going on that.

The propane tank is older than I thought, a lot older 1996. No fuel gauge, by judging by temperature of the sides, it is half full.

f71fd4514ef079f1559924a070ebade0.jpg

The generator is definitely newer, it has a nice enclosure that is designed to keep it quiet too.

Also looking at rebuilding this steel structure either at the Hill or at the SG, it is about 10’ inside the posts and it is about 30’ long. Very rugged setup, designed to stop damage to the building from ice falling off the tower.

699f9d819996588cd7ae8c6d076f3a71.jpg

The building is going to be removed as well, I haven’t figured out how yet, but I have the drawings and manufacturer info. I think it can be taken apart into panels at the seams.

aa9498947435641c495d665bab743d73.jpg

It has two AC units that I will be taking for my shops.

I installed a 3-ton bard wall mount on my shop this summer... Years of planning for it and finally got it done. I must say, it will cool my 1600 sq ft shop in about an hour. I was surprised at how well it works. The air flow throw off the supply duct was much further than I would have expected.

I did get a filter return grate from Amazon to relocate the filter from inside the unit to the return duct. It will make filter changes much easier....

I think these are both 3 ton units, but they may be smaller, didn’t see info on tag and haven’t searched model yet.

00c826e1237231c1775a2682be6360f9.jpg

I had to change course a bit, I had the burb full of cars board to recycle, but the place I was going to didn’t have any bins, so I ended up going closer to the SG and then stopped in to grab some tools and some steel that will be useful. In the next week or so, I need to make a serious trip over so I can get a bunch of things picked up, will need the F-550 and a trailer to get the stuff, won’t fit easily in the burb.

Going to get some food now, then do the rest of my errands, that way I can actually start my day, I guess I am getting an early start this afternoon. ;)

Looks like we finally got the go ahead to take the tower down, should be happening in the next couple weeks. I definitely need to order the drone now! ;)

Just got back to the Hill, chipper in tow, going to do a semi quick clean out of the steel rack and see if I can make some more room along the wall.

Plan is starting to shape up, some steel will have to end up outside, some is just plain scrap, other stuff might have to go vertical.

The bottom rack is going away, then the upper four are going to get cut shorter so they don’t protrude as far into the usual enough space. Should make a good steel rack while still allowing me to use that side of the shop fully.

I did some measurements and I can leave the upper shelf long as the Lista cabinets will fit under it. When I need full the steel, I have to move the cabinets, but a pallet jack will make that a relative easy task, I could also set these up on casters, might do that because it would be easiest to move them that way.

I may move the lower rack down to the Quonset hut, the sides of that place are really wasted due to the shape of it.

Only brought a couple pieces outside so far, but I have a vertical pile that I will have to find a home for. As bad as this sounds, I may have to cut some down to fit better. On top of all this, I am having a sneezing fit due to all the dust! :(
