I have a lot of decisions to make over the next few weeks, I want to be ready to go as the weather starts to improve. I have lots more things to do that burbs and Perks. ;)

Hard assessments with some projects leaving for sure. I really want to just start paring down the quantity of vehicles and trailers, that should help a bit. I also need to start being realistic about where my skills drop of and what my actual capabilities are, I have overstepped those bounds on more than a couple projects. I really would like to be able to do everything, just seems like I keep running into roadblocks over and over. It is like someone doesn’t want me to do the projects, maybe it is a sign? ;)

That's the right mindset. What are your limitations, in TIME, money, and talent? No new projects until one goes out. And trust me, I HATE that itch. New toy I can fix in a couple of days, until your BiL needs to be moved out tomorrow, or your daughter's car blows a coolant line behind the turbo, or the bolt breaks off........ I feel your pain.

I agree with xtreme. Pare it down and finish something. I know you're younger than me, but what really did it for me was hitting the age where i knew i was more than half done. Time is running out. Do you want to look back at a life of stuff you wanted to get done, or that you DID get done?

And nothing is ever perfect on this side of heaven. Just make it "good enough" to do the job.

All the trucks that I have are lighter duty front ends, the new knuckle boom truck even has a 14,000 pound rating. OMO is the only truck with a really heavy duty rating.

Made a bit of a mess of the yard, figured I would try and get OMO out and the Boston fire truck, OMO had been on a float charger for a couple days, the Boston FT started up well on its own. Unfortunately it stalled and wouldn’t restart, took me a bit, but I figured out what was going on, just not why it was happening. I got it moved, then OMO, but now I need to figure out what to do with them. The BFT needs to be torn apart, OMO needs to be partially disassembled, but I don’t think Perk can lift the knuckle boom off the back. I really need the Cascadia gone, then I have some of my parts freed up and I have the space to park OMO and the BFT easily, instead of them being jammed in. I would love to say things are going fine, but it is now getting dark and I may just have to move both trucks off to the side for now, then Sunday I can try and dismantle the Cascadia. I can tell I have too many moving parts right now, the feeling is quite stressful. :(

As most of you know, I am not always the sharpest tool in the shed.......

I am going to look at another suburban tomorrow morning.

It needs a transmission, it is a half ton, it is white, its a Chevy, probably has tan interior, all the things I hate......

But it is from Alaska and in my experience, those vehicles don't usually have much rust, so I am going to take a look at it. I have a spare transmission that I know works because I have driven the truck. If it isn't too bad rust wise I will most likely add it to the stable.......

Sorry.....

I have way to many of your traits as well Strouty I want and knew how to do them but time marches on and things change, for similar but not exact reasons as 86T, I am feeling this time crunch and the limitation of no money coming in and lots of time on my hands. I want to keep all of my projects, but I have rid myself of a few, too many just can't practically go, I need to live somewhere and a better house will mean I have to work [profitably I might add] until I die and my body isn't co-operating at any level.
Osh Kosh Uhmmm Hell Yeah! Ugly? Maybe, to some in the COOLEST way possible to me, Unique and HEAVY DUTY to the Second Power! If that is mostly in good running order, add the boom and box/bed of your choice, but purge immediately, after a parts scrounge, with a manageable surplus. Just my thoughts from a closer to Sixty than you are to forty point of view. 40 seemed like yesterday and 60 is like 13 months away. 86T's discussion of regret is a burden that only time travel can fix I know I'm living it! Harry
Sorry my first sentence is worded poorly, if I remember how to speak English later I will fix it. I worked on it a but I'm still not happy with it.

I beat you to buying one this year.

I have the same problem with old pickups. I have too many and went to look at one last week.

Sorry Strouty, I know your a burb guy, I'm trying to distract Uncle Willy he's been eye balling my GMC.
There used to be k2500s all around here for sale but this last year all heavier trucks 2500 and up are rare. I had to drive two hours to look at one and another hour past that one to look at number two. The best market around here is Atlanta.

Today is raining pretty good, scheduled to look at two burbs tomorrow, one is older than I would like, but it is supposed to be rust free.

I bought the burb from Alaska, pretty clean, not perfect by any means, needs a transmission, I only paid $650, so it wasn’t a bad deal. The guy with the second one is flaking so far, so not sure if I can even see that one today.

I am over at the tower site assessing what needs to be done to get paid, my cousin has a crew that can help, he is looking for work so he will do it cheap. Getting it done would be a huge relief too. Weather even looks like it is going to be decent for the next week or so. I guess I have to take advantage of things, otherwise it could be spring before I get it done.

That is the plan.

Been breaking up the concrete slab, the perimeter is like a frost wall, so I am having a hard time with that. Probably will need to dig things out, then come in from the side.

So my list of burbs is:

OGMC
Maroon burb
White burb bad 454
White burb
The new white burb
Snow plow
North Dakota burb
4.10 black burb
Virginia burb
Yukon

So I guess ten.

Technically there is another half burb too, I still have the rolling chassis from a previous burb.

Talk to me when you have a 1995 or newer K2500 diesel suburban for sale.....

You like the burbs with 6.5 liter diesels in them? My experience with 6.5s is pretty good if you do all upgrades suggested by the guys at Dieselplace.com. Bucket truck gets 10mpg but its a gutless wonder on the road. I probably don't drive it hard enough.

You must be figuring in usage time with that, I used to have a 3500HD crew cab with a 9' enclosed utility box (truck weighed about 14,500 all the time) and it would get 12. The burbs get between 15 and 19 generally, that is pretty reasonable in my eyes. As far as being gutless, they do what they are supposed to do and I haul some heavy loads. I also can't complain about repair costs compared to a newer more powerful diesel engine, I can replace my entire engine for what they charge to do the injectors in a duramax. ;)

I have a line on another burb, this one is from Florida.....

I have one 2012 2500 planning on a new one, my friend who owns a cheverolet dealership is waiting for the word to get me one. We are waiting delivery of a 30ft CC with twin 300hp which will get me to Maine. You just need to finish the dock so my wife can meet you.

I had a Doctors appointment this morning, then I was going to meet up with my cousin to take a walk at the tower site, well, the water at the Hill was messed up, the waste oil furnace in the shop was not functioning at all. I still did the site walk, now I am chasing parts to see about getting the waste oil furnace working again. At least the water was a relatively quick fix with no damage to the system.

Plan is to clean up the tower site on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. I have a bunch of stuff to do to be ready for that. Hopefully I can get the furnace working this afternoon.

Mine is 3500 hd also, 5.17 gears or something close to that. Truck idles all day when using bucket. If it was 454 it would get 4 mpg maybe? Rust is the only thing wrong with truck and I'm working on that right now, 2 new fenders and inner fenders. Not looking forward to changing drivers side with the brake controller and lots of bucket wiring on top of inner.
Teds Trucks and stuff on EBAY has complete military take outs, I bought one and its runs like brand new. No smoke at startup, doesn't burn a drop of oil, cost was 3 grand and like 300 to get it here. Some folks haven't liked there experience there but mine was excellent. I got used injectors from them had them popped, several were bad they sent me new ones, popped those and in they went.

You're figuring mileage while idling?

I look at the F550 as gallons per hour, it is hard when you have a truck that idles a lot to get an accurate MPG. On a regular trip that 3500HD should get closer to 13MPG maybe more. The F550 gets low 12s and averages 3.25 Gallons per hour.

The waste oil furnace has me beat, looks like it may be the pump, I went through and cleaned everything else, it pushes oil, but only at a dribble. :(

My buddy is headed over so we can tear into the 18 speed transmission, I think he won't be too happy, it is a balmy 46 degrees on the warm side of the shop.....
