I am at the SG, I turned the heat up before I got here (thank you NEST), still a bit cool, but a lot better than 38!

Just moving that bell housing has aggravated the shoulder a bit, need to move it two more times. :(

I really need to take some time soon to clean things up here and start figuring out what is going to the Hill. At least I won’t be lacking in the forklift department. ;)

I thought it was too, I am not a fan of the idea of a white transmission, but from the perspective of future repairs and maintenance, it probably makes sense.

I got some new media for the blast cabinet, old stuff was really dirty, I may try and sift it, but it was cheap ****, the stuff I am replacing it with is heavy duty garnet. The place I bought it from said it will hold up to 5 or 6 cleanings.

I am going to do a bit more prep to the bell housing before I actually blast it. Should be dealing with that tomorrow.

Not to derail the thread, but.........

Is that normal for NC?

FWIW, our last 3 snows were just dustings.
NOt usually, but the past two years have been very wet.

I was reading about painting them white to help with under cab visibility while performing future work on the transmission or in that area. I thought it was a neat idea.

Anything that helps visibility is good.

Looks like there may be another burb in the stable.

Way too many white ones lately. At least it is a GMC and a diesel.

Very nice

The garage told me I might need to start looking for a rear end for mine. Should be fun trying to find a 14 bold FF with 4.10 gears. All of them I am finding seem to be geared higher.

If only you were closer, I have four now, this one was a GT5 (4.10) RPO Code with G80 (limited slip) paid $1500, has a serious engine issue, but the rest seems decent enough. One bad rust spot, worst part is it was originally the same color as my current daily driver, Dark Toreador Metallic (read maroon) someone painted it white, the did a decent job though. It is also an SLT, so it has pretty much every option. I am leaving it there for a few days, we are getting some more snow, probably pick it up next weekend. There are also a bunch of spare parts and the guy had the trans rebuilt locally not too long ago, most of the upgrades and new parts will work on any of my burbs.

I am at the SG now, this time I forgot to turn the heat up, so it is really cold inside. I need to finish cleaning up the bell housing, then I will probably head home.

That could be fun, you could all sit in different burbs.

Got the needle scaling done, the bell housing is in the blast cabinet now, just did one pass.

Looks much better, barely fits in the cabinet, so there are tons of shadows.

Ear plugs, but they worked pretty well. I bought my first one years ago, just a cheap one, it needed needles, but it didn’t appear they were standard size. I ended up buying a used ingersoll Rand and it is the cats meow, way better and you can buy parts for it if needed. Anyone that deals with rust and caked on substances should own one.

Just sifted the garnet in the cabinet, lots of pieces of **** in there, seemed to be plugged up, but now it works fine. Might do one more pass, but it is way better than when I started. Can’t wait to needle scale the trans itself, should look awesome when done.

I'm a believer in white drivetrains. Anything I ever rebuilt got white Rustoleum. Leaks show up instantly, and visibility is tons better. Many times you can skip the trouble light.

I am planning on trying it, still have some work to do on things, the glass protector for the cabinet is toast and I can’t see anything. I had a spare, but it looks like you have to apply it like a phone screen protector using water, I am just going to get some clear vinyl for it. Probably have some, but it is too late to start that now.

I never heard the term dog eater before so I googled it... all the first hits were Gravleys! Now I want to dig my LI out of storage and go throw snow over the house!

^x2, on never hearing the term "dogeater" before. I really like it.

Here's my dogeater, modified for increased width, and Dingo hydraulic power.

I watched a U tube with a dog eater. I especially liked where he left it in gear walking on its own while he filmed. :)
We live in a different world now, that's for sure!

Two things strike me about those pics. First is the nice bit of engineering that went into that rig. Reminds me of one of Strouty's rigs. Second, this is the first time I've ever seen anything personal of Kay's. From the little I see, I'm impressed and intrigued

Holy cow, that beast is straight out of a Mad Max movie (if Mad Max had snow)!

Only if it was the first movie. The vehicles in the rest of the movies were just rat rods/vehicles, with junk welded together.

I can’t even imagine how far you’ll throw snow with that being hydraulic powered... watch the windows!

We had a big cabinet at work, and when I replaced the glass, I cut a piece of clear acetate template stock and put it under the glass. We used the stuff to lay out parts and locate holes in flat stock. It was about .025" thick.

The biggest issue with this cabinet is access to get to the glass. I am going to rework a ton of stuff on it, it is a great size for smaller parts, this bell housing was essentially touching the front and the back of the cabinet, so there was very little room to work with it. I have a much larger cabinet that I need to setup, but it will not be done for a while, I have had it for probably 10 years now. I don't think I will sell the current little one, I will just make myself a sand blasting area for both in cabinet and outside blasting, will probably use a tow behind compressor to supply air. Like I said, that is my future plan, even though I started thinking about it 10 years ago......

Lunch is over, headed to the SG to mess around with things for a while. I think I have everything to set the cabinet up as a pressure type rather than siphon, going to take a look and see what I have. I also want to setup a computer there, so I may do some housekeeping.

For your sand blasting cabinet, I picked up an older overhead projector - stripped the roller ends off of it and attached them to my cabinet and used Overhead Projector Film Rolls under the glass (made up some thin plastic sliders to hold the roll up to the glass). When the roll is cloudy, I crank the roll to a clean section. Saves the glass.

That is a neat idea.

I am currently working on how I want to modify things, I dug out the pressure pot. I thought it had an air operated foot pedal, but it is electric and runs a solenoid valve, in actuality, that is probably the better way to go.

I also talked to a buddy about my generator and I think I may use it at the SG to be a backup generator and also use it for heavy three phase power. He said it will be a little tricky to setup, but should work just fine. That would be nice, I can run a much higher HP motor on it than with my rotary phase converter. This will be good for testing things out or maybe if I decide to run a big air compressor.

We just rebuilt Donnies sandblast cabinet with this set up. It alleviated the sand locking up in his siphon feed system. I thought about going to a pressure pot system until I saw this work. My cabinet is too small so I am going build a new bigger cabinet and install this set up on it instead of refitting my old cabinet.

That is what I was looking at, of course my “free” (ok, I paid for them, but a long time ago) are looking at me, begging to be used.

That is one nice cabinet. Wish I had room for one that big.

When I put a new window in mine, I used a chunk of cheap window glass as my consumable shield. Considering the short life and expense of the mylar shields, the glass is way more cost effective.

If my cabinet was a clamshell like yours I would consider keeping it. Mine has a door in the end. I had a hell of a time getting an 18" aluminum rim in and out of it the other day so I'm going for something big enough to put a pedal car in at least.
My concern with the pressure pot is having to refill it too often. This is all a guessing game to me right now I will do more research but I did see how that refit made Donnies cabinet useable again. His cabinet is in the powder coat shop and I have been doing his small stuff since it quit.
I'll be watching to see what you come up with.

It is a decent size, I bought it specifically for the color ;) really it was for the clamshell. It has one side door too. I don’t mind hacking things, the idea of refilling the pressure pot hadn’t occurred to me, not sure how often it would need to be refilled either. I just like the idea of know that it is going to push media rather than plugged up. One good thing is that it will mean the media gets sifted more often.

Didn't get much done yesterday, today I have to deal with ice everywhere.....

Also had a ebay/paypal mess, bought an item, seller cancelled sale a day after I paid, money never left my account, ebay says it won't be taken if it hasn't already been removed. Of course an hour after getting off the phone with ebay (45 minutes of my day) the money is now taken out of my account, yet ebay says they already refunded the money and wants me to close the case. On the paypal end, it doesn't even show up on my account page, not even as a pending transaction, it is like it never happened. On top of that I guess the seller has an issue with their bank account and can't refund the money, so I patiently wait while a few thousand dollars is *******...... I hate it when this **** goes sideways, pretty rare, but clearly it can and will. If I don't see the transaction in my paypal account by tomorrow, I will probably have to deal with them too.

On a cool note (not weather related!) I also ordered a 3D printer, my buddy has been trying to get me to buy one for a while, he is really good with the software end. He has a small printer that he has been messing with, I bought one he recommended, well I went above that recommendation and bought one that has a dual extruder and it prints Nylon, this means it will print fully usable parts that could be commercially viable. Salvage Garage has a new R&D Department!!!! For now I would like to be able to make useful things while learning about the software end, I figure this will tie into the CNC world so when I decided to really get things going I will be capable of doing greater fabrication work. Ultimate plan would be to have a decent size plasma table and a 3 axis CNC mill. With these things I think I could make just about anything.

I bought a used 3d printer with several upgrades and then got caught out by not having enough knowledge to do anything with it yet. I'm still working my way through youtube to fill out the knowledge gaps. I still consider it a good investment.
