I tried to get him to buy a jack stand, nothing like risking your life for an Astro van. :(

We picked up the van in Fort Pierce.

Calipers were stuck really good on the driver side rear, replaced both and that seemed to solve the problem. Buddy got mad and hot, then overlooked the “L” and “R” on the calipers, they don’t bleed well with the bleeders on the bottom. :( :(

Do it twice, not fun when you are in a parking lot with no shade. My arms and neck are sunburned.

We are still driving, well my buddy is, we just had a fight and now we are being quiet. He wants to get drinks and get food then sleep, but he says he isn’t tired so I said we should drive further as he wants to drive the rest of the way tomorrow, essentially non stop, I told him I thought it would be better to get a hotel tomorrow as well, then we would be home Monday early, but refreshed instead of exhausted. We are having some serious viewpoint issues, he actually said he would just fly home tomorrow and. I could drive the van home at my own pace. Talk about being slapped in the face. :(

Yikes, you guys never travelled together before I take it.

He's lucky with he got away with not using a stand.

I travelled with my friend for over a month, drove 11,000 miles, no issues.

Though I can see how it happens. Hope all goes well on the rest of the drive.

It is tough been there several times with crew. I learned many times it is better solo, but if not a chain of command works best. I am crew chief and directly responsible for all getting where it should. So we are doing it this way. Always found it is shorter going home than getting to location. The other driving force I found was sleeping in my own bed.

I would not have crawled up under there without a Jack stand. I’ve seen too many jacks collapse or sink. I would of at least used a cinder block or brick or something is better than nothing or a tire at least something.

It was his show, I stayed out from under it. And kept him out as best I could.

We have traveled together before, but not this far and never when it was so hot in relation to where we left. The main issue is he doesn’t want to plan, or he does and then doesn’t follow it. We were supposed to be there Thursday, but he had a bus run to do ( his business), I understand that, but when we drove the van 20’ and it was clear that the brakes were a serious issue he just kept saying they will come out of it and to be fair, they did, until you hit the brakes, then they would bind up again. It would downshift because there was enough friction. I wanted to go directly to the parts store and get all the parts, he wanted tires first, even while we waited 4 hours to get the tires put on, he didn’t want to call around. Of course tonight I get blamed because we went and looked at a truck I wanted to see. At this point, I would not take another trip with him, the other aspects of our friendship mean more. I am going to bed, I am completely sunburned, my arms, neck, and ears are on fire. :(

:shocking::shocking::shocking::shocking::shocking:

A pair of jack stands cost maybe $30 over there, I had a bottle jack fail on me when jacking up the car to take the jack stands out after changing brakes so risking ones life for $30 is just plain stupid.

Have a safe remainder of your trip back Strouty!

I like that he threatened to fly home, leaving you to drive his POS Astro 1,000 miles home. Ha. Some friend this guy is.

Strouty Baking Powder will help with the sting of your sun burn, not much for the other burn. Do your best to enjoy the ride, when the trip is over possibly explaining to your friend that you were very disappointed with, add list here and explain that you went to help him with one of his dreams and... and explain that a good part of your job is logistics, etc. and that you could have helped much more if he used your strengths and experience as you have done these kind of (auto) search and recover missions. Then explain that dumping on you wasn't on the same continent as being a good friend asking for your help with his $#!+ show! Timing and tone will be important for maintaining the long term friendship. Personally I don't think he gets that you were helping him not the other way around. Best of Luck! Harry

I waved to everyone on the way back!

We are almost in Connecticut now, be home about 2 AM, not happy about driving for 17 hours in an Astro turd, it was designed for someone that had their left leg amputated at the hip. My knee is killing me from being contorted. :(

Are you going hunting sboxes in Florida again? Hopefully you've learned your lesson. Remember, the answer to, "Road trip!", is, "Root canal surgery that day.".

I won’t be headed there again, I am thinking Virginia or North Carolina is far enough. ;)

Just got home, going to bed, been a long day.

Even I was thinking that, but it was supposed to be “fun” and I was supposed to end up with a vehicle too, but that didn’t happen. I got a couple hours sleep before my phone rang, at this point I am up for the day, will go to bed earlier than normal, that is for sure.

What happened with that Strouty? Just didn't get a chance to go look or what?

We looked at one truck in Florida, but it turned out to be an import from Massachusetts, so it was a typical rusty POS. The other one was in Jersey and I couldn’t confirm any sort of arrival time, so the guy didn’t want to wait around for me. Due to our no plan of a plan, I had told him three different times so I don’t blame him.

I had a day like yours a few years back. 17 hour+ day towing a car with all the extra gas stops that involves. Decided against a hotel at 8 pm and just decided to get it over with while traffic was light. Plopped into bed around 1:30 AM, but hitting my own bed made it worth it. Getting to sleep in the next day was even nicer, no 7:30 BS for me! :)

Happy to see you made it back intact. I generally try to only buy southern (or western) vehicles. Typically I start my "southern" search in DC and go south. As you found out, you have to keep an eye out for the "snowbird" vehicles, though.

How do you think I feel???

;)

If its anything like me confused! I started writing down which truck was which to remind me of the plans and what was going to happen to them.

I gave up after the first plotter roll of paper was around the walls. It looked like those scenes in the crime dramas with all the strings around pins! :D
