This is not that type of mining, it allows other systems to share the network by paying a token that is worth a certain amount of crypto, at least that is how I understand it so far. We are going to run a test next week to see if it will work, I will plug one of those kill-a-watt devices in to verify things.

Yeah, I'm no expert for sure, just read a little bit. But everything I've read says everything about it takes huge servers.

I’ve always been leery of anything crypto. With banknotes (including digital records) there is actually something that has physical value behind it. With crypto currency, the only thing backing it up is Aether. Nothing, nada, only a hot steamy breath that whiffs of BS behind it. Bitcoin has been around for decades, and during that time it’s been mostly worthless. Except the few times when some airhead screams “Oooo, look, a squirrel !”. Then everyone loses their collective S#!t, the value inflates, and then a few months later the bubble bursts and everyone but the scammers lose their shirts. Rinse, Wash, Repeat.

I’ll have none of that nonsense, thank you.

If this scheme of his is so lucrative, then make him pay rent and the electric bill. He’s a client, just like anyone else that uses space on your towers. You get your money for the space, and have none of the financial risk. If he doesn’t pay his bills, put a lien on the equipment.

You might want to run that by some knowledgeable people including your company's attorney and your financial guy before anything else.

No matter what he is paying some rent, I think we could write up an agreement that could allow for some flexibility if he really does make money with it. In all honesty, I usually don't care about revenue created, just about rent that I collect, he was the one that offered a percentage. Just got this long email from him saying he could got to 33%, pay some rent, pay for the internet, pay for the electricity, and then he says but I don't want to go above 50%......... I don't think he is very good at negotiating, no matter what happens, it will be an interesting learning experience.

When he originally presented it to me, I was thinking I could give him a discounted rate so that I could have internet at all the tower sites, sounds like I may get that anyways, especially if he really does use the small amount of bandwidth that he says. I do know that it is based on blockchain technology, but when I researched it, there was a lot of info, but no specifics.

I think this is what it is:

Or he’s an exceptional negotiator and is in the process of lulling you in to a false sense of superiority - throwing numbers around fast and loose either means he’s not such a great negotiator, the stock is worthless, or he has no long term plans to hold up his end of the bargain.

Of course the alternative is that he may just be an upstanding freewheeling dude with loads of cash to deal out so that everyone is a winner...

I looked into crypto mining a few years ago. There are calculators out there. At the time, i couldn't make any money at my electricity rate (11.9cents / kwh) The only people that were still mining had very very low power rates, like ~3c/kwh. With the bump in value of crypto, i know it's probably moved some, but for most mortals it doesn't make any sense. YMMV.

Had a brain fart over on Harley Jim's thread. I think you need to pay HJ to build you a Shopping Kart and equip it with a knuckle boom.

So the other day I was at Dad’s shop and they had been messing with cement from the tanker trailer that he wants to scrap. He was having my Cousin shovel it into these bags to save it. The bags have liners, but definitely not ideal. Made a huge mess, essentially blocked the entire front of his shop. This was only part way through the process.

Today I come in and my Dad and Cousin are at the Hill in the Quonset hut.

Good thing we installed that pallet racking to put all the pallets of stuff on!??! I guess that means the Quonset hut is now effed, I have no place to put the pallets of things he wanted to keep, so the other half of the hut’s floor is covered with pallets and random ****. To be fair, each one of these bags is worth almost $100 if you bought the cement new, but Dad spent about $30 on the bags and three or four days shoveling and handling the cement. Totally worth it, especially now that there is no place to put anything again! I actually told dad that he need to take them all down because he forgot to put the rebar in them, since they will probably be hard as a rock by the time he wants to use them. :(

Believe me, I was thinking about it.

There is enough room to put a double row on the floor, but he didn't want to do that. I am thinking that I may take some off the pallet and stack two bags on a pallet, then put a double row on the floor. That would leave room for 12 more pallets above. No matter what it is just a mess that I don't have time to deal with.

My point is that he spent in excess of $2,000 on something that will just need to be moved and handled again, all the while squandering his time and help, plus wearing on my good will to save $1300. This is the stuff that makes me die a little inside. :(

I would be on board if the cement was really expensive and easy to store, but not when it is cheaper than cheap (in relative terms) and wastes tons of valuable storage space.

I just want to show why I am so pissy about bags of cement, these are a mix of cement or premixed, all the bags are 3000 pounds and he did nothing with them for years. They must be closing in on 20 years old now.

My main takeaway from this is that a junk trailer that has needed to be scrapped for years is finally going away. Considering the sheer volume of **** strewn from one end of the property to the other, I consider it a minor miracle that your dad is actually doing any cleanup at all.

Except the trailer could be stored outside and was totally water tight as the cement powder was from the 1990s and still hadn’t hardened. I can’t look at the bright side of things in that respect, it was essentially a sideways move, or even backwards due to the amount of space these bags take up.

No matter what it feels like a slap in the face to me as I had spent a lot of time getting the space cleared for the pallet racking and it wasn’t for a couple thousand dollars worth of cement powder that we don’t need.

You should just get your own space. Buy your own property. Do your own thing. You know you want to. Then you won’t be under the thumb of your old man.

I've noticed a pretty universal tendency of people, once in a certain age bracket, to over-focus (make that "obsess") on small, relatively irrelevant things at the expense of the big picture. They can no longer comprehend the big picture and the little things are something they can comprehend and control.

There isn't really a need to put a name to it, it is just something I've been seeing often in my elders.

But even knowing the reason, I would have hit the roof too.

List the bags of concrete for sale ...... As they sell, put your stuff on the shelf (covered in the bag). Park a couple of 'burban's in front of the shelf to hide the contents....

Don't ask, just do.... ;-)

Just to clarify for everyone, I have nothing to do with the Quonset hut other than trying to help Dad put his stuff away so it is under cover during the winter. I thought we had a good game plan until this, I didn’t let him see me get upset or angry, I just made the comment about adding rebar and I tried to keep that humorous. I am not letting him get to me, I have enough things of my own to deal with. Things will have to change if my Cousin does leave, should find out if he has a new job in a week or so. That will have to become a rude awakening for Dad, if he tries to force me into a handyman position, that will be the end of things. I have to draw the line somewhere and that is it.

My iphone just ate my emails, all of them, didn't even leave a hint of them, then it spit out about twenty random ones from the last couple days. Nothing in the deleted folder, nothing in the trash, nothing! I am working with my domain provider to see if they can do a restore of the files. I feel really dumb, I usually archive things better, but if I lose all these emails, things are going to be pretty chaotic for a while. :(

With all those bags of cement, I think you have a solution for your driveway issues in the winter.... rent a tractor with a tiller, till the driveway, mix in the cement powder, rototill it again, and then pack it. The moisture will cure the cement, and you'll have a nice hard driveway that will make snow plowing in the winter much easier.
And you'll clear off the pallet racks.

It would work great, right up until frost, then it would look like the tectonic plates in California, this is from experience. ;)

Today I had to meet with a customer looking to expand the equipment they currently have on one of our towers. Let’s just say he would be banned from this site in his first sentence and it isn’t due to politics. I have had way too much positivity for one day. Of course he also thinks that since he is doing the work of someone much more important than us mere mortals, his rent should be drastically cheaper than anyone else. At this point he would like to take up almost 100’ of the entire tower for his equipment yet he wants a discount. It is more than a quarter of the entire tower! I guess we will have to work on negotiations as we figure out the design of the antenna.

I am eating lunch at the Salvage Garage, sooo much stuff everywhere it is a bit depressing. I can see that I have to deal with a few things really soon, otherwise this place is going to turn into the Salvage Warehouse permanently. :(

Oh yeah, to top it off, this morning I had a ton of emails to delete, decide to do it a different way than I normally do on my phone, must have inadvertently selected all. It deleted all my emails, everything that hadn’t been archived (since 2018). I figured no problem, I will just move them from the trash back to the inbox, nope, they were gone, tried everything I knew, then went to google, no joy. Sure enough, since I use IMAP protocols, it deleted them from the server and wiped them clean of all my devices. :(

I am currently trying to do a restore through my hosting company, won’t know if that works until Friday or Saturday. Talk about a bad morning!

Get an MS Surface Pro and set your phone up to be an internet hot spot, then keep it in the truck. Access the net via 4G anywhere there's cell availability. It's easier not to make errors if you have a bigger screen.

I don't think this was a normal error, the way map is handled, even being deleted they should have gone somewhere, not totally disappear. Besides it was early and I was still waking up. ;)

I hope the restoration works, only time will tell.
