Sounds like the most solid plan I've heard from you yet, and I'm on the same page. No new big projects (the COE) until everything else is running and the place is cleaned up, organized and stable. It'll make your work more efficient. I hope you get the hired help long enough to make a huge dent into your plan.

Once again, I have to keep the new helper busy for the week, as much as I need help, I also need some time to get things done, I haven't had a chance to get a bunch of things figured out so the kid has stuff to do without me involved. It is a bit frustrating, but in the end, if he is worth anything, the effort I am expending will be worth it, I hope.

Today was messed up due to the Camp, I had to meet the contractors that were installing the propane line for the gas grill, it didn't take too long, I got a few phone calls done and I brought the last two water ski chairs up. The old propane tanks are now at my house, speaking of propane tanks, I need to get the spares from the quonset hut over to the SG so we have backups. I plan on being at the SG for at least the morning. I want to get a few more of the leaking military tires fixed, as well as unload the new chassis if possible. That chassis actually seems to have a leaking tire that is a bit dry cracked too, so I will most likely toss the spare on so I don't have to fight a leaker...

I need to get the water system figured out this week at the Hill, the plumbing is essentially done at the office, but I still have a few more pieces to make up the supply. I think I will start on that Wednesday, but it is pretty important, maybe even the most important things for this week.

The bigger tires are about $2500 each. The smaller ones are closer to $2000, but you can buy them just about new as military surplus for under $500 delivered, usually with a rim too.

Last week I had my one main important thing, of course it had ten or more parts to complete, but it got done, so I am going to shoot for that again this week. This morning is a bit screwy as I have to meet someone at 10 AM and I have to keep the helper busy. I hope that tomorrow will even out and I can really get started on the water system. Depending on how long today takes, I may get the basics for the water system figured out, or it may be decided not to go crazy and just do this in a few stages.

The immediate issue is to plumb the water to the shop so we can test the new plumbing. Then the before winter aspect is to add a dump valve to the main water line at the well, this will allow for the water to drain out of the line when you fill the tanks in the winter without having to pull the pump off the pitless adapter, it can be a pain to get back on. Then up under the house I need to setup valves and lines to fill the tanks that will make it easier to swap between tanks without making a mess, also need to add an anti siphon valve so the tanks don’t accidentally drain back into the well. From there it gets complicated, there is a pump in the well itself (over a thousand feet down the Hill), then there is one pressure tank for that, and another setup for the “winter” water, I want to make it so that one pressure tank is used and it is much larger than the current one. I have a shallow well pump that Needs to be replaced at the same time. Then the plumbing in the house is just plain awful and I would like to fix it all. I know I can just plumb up the water to the shop easy enough, I just hate taking the shortcut for now method. We will see how it goes, my plan is to try and clean things up without losing running water to the house, I should be able to use the current mess while all the new stuff is plumbed in, then remove the old stuff as I swap over. Sounds easy, right?

I think the entire water system at the Hill was at one time a "just for now" fix. I want to make it so that things are simple, easy to fix, easy to swap from winter to summer setup, and as fool proof as I can make it. I know it will be worth the effort, I just have so many things to do right now, it is hard to take the time, in the end it seems the time always gets made up by not sleeping......

I just keep thinking that it is almost August and winter will be here before I can blink, so these things have to get done. As much as I don't want to spend the money (right now), I think I have to bite the bullet and buy another conex so I can start cleaning up at the SG, there is not enough space to clean out the four storage boxes/trailers, even with purging. In the end, I may need two more conex boxes and right now the MFers are not cheap. :(

Helper is 20 minutes late so far, we will see what transpires with that, he definitely likes to party and he doesn't tend to think much about sleep.

The winter DD will be the white diesel burb, I will be taking the engine out of that in the not too distant future, then I get to decide what engine goes back in, I am not sure if it makes sense to use the military engine for that particular one, I was thinking the engine from the OGMC would be the best choice, it runs good and has relatively low miles. I also have a second military engine, but I don't know anything about it at all. That engine is in the 2 door Yukon, might be able to start it and see how/if it runs properly, or I could just wing it and put it in and hope for the best...

Helper texted at about 10:30 saying they were a "little late", I told him that two and a half hours is not a "little late" and that I had already changed directions so I would not need him until tomorrow. We will see if he shows up tomorrow, I told him the same time, 8AM.

Well, I got some bad news on the remote control front, my crane is a flow control with on off valves, you can't use the belly box style without have full proportional valves. If I wanted to upgrade, it would be serious, like $15k plus time, plus unforeseen issues, plus whatever curveballs on top of that. :(

I will probably end up parting out the remotes so I can get my money back, but it still *****, I had no clue about that aspect of things, guess my lessons do tend to be expensive ones.............

Strouty, where you getting the military 6.5s? I got one in my bucket truck from Alabama, thing is mint. Came from Teds Trucks and Stuff. Not sure they are still selling but they had had a test bench for starting them to make sure they ran, check compression etc. I think they sold thousands of the things.

Too bad they are harder to find. 6.5s don't go fast quickly but they certainly get good mileage. Once OBD 1 hit they became kind of a pain to diagnose problems but when everything is right they run well. I doubt there is a mechanic around who can work on them though?? I'm sure the school of hard knocks has educated you like it has me on 6.5s though. I think you mostly have OBD 2??

All of mine are OBD 2, I will probably build one that is all mechanical for the M37 project, that way it can be my zombie apocalypse runner.

Helper showed up this morning, early, we will see how he does for the next couple days.

Got the rolling chassis unloaded, then started researching the original remote that came with the knuckle boom that I currently have mounted on Perk, it showed promise, we got the schematics from the manufacturer. At least this one seemed much more basic, we got power to it, we tested out circuits, we tried it out with the PTO going, no luck. We looked over things, found a bad connection, fixed that, still no luck, then we found a weathercock connector that looked like it had been messed with, the inner portion had been "fixed" by someone that didn't know what they were doing, once we fixed it correctly, the crane worked through some functions using the remote! Another one ended up being a bad connection, then the last one was the rotation, it would turn left, but not right. We tried to see if it was a connection, but it wasn't, then we followed the wires and it was a safety switch. We temporarily jumped the wires and it worked, so now I just need a switch, going to steal one of the red knuckle boom that was going to be on OMO. Should have everything wired up and working by the end of tomorrow, full remote, just not the style that I wanted, but at this point it is going to be much better than standing at the controls........

Random pictures from today, I am trying to do this quickly so I can eat my dinner and then go back to the Hill and drop off the dump trailer.

I think it is a pipe dream though, the rims on the FWD are 24" and the cool tires are 20" rims, the bolt pattern is way different, and I am sure the 24" rim was due to brake drum clearance. I might be able to find a 25" rim that would work, then they have a tire that is similar that would fit, except they are about $4,000 each tire and chances of finding good used ones will be slim to none. :(

What's the going rate for decent diesel Suburban's these days? Found one on Craigslist by me if you're interested.

Condition and mileage change the price significantly, so anywhere from $4k to $8k is what I see, most have rust and lots of miles.

Helper was a no show, no text, nothing this morning. I left the Hill to do errands, if he shows up or messages me, I am telling him I don’t need him at all and he can call my Dad and see if he can use him. This is just making me more determined to have the equipment and tools to be able to do everything myself, can only count in a select few people these days. :(

Looks like a decent buy, I have too many at the moment, if it was already a maroon interior, it might be a different story…..
