I went to bed around midnight (no Jameson) and I was up a little before 7, but the day just didn't want to get started. At the Hill now, deciding what to do, I have not gotten much of my list accomplished this week. Need to remember that Dad threw a couple curve balls and I have done a few things that weren't on the list. All in all, so far it has felt productive, I got the rest of the cash for the loader, supposed to pick that up tomorrow afternoon. I still want to get the Mitsu and the 5 Ton dump truck over to the SG, going to start Perk now, need to offload the Truck-Hitch, then hook up the 20 ton trailer.

It is nasty humid out today, if sweating was an Olympic sport, I would definitely be on the podium.

I actually just tweaked my ankle and my knee all in one motion, it was awesome. I am going to take a break and add some ice and Advil to the situation. Worst part is, I was just walking, not doing anything funny, just stepped on an uneven surface and so my ankle rolled and my knee caught the reaction to it. Now my ankle is sore and my knee is on fiya.

I was getting prepped to haul the 5 Ton over to the SG, needed to investigate a brake/blinker on one side, but the second I stepped into the shop it was clear that I needed to do some cleanup. Might have to stretch things into Monday a bit more than I wanted to. Monday is a bit messed up anyways, I have to go in for my DOT physical in the early afternoon, I can definitely drop off the 5 ton before that, we will have to see how my knee feels this afternoon.

Ice seems to have calmed the knee down, getting back to it, still need to disconnect the Tru-Hitch, then hook up the 20 ton trailer, at least that way I can free things up and make sure it is ready to go. Not sure I want to take a load over tonight, but I should have time in the morning to get at least one load over to the SG, maybe two. I have to leave around 1:30 to get to the loader on time, I figure a normal trip to deliver a piece of equipment to the SG would be about 2 hours worst case for a round trip. Maybe I can have the trailer loaded tonight so I can shave some time and effort off that as well. Right now I am still trying to figure out where to stash the Tru-Hitch, might be best to slide it back under the Cascadia, that would get it out of the way pretty decent. Of course, I haven't had dinner and only had a snack for lunch, so I am getting hangry, I really need to get some more food up at the Hill.

Scratch all that, the 20 ton wouldn’t let the brakes free up, I think the S-Cam bushings are gone, had to drag it, beat the drums, drag it, beat the drums, rinse and repeat. Then the truck has a blinker and brake light still not cooperating, I can’t tell what is causing it to not work, every so often I can get it to work, but it is not repeatable, so I can’t tell what the actual issue is. I have a new blinker assembly, but I can’t find it in the mess I call a shop. I went through every drawer and every bin, no luck. I am giving up, it doesn’t effect the trailer lights because they are on a completely different circuit, of course that just makes things more confusing because you would think if the harness or the switch were bad, it would effect both the truck and the trailer.

I am done for the night, trailer is connected, brakes are free, lights work as long as I have a trailer behind the truck.

I have a friend who is a big Jameson guy. I introduced him to Makers Mark. He might be a convert.

How hard is the true hitch to hook up and disconnect?

The tru-hitch is easy to hook and unhook, takes maybe ten minutes either way. It takes up some real estate, so I wanted to tuck it under one of the dead trucks, so it took me maybe 15 minutes, I had to get out a few times to make sure I wasn’t destroying anything.

I haven’t even motivated yet, I need to get moving soon, I figure if I get the loader back to the SG, I am doing well.

Camarata has a few things going for him that I don't, one he isn't running his Dad's companies, two he has land on a hill, but no one else is around, three he isn't smart enough to know what is and isn't dangerous, so he just does things.......

Had to use Perk and the knuckle boom to get the loader on the trailer, the seller still had to push, but I was lifting the bucket and pulling.



Wasn’t on the trailer perfectly, but it hauled fine. Even looks like it will fit inside the shop at the SG.

My buddy has a trailer load of parts and engines too, but that stuff won’t be down here until tomorrow night. I need to get my water tank and pressure washer setup, then it so I can clean it. I guess it has to be unloaded first.

It came with the original 4 cylinder and a 5.9 Cummins 6 cylinder, I want to just fix the original engine, but we have to look it over a bit before committing to anything.

It was actually a small tow compared to what I have done.



We figure this truck was about 35k pounds or more, the tru-hitch is about 8k and Perk is 23k. I was technically not overloaded because I am registered for 69k, but both my front axle and rear axle rating were over on that tow. It was almost an 8 hour trip too, still got almost 7 MPG.

I am optimistic that the original engine will be fixable, seems like parts are available and the cylinders have liners. I ordered some parts and service manuals, hopefully there will be good info in them. The engines were made in Neuss, Germany and the designation is the displacement, so this is a D268 4.4L, 268 cubic inch 4 cylinder. They were made for about 20 years and Case/IH and other manufacturers used them, so my guess is used parts should be available as well as new parts. I should have better pictures in the next couple days, the engine is on a trailer inside my Buddy's pole barn right now.

My Buddy will probably help me with it and then we can farm out anything outside our abilities. Should be a lot cheaper that way.

Got the loader unloaded, really went slick, so slick I didn’t even get to take any pictures, yeah, that slick. I setup Perk to use the winch on the boom, then hooked a chain to rear of the loader with the 5 ton, then took the remote for the boom on Perk and pulled, then released the winch, pulled again, repeat. The remote had been left on and just needed a new battery, so it worked great. Then we towed it around with the F-700 knuckle boom, that was a bit of a pain because it didn’t really want to steer, then when you back it up, it really wanted to steer, but always the wrong way. Had to put a pin in the lock to keep it from steering once we got it lined up.




I checked into tires, looks like about $2k for all four delivered, once it is proven to work, it is getting some new sneakers for sure. Got to figure out what to call it, definitely not loady mc load face….

I need to borrow most of your toys with this shop build. I'm not looking forward to putting up the poles and trusses. I'm guessing your knuckle booms would take quick care of that. And the loader would be nice for expanding the current parking situation.

So, engine looks half bad, but the cheap part to fix. Will need new liners, pistons, basically top end rebuild, we haven’t gotten the lower end figured yet, ran into a 3/8 Allen head bolt and I didn’t have one over at the SG.

there was water inside, one liner froze and cracked, two pistons are stuck and the liners are toast. The water was only in the pan, so the crank didn’t get hit, upper end has minor rust on it, the head will go to the machine shop. Some pushrods (well most) were either bent or no longer straight.

Hopefully we will have the engine disassembled this week, but I don’t think the block is damaged (famous last words?), the rebuild kit is pretty cheap, actually found one overseas that is almost half price, need to check on shipping. This machine was made in Japan, not sure if all 510s were or if this happened to be after IH was bought out by Dresser. Later on these were branded Komatsu from what I can see.

On another more important note, congratulations on losing weight! Definitely not easy to do, and glad to hear that you don't' have Type 2 diabetes.

They were all freaked out last year because my numbers were high, I told them it was my candy obsession, but they were like no it isn't you need to be diagnosed, so I told them to eff off and waited a year, now I am back to totally normal range.

I told my helper to use the string trimmer to clear out the backside of the stone wall, instead he got the one with the blade and took out all the high bush blueberries.
