That is a nice trailer, I have been looking for one with the sliding axles, but I want it to only be 30’ long and those are thought to find. 48’ is really too long for what I do, try and turn one of those around up at the Hill……

Headed out to get the forklift, as always, one brake was stuck on the trailer, so I pounded on the drum, as I am hitting it with a hammer, a mouse runs out.

Guess the brakes need to be looked at.

Because he is in maine and salt is on everything after every winter. stuff sits around and its stuck

Yeah, if I used the trailer more than once a month it would probably be fine.

Benson (new forklift name) is home, I think he is going directly inside, so we haven’t unloaded yet.

Poor Benson, probably hasn’t been in the rain in a long time, but it definitely rained, and it was not inside the shop.



This is what the engine looks like, definitely ran for a while as it beat itself to death. Looks like it could have split in half.

I think I'd rather replace an engine than try to fix rust holes on a vehicle body....

Just curious, what is the cylinder count up to in total? What percent is running and driving compared to projects??
Or is tire count a better metric?

This is (was) a guyed tv tower not far from me. I noticed the yellow frame attached to tower a while back, but at full height. Today I seen it’s been dismantled. I’m guessing the yellow frame is used to remove the section of tower and lower to ground?
The main guy cables are removed.

CB, that is a gin pole, it is like a portable crane. They would use some type of winch setup, usually with two drums (sometimes three), one will hoist the gin pole up and down, the other runs IMO through the center of the gin pole and back dow to the ground (it has a 360 degree swivel setup. Kind of hard to describe verbally, but it is like a leap frog process, you are only limited by cable length, essentially.

Looking at the engines I have and the way they mate to the transmissions the 4 cylinder from the loader needs to stay with the loader, or I need to have a custom flywheel made, also if I were to use it for Benson (the new forklift), there is no easy way to setup the hydraulic pump.

I have located a 4 cylinder John Deere diesel that is setup almost perfectly for Benson, but the seller wants more than I paid for the forklift. I am going to wait until after the auction before I make any decisions, hopefully I can either find a cheaper engine or make a deal with that seller for less money.

Right now all I want to do is get auction stuff ready and take some of my scrap in before prices drop more.

Office is still another 2 months or more before I can start moving things in.

I have both office paperwork and inside shop stuff to do. The auction prep is going to change me to a halt, I ran into some issues with my back and my help, at least I got one trailer ready and a few other things picked out to bring over. Everyone has been telling me to wait for the spring auction anyways, excuses, excuses, I know.

I feel the same way every fall, but this one is super compounded because I have two shops that are both a mess, two yards that are both a mess, two offices, two houses, and more work that I can handle. Sounds about right, right? I want to make sure that things are ready for winter and I can actually do some projects rather than tripping over my current messes.

One step at a time, just always seems like there are twenty extra for each thing, unbelievably, I don’t feel overwhelmed by the stuff itself or any project in particular, it is more about the space to do the projects and getting things ready for snow. I do need to get the water system at the house back together, and I have to decide on a winter vehicle soon, no way am I driving Goldfender in the slop. Enough whining for this evening, going to head home soon, then do it all over tomorrow.

It isn’t really about price, I don’t have the ability right now to spend all the time and effort to get the stuff to the auction, there is way too much going on right now and almost everything is more important than getting rid of things. I did spend almost two full days dealing with the trailer tires, it gets rid of a trailer, plus the crappiest tires (old 20” tube type), that was really important to me and it felt like something was actually accomplished.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I can't even get a bicycle into the shop right now. I have to finish the '03 Screw in order to get space to bring things in. Yeah right. Good luck and I hope your back feels better.

Back feels much better, I took it easy for three days and I am doing some fairly easy stuff today as well.

working on upgrading the tail lights on Perk, thought it would be easier than this, but I ordered the wrong tail light for one side. It was supposed to have a pass through plug for the other tail light, but I guess I misread the part numbers. Luckily the housings are the same, but I have to swap some wires and do a bit of soldering to make it right. Also the studs that hold the lights on are not held hard enough on the housings to remove the locking nuts, so you have to take the housing off the stud, then hold the stud with pliers while removing the nut.

I am about to just go and buy some, two shops and two messes ***** ***.......

I have to pick up some things anyways, but it is a bit annoying knowing full well it was all right on the bench before things got moved to make room when we installed the sink. I am sure it is somewhere, I just can't find that specific somewhere, the soldering iron was right where I thought it would be, going to take a couple more minutes, then I going to get lunch and buy solder.

Nothing is setup at the Hill, it is actually worse than it was before since I have had to move things around continuously dealing with the plumbing for both the shop and the office. I haven't really done any work inside in months, everything has been outside or over at the SG. I ordered a few things I needed from McMaster, now I am headed to do a couple errands and pick up some solder and flux since I still can't seem to find anything here.

I did get something accomplished so far, the license plate was too close to the mud flap, so when I drove down the highway the mud flap would actually bend the license plate, I drilled some new holes in the bracket and now the plate is over far enough that it doesn't hit anymore. Better than nothing, I guess.

Got the solder, some flux, short acid brushes, and a few other odds and ends. I am going to dollar tree for some other random stuff, then I need to eat lunch, after that I should have time to get Perk put back together. Yay!

I got interrupted, but it worked out well, punny, my well guy called and said he was going to bring the valve back for the pitless adapter, what he brought wasn’t what I was expecting, but I guess it will work. I didn’t get pictures of it as he was in a hurry, I will take some when I do a bit of house keeping down at the well. At least I have the pitless adapter back, when he took it, I was a bit worried I may never see it again…..

I am on to the actual project, Perk and the light saga continues, I have all the parts now, so I should be able to get things fixed tonight.
