Things must be different there. Here, auctions have $5 lots all the time. Heck, even $1 lots. We are racing to the bottom here....

Wokspaces above 1200 squarefeet.
Five dollar lots are pretty normal, they make 30% on them, but generally it is a small quantity (maybe 10% out of the 400 lots they usually have) that only do $5, most do anywhere from $25 to $100, they try and keep it under a hundred as they make 5% less commission on things over a $100. I generally have 25 to 40 lots and they usually make about $500 on my lots, plus they get 10% from the buyers end. The smalls may not be the breadwinner, but they are the reason a lot of buyers show up. I figure it is a "loss leader" or the cost of advertising, once bidders get a "taste", they bid higher and bid more often.......

People with addictive personalities should avoid a lot of things, including cigarettes, booze, and probably Garage Journal. Having conquered the first two, I can live with the last but I know I can never go near a casino or auction.

I generally steer clear of auctions. To me it is too much waiting around to maybe or maybe not get an item. I've also noticed that most of the items have some type of a problem that will cost me more time and effort to get it to work.
That said, I have gotten some decent deals that have served me well. I went to a masonry auction to look for a mortar mixer. Four were beat to ****, so I ended up passing.... Next auction I went to was a college that was selling a huge amount of masonry and other equipment. I ended up with an electric mortar mixer for about $200. It was in great shape and it served me well for bricking the garage.
I do end up browsing through the IRSauctions.com every now and again. They are based in York and some of the auctions are here instead of at remote places. Most of the stuff is industrial in nature... for some reason it is easier to walk away when you haven't seen the item in person....
It also helps to be picky about the item to buy....again....how much effort will you have to input to get it to work??

I know there’s an auction house on rt104 somewhere between Fairfield and Skowhegan (closer to Skowhegan), but I don’t know what items they specialize in.
I've been by there, looks like household **** but maybe they have estate sales so maybe some tools? Another estate sale place across river from me but all I ever see them advertise is coins?

We only have trash from repoed trailers (mobile homes) and "antique" auctions. There is no good stuff up here.

Equipment auctions tend to be more common in industrial areas, like the rust belt, like here....

There are about a dozen auction houses in this area, everything from animals, to equipment, to flat out junk. This is the land of auctions and resale shops, I've been set up selling at the 411 yard sale since last thursday.

Honestly, I have never been a gun person. The last year has made me want to be a bit more interested, it isn’t even about the guns, it is about the noise, I don’t really like air or owner tools for the same reason. I fo like BB and pellet guns, but I don’t even own one anymore. To me guns should be like religion, drugs, politics, pronouns, and ****** orientation, I don’t care what your preference is, just don’t try and force it on me. I have a few old friends that I limit my dealings with because they actively seem like they want to use the guns they own a bit too much, one guy wants to move to a castle doctrine state and just sit at home and wait for an opportunity, I don’t see him that much anymore. 
Last week I had the roofers here, they did the barn roof. today and tomorrow the guys working on the front of the barn are here. They are pulling all the board and batten off, then replacing the insulation before covering everything with new sheathing. Right now the board and batten is the only thing covering the insulation and it isn't doing a very good job at all.
We also have been working on the Lista wall, should be working on things more today. At this point we almost have one template made so we can test it out and see if it will work the way we hope. I will say, Lista has a terribly loose jig that they build these things on, nothing is straight and that makes it very difficult when you are cutting things apart and welding them back together in a different configuration. We have made some jigs, then we clamp things together, but so far nothing has been closer than a 1/16" from the factory.

There's definitely a purpose for guns, and i don't really like to talk about them that much, but i would rather have them than not have them. They are tools right? Tools to keep your life on track.
