Ok, at this point I am going to get the Burb tomorrow morning, I decided to concentrate on the DD first, then I can deal with the flatbed later. I really like the Burb and they don’t come up in this condition that often, my Cousin and my buddy both think it is better for me as well. I spoke to the owner for about 20 minutes on the phone, he has sent several videos and I feel good about the deal we made, hopefully I won’t be wrong. The cool thing is that it is a 3.73 rear with posi and that is what I want, it is the best compromise for mileage and towing.

talked with the seller again tonight, confirmed all the paperwork is in order and we are a go for tomorrow morning. Pretty excited, can’t lie about that.

Also started thinking about the rest of my “project list”, one big issue is trailers, almost all of mine need work, I think I may have found a trailer that will work for 95% of my needs, so I may try and buy that, then sell all the other trailers that I don’t need. Also thinking the same thing with my dump trailers, while the small one is nice, I really do need a larger one, and the bigger one needs too much work, so I think buying a new one may just make sense, the old trailers are never going to be worth more than right now, so I think I need to bite the bullet. Also need to buy a trailer for the Burb to haul other burbs, I am not sure what type I want yet, but I think a tilt deck with a winch would probably be the most versatile, especially a deck over trailer, makes it easier to load things with a forklift. So it sounds like this is going to be a crazy month of spending and selling, kind of scary going into winter like this, but I don’t think I want to wait and see if there is anything good on the market later on, things just seem to be getting worse.

The dump trailer is the only one I am not sure about, it will still be pretty expensive to buy a new one even after I sell the other two, but later on once the market has caught up, my used ones won’t be worth as much to sell, catch 22, on top of that I have to buy the new one soon or i won’t even have a dump trailer at all. I found a new 12k GVW for about $9500, my crappy trailer should get $2k without much of an issue and the little one should do $3k, I would start out higher for sure, but if I end up with $5k, I still have to spend $4500, just not sure if that is worth it yet.

The 20 ton trailers are a different story, I think I can sell the tilt deck for about $3000 and the one I use on a regular basis for $4000, the replacement trailer could be as bad as $12k, so I could have an additional $5k to upgrade, in this case, the other two trailers need more than $5k each in repairs/time to get them inspected and legal. So ultimately it saves me some money to do this, plus I have a great trailer that I can use on a regular basis and not worry about it being illegal due to the inspection sticker.

I am hopeful that I can talk the guy down to $10k and that would make things much better all around. If I can make that happen, I am going to jump on the trailer ASAP.

It sounds like a lot of money but once you liquidate everything else the money will level out a bit and there will be a lot less on your plate. I dont have a horse in this race but I think it sounds like a solid plan. One fantastic burb and two trailers that dont need to be rebuilt before you can use them.

That is my thought as well, after I sell off all the trailers, I won’t be to far off. I have sold two that I haven’t gotten the money for yet, so those will help too.

So I still have five trailers to sell, also want to sell the 5 ton army truck (the semi/tractor, not the dump). I have a few other things to sell, some welders and things I can't think of right now, also have a bunch of scrap to deal with, some should be a decent amount of money.

At this point my time is definitely the issue, so if doing this stuff gains me some time, it will all be worth it, plus I won't have the looming repairs hanging over my head all the time. I figure if I don't do something, it will take over and make things much worse than I already feel like they are and I don't like that thought at all. This is definitely coming down to a time or money situation, luckily I am in a pretty good position right now so I can do this. In the past, when I have been in a "good position" I have bought nothing but more projects and I truly think I am starting to learn from my past, not always easy to admit you effd up a lot, but I have. Heck, I am sure I will again, but I don't think I have done as good a job acknowledging things, this time feels a bit different, fingers crossed.

I think you are absolutely on the right track. I have to ask myself all the time "how much is my time worth?". The answer, more often than not is it's worth more to me than whatever the cost is. Keep going, I think a good dd and nicer, not problematic trailers is the way to go.

I think you are dead on right. Like I said months ago, your head is in a good place now. Doing this would lift that burden off you and you could actually see the light and maybe finish your shop so you could build the ultimate burb at your leisure.

Selling your stuff and buying equipment that better suits your needs and is ready to roll is a GOOD plan. Now seems like the time to do it with prices elevated on the stuff you are selling, you'll likely not get a lot more by waiting. Stick with it.

In all the reading of this saga, I believe you are on the correct path...... time saving from moving everything every year alone makes it worth the extra effort NOW. We all love projects that cost little money because they just need a “little” work, but when you have a million of them it is time to reevaluate how many to keep.
Good plan now this time stick to it.......(easy for us to say that)

^^^This. If you can get good $ for trailers that need work and put proceeds towards new trailers, that's a win-win, in my book. And the nice thing about buying new trailers is that they hold their value so well that if you have a change of heart (i.e., find a deal on an even better trailer) you can sell them for close to what you paid for them.

So far the issues I have found:

Temperature doesn’t come up like it should

blend door or actuator for the heat selector is not working, so it won’t switch between functions

driver side door lock actuator doesn’t work

rear passenger side door actuator doesn’t work

radio doesn’t work, it will play for a second, then shut off

things I don’t like:

no outside temperature on rear view mirror

need towing mirrors

radio not working

interior needs to be cleaned

rear wheels need to be spaced out, have to install spacers

need to install bigger tires, the 245s are way too little looking, needs 265s.

other than that, it seems to be decent, may take it on a road trip tomorrow.

Time is money, If you're spending a little money to get a lot of time back, spend it. Do yourself a favor, pay for the repairs to the Burb and move on. That's my 2 cents.

i need to do a few things with it tomorrow, I will plug in the scan tool and verify the temp, but from the feel of things, it was not as warm at the duct as it should be. I think everything can be buttoned up in a couple days worth of effort, I need to get it on the lift and clean things up, plus get a full rundown of what else it needs for an inspection sticker.

If i may be so bold to suggest, make a booking with your local car audio and security installer to fit a CarPlay head unit and reversing camera and replace all the door actuators. Arrange for a valet service to clean it at the same time.
Drive home same day in a sweet smelling ride while listening to bangin’ tunes and talking to Siri.
Time saved is golden.

I actually have all the parts and I enjoy this type of work, so I will probably tackle most of it. Just knowing that I have it has made things less stressful already.
