As much as I hate to say it, I agree with Kat.
You need to cut 3/4 plate? Thats some heavy **** right there. Can't even picture that unless you are going to make trailers or bridges. I have a little hypertherm, thing is the balls for 1/4, will do 3/8 but it takes a slow steady hand.
I will rarely cut 3/4", but I am sure I will need it. The 85 will actual cut 1 and 1/4" steel and severe 1 and 1/2" steel. The 3/4" pierce is for the plasma table only, it doesn't start at the edge, it has to pierce the steel. I am assuming there is a way to trick it into starting at the edge, but for now that is how it will be. As for getting two, I just don't see the need to cut the bigger plate at both locations. Since the torches are the same it really isn't like it matters, so at this point I can put that money towards something else, like a compressor and pressure pot for sandblasting.

Strouty for your plasma table you will NEED the more powerful unit, not for the thickness, but for duty cycle. The table even a small 4' X 4' loaded with small parts will run for hours, 1/2" plate is a likely size for your scale of projects that will need a 1" machine for 100% @ 1/2" (in steel). The smaller unit will be ok for backup and will run 1/4" NP. Harry

FWIW, I agree with Harry, the duty cycle will be important to think about. Plus the unit kicking on and off constantly will tak its toll. The 85 series.

Strouty you need to add the core of a Plutonian asteroid to your plasma table.
I think my system has some pretty dry air, I will have to run some tests again, but the condensation is all gone by the time the air gets to the the last drop leg, at least that is how I remember things.
As for duty cycle, the 65 will run 50% duty cycle at 65 amps and 100% at 46 amps, I am not sure what that equates to in thickness of the steel, but it has to be darn close to 100% for 1/2".
the 65 series is rated to cut 1" steel, so I suspect it will use more amperage to pierce the steel, then back the amp draw down to actually cut it.
Regardless, I am going to buy the smaller plasma cutter for now, then if I need to I will upgrade and the smaller one will go to the Hill. I am just hoping to do this so it doesn't hurt quite as much, $1500 is $1500 or a couple more Burbs.......

I got things shuffled around at the SG so I am ready to unload the plasma table in the morning, I won't be able to mess around with it at all Monday, probably mess with it Tuesday night. The cool thing is that I don't need the plasma cutter to mess with it, I can try things out and even play around with the engraver that it has.

We have a sharpie attachment to look at the cutouts before we cut metal, there always seems to be a change or two to make.

I had to turn it around and pick it backwards, otherwise there would be no way to pick it inside the shop with Baker. It took a little effort, some wood blocks, and luckily I had 5’ forks on Guido. Got it inside and did a quick setup and tested it for function, now all I need to do is figure out how to use it, well, also get a plasma cutter.

I thought that the actual torch was integral to the plasma cutter and fitted to the table?

Care to share what you had to pay for the plasma table? What brand and where was it made?
It looks very similar to a plasma table I purchased in China for our China factory when I lived there. That one was larger, ~5'x10' table.

Jack stand, unfortunately the torch won't fit the newer plasma cutter and the one that it does fit was discontinued last year. I will have to buy a new plasma cutter and install the torch on the machine. Probably take a few hours to get it in there and setup, the table is very well built, I am happy with the purchase so far.
Kent, the table is a swiftcut, I think they are made in the UK. It is a 2019 unit, originally priced at $21k, I paid $4,500 delivered. I felt like it was a fair price, I am sure I could make my existing plasma cutter work with it, but since I need another one for the Hill anyways, it makes more sense to get a new one and just set it up so I can swap the plasma power supply between the CNC and a handheld torch.

The water table has lifting rings to pick it out for easier cleaning, the unit has fork pockets in the front for easy moving, it has a magnetic torch holder so you don't do as much damage when you crash it, it has a built in engraver, and it has a tracing camera that will allow me to make hand drawings into DXF files. It is also heavy, very heavy, I can barely slide one corner of it sideways. A lot of the tables I saw were pretty light in comparison to this one, I am just glad I found a good one used, would hate to have to spend the money for a new one. They upgraded to a 5x10 and it was $35k without the plasma cutter.

I was just surprised that the torch came with it. I think of that as part of the p/c not part of the table. Was starting to wonder if the end of the torch were a standard and interchangeable. Hypertherm offers a "machine torch" for mine. Freaks me out thinking that it's an '01 and I bought it new! How time flies.

The torch is fairly interchangeable, but since they discontinued that version, I either have to buy an out of date plasma cutter and hope it doesn’t have problems or buy all new and be done with it. The newer models have better cutting capacity as well, so it will be worth the extra money. I am checking into the 85 series and availability, local dealer says it is about a week away, but I don’t trust that, I would rather buy one that is in stock and shipping to me ASAP.

The plasma units have really improved in the last few years. They are about ¼ the size also, the new one Donnie bought isn't much bigger than a big shoe box, the old one was like a suit case.

Thanks HJ, I suspect it won’t get used as much as it should, but it will be great to have it when needed. I most likely will find all sorts of things to make after I get using it. The good thing is that I need to learn the software end anyways, I have a couple other toys that I really don’t know how to use and this should force my hand.
Been busy at the Hill, the Maroka pulled Gringo up the hill, it wasn’t pretty, we had to back up and turn without the load a couple times, I didn’t have a rugged enough two way hook setup, so it was pulling off one side and it would turn the Maroka pretty hard to that side. Then we got toolboxes moved around and made a bit of a mess as well as some overall improvements to both bays of the shop.

I think everyone is going to win the Plasma Cutter debate, I talked with the sales rep for Hypertherm and he told me that using the 65 series on thicker stuff will eat the consumables, I hadn't thought about that aspect, so I would be tripping over dollars to save pennies. I found one in stock (they physically confirmed it) and I am ordering it now. I wanted to order local, but it turned into a 5 week wait and I am not that patient.
Just got back to the SG with the first truck, going to take Perk tomorrow morning to get the second one.
