Quite a few of those logs don't look big enough to be worth saving, other than for firewood. I was told a minimum of 8" on the small end, otherwise it wasn't worth it. Heck, I had issues getting rid of 10" Cherry logs. And I never understood keeping scrap around, let alone spread all over the place. I get waiting until the price of scrap is up, sort of, but I can't wait until I can process the next two big items, to see our scrap gone. Not trying to bust your chops, I understand you don't own a lot of this. Good luck with it.

I was rushing around again and didn't get pictures, I will get some tomorrow, basically all the cut trees are cleaned up now. I didn't get to do anymore with the stumps, but I should be able to do that tomorrow. I have found a good location to create a "stump dump" and I will start working on that as well. I don't have a 4x4 truck right now, so no way to get the trailers up the hill from the quonset hut right now. Hopefully my U-Joints will be in and I can get the front driveshaft back together for the Blue Burb, it was locked up pretty good.

I had a couple sidetrack emergency type things to deal with, but overall, getting rid of the scrap and all the trees was a huge improvement.

All I have is an M18 chainsaw, my Brother has essentially every size Stihl makes.
Your brother and I think alike - I have just about every size Stihl makes as well - 020 rear handle (32cc), 020 Super top handle (35cc), 026 Pro (49cc), 036 Pro (71cc), 044 Mag (72cc), Contra (106cc), 075/076 (111cc). Contras are collector saws; rest get used. I need to pick up an 066 (92cc) to fill in the gap between the 044 and 076.

I need to buy an M18 chainsaw as well.

He has also been buying some of the Chinese saws, he has some really big ones, they are cheaper than a used equivalent and they seem to hold up well.

The M18 works nicely for smaller stuff, I really think the bar is too big for the power it has, but it will cut a 15" tree without much trouble. I mainly use it for smaller stuff, it has cut a lot of pressure treated 4x4s to use as blocking. My main reason to have it is the Burbs, I prefer not having gasoline inside them, so battery powered stuff is nice.

I'm not a huge fan of the Farmertech Stihl clones. I prefer to buy used saws and rebuild them with OEM bits.

Please recommend me a Stihl saw to get. I have a Homelite with 14" bar and it's just not cutting it. I would like to move up to a real saw and i like my Stihl stuff. Clearing downed trees and bucking to firewood is my main desire.

I guess I did get a couple pictures. I am going to have to setup a grapple on the Mitsu, it is really nice to move lots of **** around relatively quickly. Only issue is you almost need to machines, one with a grapple, one with a bucket, it isn’t a quick swap to go back and forth. I did get pretty good feeding the chipper with it, but my Brother’s Kubota has such a small cab, it is actually painful on my knees getting in and out, you have to be a contortionist or 5’4” and 125 pounds.

I have been tempted to get the M18 chainsaw. The biggest battery I have is a 9amp that came with the string trimmer, which I LOVE! What size battery do you use in the chainsaw, and about how long does it last?

For some reason my "go to" 044 Stihl is getting very heavy for what could be done with a smaller saw. I've got a half dozen Stihls and after checking with the saw fanatics on another forum, nobody had a bad thing to say about Echo saws. I bought a little 49cc and I work it. No complaints and it was only $350. My first non German saw.

How many hours does that battery last in your trimmer? Sorry to jack your thread, S.

I use 9s and 12s, string trimmer goes for about 30 to 45 minutes on a charge, depends on what you are cutting. I have a couple of the trimmers, one has the circular saw blade style cutter setup on it, does a good job at stuff under a couple inches. I also have the pole saw attachment and that is great too. Everyone’s mileage will vary when it comes to battery powered stuff, if you keep binding the blade up, it is going to kill the battery quick, if it is a nice clean cut, they last much longer. If it takes you more than an hour to do your trimming, you will want a couple 9 or 12s.

Keep in mind with the cordless tools once you let go of the trigger you're not using the battery. If you have a lot of walking between where you're trimming you'll go through less batteries than running it for 2 hours straight.

When it is raining, I am not a self starter. :(

I have to do some errands, then sign up for a new Digsafe account, then who knows what.

Moved a trailer, had to put air in all four tires first, been pulling dead batteries out of equipment, I am going to replace at least five. I would like to install some permanent disconnects on each piece of equipment, along with Anderson connectors for easy jump starting. The disconnects should solve 90% of my issues, but things sit and every so often someone forgets to turn off the disconnect, me included. In the end having an easy way to jump the equipment makes sense, some of them, like the skidded are actually dangerous to jump start, you have to get into the pinch point, plus there is a spinning driveshaft right above the batteries.

I have the army dump ready to load stumps, might get some this afternoon, at the latest it should be tomorrow.

I also need to get rid of this scrap, trailer too.

Got the batteries from the Hill, there are more at the SG, not sure I will make it there before the battery shop closes. I have a bunch of totes to pick up, same guy as last time, another 49 for the new storage trailer.

Ticks already? Usually May here before they start up. I bought guinea fowl to keep the population down here.
Yeah, I couldn’t believe it myself, but apparently they are out here. 😞

I got the totes unloaded, just before the rain really hit. I now have a bunch of totes ready for the new storage trailer, all I have to do now is find the time to move everything out of the Conex and a couple other storage containers, just time, that is all I need.

Looking good Strouty. You are making some progress.

Is that the Mayflower trailer you picked up recently or something else?

We have ticks all winter on the coast. My dog has them on him in March on a regular basis. It doesn't get cold enough here anymore to kill them, if its above freezing they can be active

Ron, it is the Mayflower trailer, I just haven't had a chance to get things transferred yet.

Walrus, why did you have to tell me that, now I am going to be creepy crawly forever. :(

Those look like nice totes. Good score. Will those work with your plans for the file shelves? Or your fancy pallet rack system?

The totes are actually for the shelving I already have installed in the Conex and other trailer, they are a one time use deal, I buy them for $9 each, technically it is buy ten get one free, but that is about the equivalent of the $9. They are a bit over $30 new, plus shipping, I may buy some more, but at this point I really need to setup some shelving and start to load them up. The old ones I have do not fit as well, plus they all had a hole cut in them, making it a bit of a mouse issue if you didn't put the hole to the aisle side of the shelving.

My daughter came back from college one spring and put some of her dorm stuff in a Costco bought tote - similar but less industrial than yours and sat the tote on a shelf in the garage. She didn't know that it was a bad idea to leave food/snacks in the tote for the summer. There was quite the mouse fiesta going on in my garage for a while until I found out and got it under control.

Keep the updates coming Strouty - I enjoy reading your daily posts on what's going on.

If you happen to have a burb to scrap (perish the thought . . . ) you should tow it to the scrap yard with the blue burb and tell blue that it's next if it doesn't behave - to encourage the others as the french said . . .

Cheers

Jim

Scare the Blue Burb straight!

Pallet racking is usually pretty deep, you would want something 24”, otherwise it gets pretty narrow in there really quick. In the end, it really depends on what you are trying to store in there.
