Made it to pick up the alcoas just before they closed. Now I am unloading a few things, then I will head home to pick up some more deliveries that came to the house, then I can head back to the SG or not, just depends on how I feel. At this point I am so far behind where I thought I would be, I will be lucky to get the Muv-All back together tomorrow. At this point I am just going with the flow, I have way too many things vying for my attention, if I don’t go with the flow I am going to be so stressed out, it won’t be funny.

I had the 50 gallons of hydraulic oil sitting on the floor for a while, not sure why it never made it back to the Hill, but it will be there tomorrow. I do feel like I am getting things done, but it seems like I am putting in way more effort than should be required to get stuff done, I guess that is what it feels like when you work alone too much.

Agreed, I used to make a plan and complete it daily, then I had those surgerys and it changed me. I would make a plan/list and not get through it, that would piss me off, and I blamed everything except myself. Now I kind of have a master check list and I dont play the blame game, I'm older so I'm slower I just accept it.
I should have had these footers dug and poured Monday but I didnt, maybe I'll go get the concrete tomorrow and start pouring, my goal is to have at least one course of block down by the time it rains so I dont have to fight the mud. That's all. Give yourself a break and some credit all at the same time.

Everything here is overwhelming if you look at the entirety of the situation. I am just trying to concentrate on one job at a time. Today's job was the gravel. It will all get don't eventually. Maybe by my great great great grandchild.

I work alone most of the time. Well besides having dogs for company. Mostly I prefer to be alone. No mental load of trying to socialize. Just my 3 brain cells ticking over. However, with a suitably trained assistant, things can go so much faster and easier than when you're solo. You don't have to figure out how to perform huge tasks with only one set of hands. You just turn on the personality and point and speak and interact. And again we're back to why I prefer to be alone.

I keep trying to get home earlier, it isn’t really working. Tomorrow morning I am going to mark out where the gate posts need to go for one of our towers, then I can call digsafe (811) and have them mark the utilities, both sides of the road have underground conduits, one side is power, the other side is phone/fiber. I have a feeling, I may be doing some hand digging.

After that I have to unload the ramp truck, luckily I have help, that bench is freaking heavy. Then from there we are going to work on the Muv-All some more.

I haven't had an employee in 20 years, I work alone for a reason. Don't have to worry about anyone but me. May not be as fast but I know how everything was done. Keep going and it will get done

Something else that has been going on in my life is a repercussion of Covid, my sense of smell has been muted for a while, I can’t really smell strong smells until I get right up to them, so diesel fuel and gasoline don’t have a strong odor to me. Recently food has started to smell, basically anything with meat in it, especially chicken smells exactly the same as $hit and cat food. It is awful, apparently my Brother has it worse and he doesn’t just smell it, he says food tastes bad too. I can still taste the actual food, but the smell is horrendous and getting worse. Very interesting side effect, not.

Marked out things at the tower site, then looked over what needs to be done to clean things up. Found a Turkey Vulture on eggs in one of the buildings that needs to be removed. Guess I am waiting a bit, these ugly mofos are unfortunately protected.

Pretty easy to forget how much **** is floating around, but there is a lot of it at this site. Plus the trees and bushes are over growing the inside of the compound, so that needs to be addressed as well.

It absolutely socks I've been dealing with it also. Everything smells strange like your picking up parts of the oder but not all of it.

Definitely Dad and the property was his Dad’s, so it runs in the family. I try not to keep literal trash, but my Dad and his Dad would save trash so they wouldn’t have to pay to get rid of it. I have no problem taking things to the dump, sometimes it ***** to pay, but better than having to deal with all the **** later. Of course my Dad says he doesn’t care, because he knows I am going to have to deal with it, not him.

Not being able to taste things I would be tempted to only eat healthy food and lose some weight. Only to gain it back once my sense of smell/taste returned.

Then we were going to fix the forklift so I can use it to lift things up to the second floor, then when we started moving things around I decided I couldn’t move the sheet metal for the shelving unit again, this lead to cutting it to size, then when I went to plug the welder in, I remembered that the shop had all the old 30 amp outlets, I run 50 amp plugs on all my stuff. Then we decided to swap the outlet out rather than use the adapter, then we decided to change out the other outlets, that turned into a trip to Home Depot, plus we cut some aluminum for the well cover, that needed to be dropped off to have it rolled into a 40” circle. I could go on, there are about six more layers to this mess, but you get the point.

I just wish that I could have completed something that was more than just a simple thing. Almost got things done on a couple of the things, but did absolutely nothing on the Muv-All. My body is literally screaming at me, I am going to sleep in and take it easy tomorrow, if I don’t, I am not sure what will happen.

Simple tasks are still necessary tasks, otherwise you wouldn’t have needed to do them before moving on to other things on your list. Being productive doesn’t mean only accomplishping the big projects, it includes the small details as well.

As for taking a day off, go for it. You’ve earned a day every now then.

Whoa, whoa, I never said anything about taking a day off?? I just said taking it easy.

I slept an extra two hours, feels better, but not great. My neck is bugging me, may have to see the chiropractor, I think I need to schedule with him quarterly, that seems to be a good gap that should keep me updated.

I have a few errands to do, then I want to go to the Salvage Garage and get that dang blast cabinet functioning.

I understand the working all day on things nobody will see and not accomplishing a bigger visible project. The reality is the big projects don't get done as easily if the little things aren't took care of.

I get your frustration. Mine is to the point that I'm finidng myself moving slow, no matter how much I want to get going.

I think part of my issue right now is that I am essentially stuck inside doing all these things and the weather is perfect, also not having the Muv-All done makes it so I can't get my equipment shuffled. I kind of feel like I have one hand tied behind my back right now. The frustration will wane when I start to see some real progress and I know that is coming. All these little things will eventually add up to big improvements, but the incremental progress isn't as nice as actually getting something accomplished that you can see.

I just got a few more things done in the office, now I need to load up some things to take to the SG, eat some lunch, then do some errands as I meander to the SG to try and get something done over there. I do have to start thinking about rain, if it rained right now, I would be in trouble, things are everywhere, especially tires that aren't mounted, they need to get put away or mounted, preferably mounted. I will post some pictures of what we got into yesterday, it actually took 4 hours to "plug in" the welder.

I think that's the way to go. If you put a deadline on it you are setting yourself up for failure, whereas a "go with the flow "list allows you to say "look what I got done today" so that you get a feeling of achievement.

Yesterday got me to this point at the Hill.

Had this maroon shelf waiting to be made specifically for my desk area, then we mounted $90 worth of plywood to the wall so I can have a nice place to screw shelves or whatever I want to it. Still need to install a light.




This was intertwined with the outlet upgrade, there is still work to be done with this.





Also got the wobbly shelf reinforced, only to find out it wasn’t really the lack of x bracing that was the issue, so had to screw it to the wall, that was a process, went from a ramset with exploding concrete to tapcons, still need to load it back up.

Thanks Jay, it was a long time coming, I had a bunch of different ideas, but then the maroon shelf was almost the perfect size. We did have to move the metal pipe support, but that was done months ago, I had been either moving or tripping over these parts for a while now.

I may have to take it even easier than expected, I am beat, everything hurts and just standing is making things worse, let alone actually doing things. I have everything loaded for the SG, I am thinking of driving over, unloading the stuff and seeing how I feel from there. I could use some caffeine, but I have used more of that in the last week than I would like to admit. I try and shy away from that as much as possible, but sometimes I just can't avoid it. I really wish I had a couch or something setup at both shops, then I could take a quick rest and get off my feet, sometimes that is all it takes for me. I do have a bunch more deliveries arriving at the house today, so I guess I could regroup and swap days, just need a few more things from the Hill and I could adjust to go with the flow once again.

Don't over do it, it'll cost you more in the long run. And yes, I have many fingers pointing back at me. The Orphan is sitting in the shop. Front seat reclines a long way back. Great place to catch a nap. Heck, sitting in a chair with my head against a wall is enough for me to relax enough to catch a cat nap. Time to by a couple of cots?
