I was reading another thread on here and I saw the phrase "yak-shaving". I think that accurately describes all of your projects.

We got the forklift elevator setup and functioning. The railing has been modified so things can go straight into the door now. We took out several cabinets, moved some butcher block upstairs and took a couple cabinets off the rollers and put them in the final location. The guy working on the office is either getting supplies or not coming today, so there may not be any progress on that front.

I was missing some parts for my shelving, imagine that, so there is still one shelf that needs to be assembled on the front custom rack in the Mayflower, I can probably get it local on Monday, but I am going to order some spares regardless, otherwise I will have to wait longer if the local supplier doesn’t have them.

With the price of heating oil at $6 a gallon, it will be at the Salvage Garage, now I just have to secure some more waste oil. Of course this furnace may only end up as parts, it was cheap enough that it was worth taking as is. It is missing the oil pump motor, the blower fan, and the ignition transformer. The guy says it worked when he upgraded it to a larger one, but that was several years ago. I will get to look it over better in the next couple days, regardless, the waste oil burner portion is the same as almost all the other furnaces (even the one at the Hill), so having the parts will be good, especially if I am going to run two of them. It is only 140k BTU (same as the Hill too), so it may be better to buy a larger one for the SG. I guess this is the better style, easier to clean, more efficient, and essentially the current design (except this one is over 20 years old with 20k hours on it. I was after the tanks, they are both 350 gallon tanks and I wanted one for the Hill and the SG, got everything as a package deal that I felt good about. I am going to try and get things figured out in June, I want to make sure I have a working waste oil furnace and a regular oil fired furnace at both locations, this gives me a backup source and I really think that is necessary due to the finicky nature of waste oil furnaces. The only thing that ***** is the chimney/exhaust pipe situation. They are not suppose to share one pipe, so I either need to setup another one or figure out something for that.

At this point I figure if I can get my trailer done this year, I will be doing well. :(

The savings on heating will be worth it, with the price of heating oil, I may be able to offset almost all the costs this winter. I usually use a tank of oil a month if I am working out of the shop, if I keep things really cold, I can make it through on about one tank of fuel. The goal is to get started on one of the diesel burb projects this winter, so I expect to be using the space more. Even if I only use two tanks, at current prices, that would be almost three grand. Even if heating oil prices go down, it will still pay for itself over a few years, I probably should have done it a while ago, but I hadn't dealt with the other waste oil furnace long enough to feel comfortable with it. I am sure I will learn a lot more as I go.

I was thinking of making it so that if I need the backup heat source, you would have to manually swap the parts, but could use the same chimney, need to investigate this more.

I am at the SG getting things ready for today, going to be mostly spent on the trailer with a few miscellaneous loose ends ******* on random projects as well, should be a good day.

I like that setup for the blaster!! I have had similar thoughts on adding a blow gun inside.

I did buy a cast aluminum setup for the sand dispenser that replaces your black iron fittings. In hind sight, the fitting arrangement would have worked just as well.

I need to add a better vacuum setup to get rid of the dust..... and a better light, but it's workable and that is enough. It is on wheels, so I can tuck it back in the corner...

Well it was short lived, the gun I am using is ridiculous, it leaks, so the suction doesn't work like it should, then the tip is ridiculously large so it is an air hog. I had to sift the media a couple times, so now I am going to put a screen inside the cabinet that will catch the biggest stuff, but I also found that I have to use the blow gun to send a blast of air back through the siphon hose to make sure that is cleared out too. Lots of fun, I can see why a pressure blast setup is the best way to go, it only uses clean media and doesn't rely on a siphon to get the media to the gun. I am convinced that I can make this work, but I am not sure I should waste more money on it, if I just setup the pressure blast unit, then it should be essentially done, I do need to find a source for tips that will work with the gun though, otherwise I will need another gun too. It is kind of annoying to put out all this effort for the results I am getting, it does seem to have to do with the media being reused, when I first put the new bag in, it worked very well.

Kay makes a great point. I found that less media in the hopper works better. Too much media, or moist media can cause the plugging and/or surging.

Will have to try that, but the current gun is my real issue. I ordered everything to convert to a foot pedal and a good gun with a better tip. I really think that will help the most. We will see, should be here next week. I also ordered some stainless mesh to help screen out the larger pieces before they can even hit the siphon portion, that will be here tomorrow.

I don't actually know if there is an inlet, I will have to look, if not, there will be.

Yesterday was a pretty good day, started out by working on the pressure washers, still no go on either of them, the big gas powered one would run for a little, then the pump would kick out, wasn't able to try the heat as I wanted to make sure the pump was working so I wouldn't burn something up. The electric one wouldn't pump at all, but we got the fuel filter and lines plumbed up, so it was ready. Luckily the pressure washer guy is a money *****, he came by at 7PM and fixed the smaller one, then we did some trouble shooting on the bigger one. Turns out I just don't have enough water flow to run it, I will have to work on that for sure. He did say that if I fill one of the totes, the pressure washer will **** water from it and it should be fine without any auxiliary pump or anything.

In the middle part of the day we worked on the Muv-All trailer a bit, got the length of the air brake hoses figured out and ordered all of them for next week. We looked at the Clean Burn furnace and it looks like it is in good shape, I have to clean it completely out before I can say for sure. Then we worked on getting the big oil tanks pumped out, they have some crappy stuff in them, probably a third of it was water. The tote that we put that **** in will be left outside this winter, so whatever water is in there can freeze, then I can pump off the oil. There is probably 50 gallons that is still usable. I still need to drain out what is left, then I am going to pressure wash the tanks and start with totally clean tanks, that way I can keep them as clean as possible.

We also assembled the last wooden shelf in the Mayflower trailer, I still have a lot of metal racking to assemble, but I wanted to get the wooden one done so I can start loading things all the way to the front and work my way out to the back door. I also took delivery of one of two dehumidifiers that a friend scored, we agreed on a reasonable price, but he wants me to hook one up and make sure it will work for what I need. Essentially I am going to install one at the Salvage Garage and the other in the basement area of the house at the Hill. These things are big, they still run on 120 volts, but on a 20 amp circuit. They will take 25 gallons of moisture out of the air per day. This will be great for both locations, the SG has air conditioning, but it stays damp enough that the floor gets wet. The basement area at the Hill stays cool, but the moisture is pretty bad, the dehumidifier will be a stop gap fix, long term will be to divert the water that comes off the roof away from the foundation.

Unfortunately, today is going to be a short day, I have to attend my GF's coworker's wedding, not my idea of fun. :(

I am pretty sure it won't be open bar. Worst part is that with my new found problem of certain foods smelling awful, I am not even sure I will be able to eat anything. Probably just going to eat before I leave and hope that I don't get trapped there all night. I guess it doesn't start until 4PM (same time they are predicting thunderstorms to roll through). I have done a couple things up at the Hill, but I am about to head home so I can get cleaned up and change my clothes.
