Right now I am thinking of building the lower portion of the cage with cement backer board, it should be durable compared to most anything else and Chuck will not be able to easily climb it. I will most likely make a small version to start with, then if it seems to work go with something larger.

Fairly productive day, at least for Chuck....
I hope to have him better situated at all three locations, that should make my job easier when I have to go from place to place. I am getting some sort of camera tonight so I can monitor him remotely, that should be better than interrupting his sleep when I check on him.

Chuck got a new toy, bought him one of those clear balls that he can run around the house in. I wasn’t sure what he would make of it, but he moved around for a bit, then became frustrated. I will keep trying it, I bought the bigger one, so he is actually a bit small for it right now. Jack thought it was great, he kept trying to say hi to Chuck.

First baby monitor camera setup and working. Looks like I found the best one for the money, you can add 100 total cameras or other devices to the account and they don’t make you buy a subscription to keep them working. You can use a memory card or record on your phone as needed. They also give you a small amount of temporary storage for motion detection. It was $45, MobiCam HDX. So far I am hooked, once I figure out a suitable mount, it will be perfect. This picture is from a dark room.

I wish, today has been a pain, he woke up about 10, hardly ate anything, I used regular applesauce instead of the strawberry blend I had been doing, so I made another batch with the strawberry, no go. He won’t hardly eat the greens and he is currently throwing a fit in his cage. Pretty sure he could shake the cage apart if he tried. I ordered a much better cage that will be for the house, but I still have to get something built, but it isn’t easy when your Chuck is going crazy. We wrestled for a while, we went outside, we tried eating several times, I gave him a bath, he even went in the clear ball, still hasn’t settled down. I am thinking about putting him back in the ball and just letting him run until he drops.

I would agree on the 2 year old thought process, I think he is kind of working through things, all at my expense. The new cage won't be in until next Friday, so it is going to be a long week. I may have to use one of the rooms at the house at the Hill, at least I could get some sleep, of course I would feel bad leaving him alone, but I guess he has to grow up at some point. I think the biggest trouble I am having is the bathroom situation, he used to just go in the corner and it essentially fell into the tray below, I had absorbent stuff that I could flush down the toilet, then we tried some fresh alfalfa and that turned into his new cover for the corner when he was done. Well now it is not a cover, it is the new liter, so I tried to remove that, now he does the same thing with the towel in the cage. I can't clean the thing out every time he uses it, at least not without waking up the entire house. I have cleaned it out twice so far today, plus changed the towels out a couple times. I have this plastic corner liter box that I may just try and put some dirt in, my other thought was to put the absorbent stuff in there, but drill a bunch of holes in the bottom, so urine runs through to the bottom tray. Until I have a cage that opens up better, I can't get things cleaned as easily as I would like, plus the dang thing is on the floor and I don't have a suitable sized base. There are a couple used cages locally that I thought were the same thing I wanted to order, but then I found out the differences are pretty significant. The same company makes both style cages, but the ones I have found locally are snap together and have small horizontal bars designed for rats or fairly small critters, the one I ordered has larger spaced vertical bars and assembles with some screws, it is designed to be rugged and Chuck needs rugged, I am already going to have to use a bunch of zip ties to hold the current cages together. I have found a couple of the correct cages, but they are well used and will take a good four hours of driving to get them, it may be the best option at this point, I am going to need one at each location for now anyways, might have to make some contact with the sellers.

Kids are a pita
I will say the camera is going to be pretty helpful, I used to have to turn on a light and get out of bed to see what he was doing, now I can see everything clear as day in the dark. I do need to make a decent mount for the camera, the cats have messed with it twice already.

At the Hill working on clearing space inside so I can function. I have way too much stuff in the house, a good chunk isn’t even mine, might even be more in there that isn’t mine than what is. Chuck is in his box in the bathroom, that way if he gets out, he can’t get too far this time. 
Trying to ween the Chuck is making him mad, very mad. Basically got him hungry enough to eat a bunch of greens outside, but everything that makes noise scares him and it is a stressful process. Today we have skipped one entire smoothie session, got to keep at it until he starts eating more types of food.

Remember he is a baby, and a prey animal, and his mommy is really wierd looking. He will be spooked by everything for a while.
I think today has been partially successful, I put Chuck in the cage and he started shaking it wildly once I left. I just watched on the camera to make sure he wasn’t doing anything dangerous, he must have shaken the cage sides for 30 minutes, I decided enough was enough. I opened the bedroom door and picked up my makeshift spray bottle, Chuck was instantly silent, he backed away from the door and started foraging the cage floor. He went to the bowl with the alfalfa pellets in it and I watched him eat at least half a dozen. I thought that was great, then he was eating the day old greens, usually they are not touched after even being the slightest bit wilted. I then decided to close the door to the cage, he went right back to shaking it. Then I opened it up again and put him in the tote, I was going to give in and let him have a smoothie, but I decided to play one more card, I gave him some of the mixed salad greens and he ate those too. I know this is far from over, but I think we are headed in the right direction. He is now out cold again, I guess all the cage shaking wire him down.

If only I could eat that healthy!You are much welcome, I had to half give in, he is eating greens, but the clover and dandelion greens. He was whimpering and I know it was because he was hungry.
