Ok, so remember when I moved 12 tons of black beauty in a couple days? Yup, so does my body. I am severely feeling everything right now, luckily it isn’t my back, but all my muscles are sore and things are pulling on my neck making it a bit clunky. I just got to the Salvage Garage and I feel like I want to go home already. It is absolutely beautiful outside, close to 50 and climbing, so I am going to make an attempt and try to do some of the lighter things (do I even have lighter things?), but today is not going to be a long day, I won’t make it.

I think I have the pallet rack roof figured out, I found some angle iron that should fit the bill, I am working on the easiest way to attach things now. I should have a mock up ready for your viewing pleasure by tomorrow..... I am just going to work on getting all the parts together and clearing room to work in the shop, I may have to chop up one of my uprights, but it was an extra anyways.

I resemble that remark. Momma's She Shed is making it so that when I finish a days work on it, I'm done. No evening shop time, just come in and watch some PBS DVDs

I feel your pain, as I started moving, things got a bit better, I think I got a bit too ambitious though, I have created more of a mess than I would like to admit. Should be worth the effort though, getting floor space back is the name of the game. Pallet racking is on hold for a minute or three.....

Those are the shims for the Stak Rack, they were taking up a huge amount of space, so I consolidated them into one bin. They are now at the top of the pallet rack, glad to have them out of the way.

Wish my shop was pretty much cleaned up, I got Mustang moved over so I could get at lift but I have tons of electrical stuff on floor in a pile thats a waste of space. I'll bet there are a 100 rolls of wire at various lengths. Fittings from jobs never used and just stacked up in boxes etc. I need to retire so I can get rid of all that **** :)

Or get some racking and store it for when you retire so you don’t have to buy it again.

Off to get the recycling taken care of, I have almost an entire trailer full of paper bags now.

I haven’t touched the office, the gate is at the point where I need to use the shop to finish fabrication, one of the pushes to get it cleaned out. The pallet rack roof is high on the list, but I have more gravel showing up tomorrow so I need to finish the earth work out back. I want to try and get things out of the way this afternoon, I am currently at the Hill, the electrician is here installing some exterior lights on the front of the shop, that will be nice. I am hopeful that I can get the equipment back to the Hill the first week of December, there is a lot to do up here too. I can’t bring Clark back until the earthwork is done at the SG, that way I can put all the **** out back that needs to be out of the way. It is just one big game of Tetris and I am currently not sure if I am winning. :(

You should have listened to your dad and bought a pre manufactured gate and been done with it.

Just to clarify the reason I say it would be a bad idea, when that gate gets hit by the plow, or backed into, or whatever, I would be thrown under the bus and blamed for it in every possible way. This way if I get blamed, then I deserved it, but I suspect that the gate I am building will survive most rough treatment that we see for a tower site.

I am beat, going to move some stuff inside, been moving outside stuff most of the afternoon. I have made some progress that even I can recognize, tomorrow will show a bit more progress but I am on the hook waiting for the gravel.

This is one of my favorite threads but it kind of reminds me of college algebra - some of the vehicles, tools, projects, and sites are familiar to me but I’ll be damned if I can explain where anything is and how it all fits together.

There are also numerous requirements that must be satisfied before completing a project or solving for x…

I hope things will start making sense sooner rather than later, I really need to get some projects finished. I also know that I will overestimate how long things will take and how much each project will cost, that is not a variable. ;)

Yup - Underestimate

I feel bad for you. Your fam is much like mine. I left them by the side of the road before you were born.

This morning was annoying, the Hyster wouldn’t start, I took stage starter out and cleaned and tightened all the studs, didn’t help at all. I have the part number, but I can’t find any local ones, they are either coming from the manufacturer or I order online. I found a good deal on one, but I am trying to confirm if it is new or remanufactured. Then I need to see if they offer reasonable expedited shipping, I can drag or push the forklift out of the way with the Mitsu, but it is a pain by myself. It ***** because tomorrow is going to rain. I guess I will do what I can and then do some paperwork tomorrow.

I had found a remanufactured one for cheap, then I found they had a gear reduction option, I found that one remanufactured for a little bit more, then I found a brand new one for a little more. In the end I went with the new one for a couple reasons, they had a great price on overnight freight, and there was no core charge to lose since I was changing to a different model starter. In the end $363 for a new Hyster starter including overnight delivery seemed about as good as I was going to get.

My diesel fuel transfer tank just showed up, I am about to head out of here, this day has not been very productive, but I did get things setup for Thursday and Friday. I am not sure I will even be over here tomorrow at all, I have a lot of things to do at the Hill.
Hey man- you get more done in a few minutes at your place than I feel like I accomplish in weeks. Work keeps me away from what I want to be doing.

Have you tested your current starter to ensure it was bad?

Starter is bad, direct connection makes it move, but not much. I suspect with all the loose connections, the magic smoke has long since left the building. I thought about tearing it apart and seeing what I could do, but right now it would just take away from my mad scramble to get things done.

FarmerWill, I don’t feel like I get that much done, right now I am slacking on the office duties, so I will have to catch up a bit. Usually I can get some paperwork done in the middle of things, but the computer at the Salvage Garage is still on the fritz, another simple project :(

I know I am getting things done and I need to be less harsh, but my optimism when I plan things is rampant and wrong.
