Strouty, that missing weld maybe intentional, tube trailers don't always get welded 4 sides, the thinking is the opening allows any water that always gets in to escape without a "tube bulge" from freezing. If your welds are water tight not a problem, but most "trailer building guys" [unisex term, no really] are not certified high pressure welders so leakage happens. My latest tubular trailer parts are drilled for intentional leakage [or~ 1/4- 3/8" of missing weld on the bottom near the center of the tube joint] and for rustproofing/oil spray. Rust will happen even if seemingly dry inside. Harry
I thought that as well, but there are other tubes that were welded completely, the one that got ripped open was like that, with no rust inside. I think that the original trailer was welded on all sides, then someone added this piece for a different jack. The biggest issue is that there are all kinds of screw holes that are in the box tube, so it gets water in it and rusts where the water settles and that seems to be the tongue area, I may have to pull that apart later, for now I just want it to be usable, then we can worry about making it perfect later....
I have been cleaning up the Hyster forklift, lots of extra **** that isn't being used, then the wiring, don't get me started, I have pulled all the floor pans up to get to things. It looks bad, probably going to rewire things, I know there will be issues if I don't. I am looking up some of the parts I need now, hopefully I can get things without too much trouble. I really want to fix the E-Brake. It looks like the engine may be rebuildable in the chassis, the bottom is wide open and I know I can jack it up high enough to work under it. The transmission looks like a nightmare if it goes bad, they call it a powershift transmission, it works perfectly so far and I don't want to jinx anything.

I ordered the bulk of the parts I need, it was all really inexpensive, except the fan blade, that was half the entire order, even with that it was still only $250 for the two E-brake cables, a special clamp, the ignition switch, the fuse block cover, a switch for the grid heater, and the fan. I can live with that, next will be to figure out what in frame kit is needed for the engine. The liners were only $56 each, so I am guessing a full kit won't be terrible. I am now going home, it is later than I thought and I am tired.

Because they put it there for years before I was there. I own a bit of their front yard and their driveway crosses part of my back area (they have a right of way). I need to get the survey done and figure out exactly where things are. The house is empty mnow, but they were true hoarders.

Off to have fun today? I'm about to start the fun.
I unloaded the burb at the Hill, then grabbed the gigantic cart that is just a PITA, I was going to scrap it after stealing some salvageable parts, the main structure is the same sized tube as the trailer. I consider this a win win situation, I don't think that I am going to scrap the rest, I think I will weld it back together making a smaller heavy duty cart for a pallet or two.
I am not being very productive so far and it is cold outside so it is sucking the will to work right out of me. I am going to shoot for the minimum needed, then tomorrow when I can start earlier and it is going to be a bit warmer, I will be ready. I should be able to use the Mitsu and the IHI track crane to move most things and if Clark goes, then I can move a lot more stuff too. So far things are pretty frozen, it was in the teens last night and it is going to struggle to get into the upper 20s today, plus no sun to speak of making it feel even worse. Why do I do this to myself......

You can only go so hard for so long before your body flips you off.
Not surprised its froze tight, its cold out. Hope your stuff is starting, my old Ford Tractor didn't like last nights temps, turned over about twice before it stopped. Charger on it now. New battery in the future but would like to get plow on. Freaking cold on the hands thats for sure.
I got everything started without too much issue, no ether and no booster packs, I call that a win.
I am currently moving stuff to gain space to put all the sandy dirt. I have a good area cleared and ready for gravel, just need to move it to the new opening. My feet are frozen and my legs are close behind.

If you haven't already try some neoprene lined boots when it is this cold out and they will keep your feet warm, works for me.
I have some boots that I wear when it snows that heat my feet so much, I can’t wear socks. Unfortunately sitting makes feet freeze with almost any boot except maybe some sort of heated boots.
I got almost everything I wanted moved before dark, I am loading a Burb onto the ramp truck, then headed back to the Hill.

Sounds like a decent day so far.
I got a good coating, it kind of surprised me, there was no warning until late afternoon. It started about 9PM. It is just enough to make what I am doing annoying, I hate snow.
I have to plug Perk in, makes me feel better if I give it a little heat, the one piece of equipment that started hard yesterday was the IHI track crane, I thought it would start better, looks like I need to install an inline coolant heater, that should solve it and if it doesn't, then I will put new batteries in it too. I have way too much to do before snow really sets in.

Holy cow! That's frozen earth?Top 4” is just like concrete.
I'm from NJ and have never lived north of Interstate I-80 so I never understood everyone talking about frozen ground in December. We have had some frost heaving and such after a LONG cold snap - but never in December. You people up north have my sympathies.

You obviously didn't understand what I meant. To me it was the dead machines that would have made the job so much easier that provided the irony.
But then you jump in with your boneheaded obsession that Strouty should do things your way. If you don't like what he does why not just ignore the thread?
