That was several years ago, but I still suspect it wouldn't be that bad. I can't imagine paying $100k on a well. :(

I am at the SG and working on the Hyster, got the bolts cleaned up and starting to reassemble things.

The alternator probably wasn't bad, the previous owner just didn't know how to wire it up and I followed suit. I keep having this happen, but I don't want to reinvent the wheel on every project. We already changed the harness to match what was there, so now I have to figure things out and run new wires to get the new alternator to function. Frustration at its finest.

At least the new fan blade is installed and the engine still starts and runs....

I'm in the exact same boat with the Girlfriend, new alternator and still no charging. I'm thinking the idiot light circuit is open,so the alternator isn't seeing a load? I'm about to eat a quick bite, and then go out and see if I can resolve the many wiring issues she has.

Snap a picture of it, I may be able to help solve your problems, there are only a few styles of alternators and I have been looking at most of it.

I have the same style as you, and I'm getting 13.4v at idle and 14.5ish at high idle. I was hoping it was a charging issue. I'm wondering if it's how I have the wires routed to the starter. As far as I know, there are only 2 types of GM alternators, what you have pictured, and the 1 wire like I have on the Old Mule.

I have the case grounded directly to the batteries, then there is one 10 gauge hot going to the batteries, then I jumped the larger wire from the plug directly to the hot stud. The other wire I have not officially run, but it appears that all I need is a quick 12 volt signal, then the alternator takes over. I think I may be able to use the solenoid wire that comes from the ignition, but I need to confirm that it will stay charging without the 12 volt signal. It seemed to do just that, but I didn't run it that long as I was inside the shop. I will let you know what I figure out, might be tomorrow night, or next year.......

The wiring diagram for the Girlfriend shows the red wire for the double plug ties into the alternator output (battery voltage). The second wire goes to the idiot light. I saw about 25-30 ohms to ground on the light circuit. I can get a picture of the diagram if you want it.

I have that same alternator on my tractor. I've had issue with wiring breaking at plug, vibration I assume so I filled plug with silicone and no issues since. I have an idiot light and ammeter so I can tell what's going on. Nice to be charging again, isn't it :)

I was never charging so I wouldn’t even know. ;)

I am going to yank the ram off the Mitsu today, have to. Do a few other things while the crane is setup. The generator guy is coming around 10 and that will screw up the middle of the day for sure. Hopefully I can get things done regardless.

Chuck had another warm night, I figured out how to set the thermostat up so that it will turn down at different intervals, this way when I forget to turn it down, it will do it automatically, also did the same with the SG, just need to do this at the shop on the Hill and I won’t have to worry about that as much. I feel dumb that I hadn’t done it sooner, definitely something that has cost me some serious money, all because I didn’t take the time to learn the thermostat settings. :(

Things are escalating quickly, I have a new generator coming for the Tower site, a crew lined up for next week to get the trench dug, and now I have about 30 more things to deal with on top of all the other **** I already had to deal with........

Nope, now I have to coordinate things with the electrician, gas guy for propane, digsafe, the crew that is digging the trench, and the generator guy, plus I have to reassemble the generator that is there, so we can tow it out of the way. I am sure there is something I am missing and I am sure there will be some surprises, but this is exactly why I never seem to get anything done. I still haven't touched the Mitsu, need to get that ram off today. I have done a couple of the important office things, but now I have to go and mark out where we are digging for digsafe. Then I need to eat something, after that I can possibly get the ram off the Mitsu, but who knows what will happen next!

I feel your pain. I need to get the 2 bikes titles transfered and the plates renewed on the Girlfriend, so I've been sitting on the phone for the past hour and a half. And I still need to finish re-erecting the garage-in-a-box. I was hoping to get to the south end truss today. Yeah, about that, NOPE. Sigh.

I am supposed to have help tomorrow, so I am going to do what I can by myself, then deal with things that would be easier with two people, when I have two people. It isn't going to gain me much if I remove the ram right now or tomorrow morning.

No help tomorrow. :(

I should still be able to get some important things done. Saturday we are clearing the debris left from the trees at the bottom of the Hill, so that day is gone, Sunday afternoon may be dry, then who knows what next week will bring for weather.

I just took Buck to the Salvage Garage and then brought the army dump back to the Hill, the heat doesn’t work in either truck. I am cold and going home.

Well, today was not a very good day for productivity. I woke up around 8 AM, felt like ****, sent a couple emails, decided to go back to sleep for a bit, woke up at 3PM! I had to rush around to hit the bank and deal with the deposits before they closed. Sounds easy, except I had stuff at the Hill, then at the SG, then there are two banks. I made all the deposits before the banks closed with 7 minutes to spare. Now I am back at the SG trying to figure out what to do, the Blurb's defroster is back on the fritz once again and it is causing me grief whenever an oncoming car's headlights hit my windshield. Hopefully I can find a solution and make something work, it has to be an internal flap or something, but I am going to confirm all of this before I start cutting things open. ;)

The stupid defroster has to do with the "mode door", the one that swaps from floor to dash or to defrost. The climate head and servo motor both function like they should, the linkages to the "mode door" are both hooked up and move, but it doesn't blow **** for air out of really anywhere, like it is stuck in the middle. The climate head was a new GM one installed recently, the servo motor has not been replaced, so I can try that, but it does make everything move like it should. I am figuring the flaps inside the HVAC box are stuck or broken, I will pull the servo motor off tomorrow and see if I can manually move the linkages to change air flow, at this point I don't want to mess with it and make it worse before I get the truck back to the Hill. As far as I can tell, I would need to pull the dash to get the main HVAC box replaced, I have to decide what I want to do, it is going to be an issue. If I could get it to stay in defrost mode, I could live with that, but I suspect that it won't work out if I try and band aid it. I still plan on getting the 1/2 ton going for a DD, just need to get a few more things done and last week added about two more weeks worth of work to my already overly long list. I have crews scheduled to deal with the generator and propane tank next week, but I am the one that has to move the tank, remove the old generator and set the new one in place.

I know my body probably needed the extra sleep, but it was the worst possible timing for that to happen, I will have to make the best of things. I will be working on New Years Eve and on New Years Day for sure at this point. Only good thing is it looks like fairly warm weather for the next 7 days or so, that will help with the trenching for the propane line, it is all hand digging. :(

I do have lots of help with these projects, but it isn't like I can just let them loose, I still the one in charge, that means I will be involved for sure. The only good thing is that I will be getting rid of the 500 gallon propane tank that I had to take from the other Tower site way back when and I shouldn't have anymore real headaches when there are power outages at this site anymore. On top of that, I am getting a larger backup generator for the Hill that should run all the heating systems and the water, so if power does go out things can stay warm without huge effort on my part. Long term picture, right? It is only short term suffering, but over the long term......

Can you not go rent a mini excavator for the weekend?? A couple hundred bucks sounds a heck of a lot better than trying to hand dig....

Unless it's a short run, a rental would be to ticket to help get this done....
