It is Nice and built With pride. How mutch would it cost if snapon built it? And what quality would it be if it was made in China? I feel that quality now days is so last millennium, and worker pride is stripped from you just to produce in quantity. Today i went to a shop to get a file to resurect a Close or over 100 year old Wood saw. Awnser i got was, buy a New saw it cost under $7 . I got more rant but ill let it be for now.

All I can say is WOW!!!. I ran the formica department in a custom cabinet shop, many years ago. Compared to that guy, I'm nothing more than a wood butcher.

Thanks for posting

I think you serve a four year apprenticeship learning to sharpen the tools that enable you to do work like that
awesome!

Just watched that video the a couple days ago.. It is very impressive.

I'm not a big fan of his, but the work he does is certainly beautiful.

Very nicely done bench, especially like the cloudlift treatment on the lower stretchers. One thing folks need to remember about his bench is it's also a marketing device for him. So he's gone all out on it.

I love Japanese joinery. for nonwoodworkers they use locking joints to attach pieces that make our mortise and tennon look simple. he uses several on his project that are perfect. that bench is one of the nicest I've seen.

It was a pleasure watching the guy build that bench. I don't do wood working but it was still a great project, watching the vid.

Usually, when I look at a piece of furniture or other woodwork, I think to myself, "If I had a fully outfitted wood shop, I could do a better job."

When I look at that bench, I realize that with all the best tools in the world at my disposal, I couldn't do that.

Ryan,
Nice post, I'm a woodworker, started with my grandfather, slacked off in HS and college, probably just consider myself an expert level in the last 10 yrs, with double dovetails, etc... It's GREAT to see the craft receive some love!

Glad to see the the Samurai get time to woodwork with kids....With little ones, I'm just trying to get some sleep!..:)

He hopes. It certainly is a testament to his skill but as often as not the next generation could give a rat's ***. One thing for sure, the bench will live a hundred years or maybe two hundred years in someone's care.

It's built well enough.

Awesome Looking Workbench. I'm by no means a wood worker nor even a wood butcher. That guy is extremely talented. That bench is amazing.

Yup, an amazing video demonstrating all the skills, time, expense, tools and patience required to perform this level of expert craftsmanship.

Nicely crafted bench from a talented craftsman.

Looks more Northern European, with a Canadian vise to me.

That's great. I've always wanted to build a similar bench but life has been getting away. I even have had most of the wood I'd use (Curly Maple top and Walnut base) for about past 15 years. I bought his plans and dvd. There are a lot of features in his bench that I would love to incorporate but not sure that I'd follow his design throughout but wanted to support him for the great work and effort of putting the video together. Love watching that stuff. I also love his trestle base and sliding bench jack and might follow that part if I ever get around to building one. Just not sure about the top, I think I like an early American/English/Scandinavian design that is wider and has a traditional tool well toward back a bit better.

I agree except for the tool slots running down center of table. The trestle definitely has a far eastern feel to it, but I think it's cosmetic more than anything else.

It looks like a joiners bench to me. One used for making windows and doors.
It is a piece of art all in it's self though.

Nice, I subscribed to his YouTube channel about a year ago. The guy does great work but asks his viewers for donations and comes across as egotistical sometimes. Wish his content simply focused on woodworking like this video does.

You're probably voicing the opinion shared by many. And you are technically correct. But this might be a good time to point out that, if one desires to work at this level, he must first master basic skills. And, while he is doing this, he can be accumulating the tools necessary to layout and make the cuts.

A very fine workbench can be built without the heavy duty mortising machine he had at his disposal. And many of the fancy features of his bench won't be for everyone. But, if a lad ever hopes to realize a dream of having such skills, he has to start somewhere. If one is patient and diligent, virtually anyone with desire can learn these skills.

I'll admit, sometimes his personality can rub me the wrong way, but his passion for the work is pretty refreshing for someone fairly young.

I can also agree that the calls for donations bother me, but he does make some of his living from the channel. I don't donate, but I don't fault him for trying. When I decide to purchase a product I saw in his videos, I do go through his "store" that links to Amazon.

Bet you're a load of fun at parties. He's entertaining himself as well as many / most of his viewers / subscribers. Live a little.

Folks who like his work and quirky style should also check out the vids of Frank Howarth. That guy is all kinds of creative AND an excellent film maker too. And he's an architect in his 'day job'.

Amazing craftsmanship! The bench is remarkable, nice to see the kids out there with you. Hats off to your wife for having the patience to keep dinner warm, late nights.

I work with wood also-- a big chainsaw. Keep up the good work!

Are you kidding me? That is wood working at its finest, I watched it a couple of times. Cute kids too. It definitely inspires me to want to try to build one however it might take years and cost me my sanity. Thanks for the video.
