Well I decided to name my shop build. I figured that the Sanctum fit well as it being my retreat.

I am building a 32x28 garage for my car projects. It is in addition to my existing 24x24 garage.

I already have a 2post Rotary lift and a 7.5 Hp Easton compressor to put in it.

So far here is what I have done.

I trenched the footer and had the excess soil excavated.

Then I have set 5 courses of block. 2 courses high is where the garage entrance will be and 3 for part of the side wall. This way when I hose things down I don't have to be concerned with the side walls.

I plan on 10' side walls on top of the 3 course of block and then a rafter/cathedral ceiling. This should give me 14' of lift height.

Here is a floor plan drawing of the future layout. I will have the ability to slide a work in progress sideways for winter storage etc.

Looking good. I like the idea of tweaking the angle of the lift, I couldn't do that and still lift my pickup. (it's a 2500 HD crew cab long bed) So it's in there straight. But I still have plenty of room for another 2 vehicle. Cool build. You won't regret the extra courses of block when it comes time to use that lift....

Well, I figured it is time for an update.

Had 65+ tons of stone delivered to partially back fill the drive area and the footing. Still will have to do more but for now it works...

Yesterday, I got the sill plate bolted down and 1 of the walls mostly built. Also the trusses were delivered 1 week early, better then 1 week late :) .

Now I just have to figure out how to lift the walls. :D

Well I figured it was time for an update.

I have progress fairly well, since I am doing this all on my own. I did have help for 2 days, 1 to lift walls and 1 to set trusses. Otherwise everything else except concrete and blacktop I have done.

The garage doors should go in next week, main electrical is run and inspected. So basically I will be weather tight by the end of next week and then I can epoxy coat the floors after the doors are done.

Then it we be a matter of puttering all winter long for the inside stuff. I broke my **** the last 3 months, I need a bit of a break!

Nice place Tom.
Wish I could have gotten away with an 8" wide footer. I'm in Rochester and had to be a minimum of 14" wide when setting 8" block. What is the depth of your footer 30"?

Looks great!

Thanks for the comments guys!

dipper,
My footer depth is 42" and in solid clay, you guys in Rochester are mostly sandy lome, right? My uncle lives in Chili and he can dig 3' down and still be in prime soil!! We have like 1-2" of top soil and then hard pack clay!! That is why as an island here above Niagara Falls we haven't washed away yet! :D

How much concrete did you pour over the top of those hot water pipes that are gonna be for heating the floor?
I have about 7.5 inches. I Have a 2 post lift so I wanted at least 6" and then I decided to go a bit thicker so that If I wanted to sink a fastener to keep say a grinder in place I would have no chance of hitting the tubing. Where the lift is going to be there is no tubing.

Yup, my daughter loves to do construction work, as long as I have something for her to do continuously. If there is a break, she wanders off. She loved doing some of the roofing, the area above the breeze way. The scaffolding was at the perfect height where she could stand, align the shingles and then nail them with the nailer (while I held the gun steady).

Tom,
You'd better get going on that electrical and insulation...the winter is coming!

Looking good. I remember when my floor used to be that clean.

Well the lift up and working! Also, the electrical wiring is done, and I finally got my insulation quotes, so I can move on that. I am going to finish the gas line for the boiler unit tomorrow. Then I should be in decent shape for staying warm this winter while I finish more of the interior.

Are you talking about the pinch weld jacking points?

I personally feel safer with the lift arms furtner in on the rear crossmember, and front subrame reinforcment.

Also, how would you prevent bending the lower part of the pinch weld if lifting from there with out the special saddle that the factory jack has? When I got the car, several of the binch welds were bent and I tried a floor jack under another and noticed that it did bend a little also. So that is why I have lifted from the other points, even with a jack.

I have rubber pads that sit on top of my lift arms, so the damaging the welds isn't a problem. Without rubber pads...well, I guess that would damage the welds - you're right. I lift both the E30 and E34 that way. I was just following the instructions for the lift on how to lift those particular cars. I'm sure it's fine on the frame rails - I was just razzing you!

Hey Tom, I see you live in Grand Island NY.
I have a good friend and fellow antique radio collector that lives
there, I know it's a long shot but do you happen to know a
Jim Kreuzer?

Great build you've got going there.

cheers
