Hello, hello,
I’m in the process of revamping my shop and ran across this site while looking for ideas on building a new workbench or reworking my existing one. This place is great! I’ve found more info then I know what to do with and not only on the workbench but a bunch of other subjects I didn’t realize I need to know about. I figure since I’m already halfway though I might as well “publically” document my progress as a way to keep me motivated and gain some insight from those wiser then I. A little history about me is I’m fifty with a wife and three kids two of which are boys with endless projects that keep drawing me in and away from my own. In our younger years my wife and I have built, raced, restored and screwed up more cars, trucks and bikes then I can remember. As I’ve gotten older shop time has dwindled, seems like this last year’s shop time has been nothing but a revolving door of getting what needs done done and then moving on to the next with little clean up or even putting things away. This revamp started with adding another door to get cars in out of the weather when it’s bad. We cut out the wall and then build the door opening and put up the door from the inside as I knew we couldn’t devote enough time to get it done all at once. In fact we still need to cut the outer skin of the building to access the door. Below are some pics of where we started.

This is about where we are now. The old pool table has been nothing but a catch-all and will be discarded as soon as we’re done.

You have a nice sized shop there. I like your signs and collectables. I especially like that tall open ceiling. It appears your set up there to do about any project. Your Mobilgas Gasoline sign is a real treasure. It looks like it may be neon? Thanks for posting your garage and sharing!!

Best Regards
Herb Spencer

The outside isn't much to look at just a 30 year old galvanized building that needs a new roof. It's 30x60 with a couple of lean-to's that house tractors mowers etc. I partitioned the front off at 28 feet for the shop. The back is used for storage although we have used it for quick projects when the front has been full.
I got most of the big stuff moved where I want it. The picture below shows one wall. Theres a parts washer on the far side of the brown cabinet along with the welder cart. It's a little tighter then I like but it's the space available so I'll live with for awhile then decide if changes are needed. I appreciate all the kind comments, I had kinda forgotten about the signs as they have hung for years. Most where found at auctions, garage sales etc. I think the newest to me sign is probably 20 years old.

Wow! I need to clean more often. Ran across a couple blasts from the past today.
First is an adjustable rev control plug in module for an MSD ignition in an unopened package complete with MSD screw driver to adjust it circa early 90's.

Second is a Predator carburetor circa late 80's. Man I feel old.

Weather finally warmed up enough to cut the outside skin to make the door useful.

Hired a couple of clowns to do the heavy lifting.

also changed out the walk door as the frame was rotting at the bottom. Added a combination door lock so I dont have to keep going back to the house when I forget my keys.

Extra doors coming in handy. Tornados dropping left and right around here tonight. Another truck under a lean too in back and one more in the barn.

Had a couple tornados on the ground within 5 miles of us. Luckily didn't hit any towns and caused little damage. We did see Reid Timmer and his group from storm chasers in town. His Facebook page has a short video of one of the tornados forming.
