After 12 years, I'm finally getting around to finishing the shop. I spent the summer doing insulation and wall/ceiling coverings. I pulled a cable out through the existing conduit so now I have wifi. I bought a cheap little TV that I mostly use to stream music. Yesterday, I finally installed a mini-split so I can work year-round. I got a good deal on a Pioneer 18K BTU. I'm getting better at installing these things, as this is the 4th one I've done at our property. Although made in China, this unit seems to be better quality. The included line set had excellent flares that sealed the first time without having to redo them. I did the 'deluxe' install- I did a 24 hour pressure test at 500 psi. I triple purged it, then did a vacuum check with a micron gauge to make sure it held. All of the tools I bought have really paid off!

I've had water line in the ground since shop build in 2018, just finished getting everything hooked up about two weeks ago. Still need to caulk around the counter and sink. Maybe one of these days I will hang all my motorcycle banners and such. and work on the truck. and make some bike runs. and clean out my tool box. and.....

The bottom of it is about 9' off of the floor. It's bad enough that the heat rises anyway.

That's not a hacksaw... it's a CHAINsaw!
Ahh, ok, the picture was deceiving. I would have sworn it was like 7 feet.

The instructions on mine said no higher than 90" from the floor.
I wonder why? Fan doesn't have enough power? Doesn't cool air fall and warm air rise? At least that is what I was taught.

I have install many mini splits, more than I can count. We mounted them most anywhere dictated by the situation. I mounted one 3 feet off the floor as it was a knee wall and the rest of the area was sloped ceiling from the roof line. Guess what? It cooled the room just fine! Many times they were mounted 9-10 feet or more up a wall as there was shelving or other equipment in the way. They all worked just fine.

The installation manual specified a minimum of 6' off the ground, and at least 8" below the ceiling.
I think they consider the unit is going into a typical home with 8 foot ceilings.

When I did HVAC we did some pretty weird installs for people that needed AC is some weird situations.
