I was just wondering if I could flag him down and buy some tools. I am not a pro. Do I need an account to buy stuff from him? Does the truck have stock in it?

You should be able to get a local rep number off the website or via customer service. Shouldnt need a account unless you plan on buying on credit etc..., Most trucks carry the most popular items in popular sizes but can order just about everything. In the past i have had bad customer service via my local basically not wanting to make himself available to me, Im not demanding but its like pulling teeth to get him to stop by. It probably didnt help that last time we spoke l let him know that i had spent well over 3k with snapon.com account of his sporatic, please dont bother me behavior.

I wouldn't flag him down. with the amt of stock he has on truck it would be a good way to get robbed. I started by following the truck to a shop. You don't need an account as cash is still king.

It's not an exclusive club. Just follow he to his next stop or stop when you see him stopped at a shop and buy what you need. It's not a big deal like some people are willing to make you think. Tool man wants to make money he doesn't care.

If you know what you want you could always sign up and buy through one of the S/O dealer on here's websites. Its free shipping and it supports a GJ member. Otherwise I'd say put a call into the local distro center and they can hook you up with a local dealers #. Call first and see if he has a stop near you/where you work and what time you can meet him at one of those stops.

I waited till I saw my local snap-on dealer in a shop's parking lot, and stopped by. He's a nice guy and I left with his card and instructions to call him if I want anything, he'll let me know where he's going to stop next.

He also offered to finance a $6k+ toolbox within 5 minutes of being on the truck, but that's what they do :)

We are open to the Public. I do not like people trying to stop me going down the road. too many people out to do you wrong, but follow me to the gas station or to a shop and lets get down to business.....

Like others have said, just follow the truck to the next stop. I will sell to anyone with money.

Yes we have inventory on the truck. :D

Out here all the truck tool dealers come up in a Garmin GPS search for tools, there's an address and phone number, I didn't call or go to the addresses, but I'd recommended trying it and calling the closest Snap On listing and see.

Soon enough it you won't have to look for the truck guy, the Chinese are working on a replacement for them, "vending" type machines at different locations and the rest done through the "mail" (shipping), the truck guys will be the last to know about it.

Cool. Then I can have a vending route going around and refilling the vending machines.

Sure, at $10 bucks an hour and 20 cents a mile, you pay for vehicle and insurance.

So did you get your informaton from your girlfriends uncle who used to be the President of Snap-on who had the gold plated desert eagle with the Snap-on embossed on it?

Can you expand on this please? Like the DVD machines poping up everywhere?

Or those Apple vending machines that sell ipods and all kinds of electronics. I see those the few times the wife drags me to the shopping mall.

I already told you the gun thing was a joke but her uncle was the senior vice president of Snap on (she thought president but online it says senior vice president).

You never did tell me if you know Larry Fletcher, he started as a truck guy and then did something else with them (small Astro van with Snap On logo on it until the Village made him take it off).

But it's just speculation, my guess, if today's trends continue, Snap On will probably just be bought by the Chinese like Milwaukee and others. Whatever happens things don't look good. I see thread after thread of people buying that GearWrench **** and touting Genius tools, not a one of those could stand up to the quality US made tools, but they are cheaply priced, but there's a larger price being paid.

So is this a joke too? You seem to know a lot. You even quoted me a pay scale on the vending route.

Don't know him.

So what you are now saying is that your idea of a tool vending machine being devoloped by the Chinese is just your WAG (Wild *** Guess).

Now this article is back from 2000, and I have seen the new vending machines that have 3D virtual reality where you can "hold" the tool, rotate it, etc. Will it replace the truck guys, wouldn't surprise me, as they head more towards Chinese **** why would anyone pay that kind of money when it's readily available at Wal Mart and Sears.

The article you reference is about tool cribs at manufacturing plants. Even the pics you posted are from a MRO company.

Mobile tool trucks main market is independent automotive repair shops. If the tool trucks are in any danger of being replaced it is from the auto parts stores and their parts delivery fleets, not some virtual reality vending machine.

I know, but they are vending machines, the technology is there. As I stated I have seen the 3D virtual reality vending machines, and one of their examples was to advertise, display and sell tools. Will they replace the truck guys I doubt it.

I think the more likely scenario is that Snap on continues to bring Chinese **** into their line and either people buy it or they buy the same **** at a 1/3 the price at Wal Mart or Harbor Freight, I think the latter. But I never thought professionals would buy GearWrench.

I think Snap On is watching their competitor Danaher put out that GearWrench **** and people eating it up, filling Danaher's pockets with cash, just to save a few bucks regardless of the consequences, and I think Snap On sees plenty of dollars going Chinese. Will Snap On customers buy Chinese ****? Who knows, I certainly wouldn't.

I would guess Snap On if it continues down the same path will probably end up in trouble and be sold to the Chinese, probably both. The last thing this country needs is another reseller of Chinese tools, we already have Harbor Freight, Sears and soon Craftsman.

If selling Chinese **** works out for Snap On I can tell you with complete certainty that it won't be good for this country.

I wonder what the collecting and resale value is on those Chinese Snap On tools? 20 - 30 years from now are people going to be paying good money for used Chinese tool boxes and tools? Maybe I should save that box of Chinese stuff I have in the scrap box.

It would not surpise you but you doubt it??? What does that mean?

I am just curious, what is your industry background?

You do realize that Snap-on is a global company that sells tools, equipment and informations systems around the world. I would have to look at the latest stockholder report for an exact number but Snap-ons global sales account for a large percentage of their overall sales. I very much doubt that Snap-on would be sold to anyone. They have always maintained a very healthy balance sheet.

Napa is VERY much in the tool business and well as ABC Auto Parts. I have lost several big ticket sales to the parts houses.

That reminds me, I was looking at some online catalog/inventory system the other day, and I was surprised to see it said "Powered by Snap On Business Solutions" or something to that effect at the top of the screen. They designed the software I guess. It wasn't tool related.

I finally got to meet my driver today and get on the truck for the first time. He was really nice and it was a very worthwhile visit. He stopped by my workplace and said he was in the neighborhood about 3 days a week and we could meet up any time. I had a (green) hard handle screwdriver shaft replaced (free), got a nice ball peen hammer, a 21-22mm zero degree wrench to extend my set, and a couple of blue point items. I will be better prepared next time I see him.
He shared that the majority of his business these days is hobbyists not professional mechanics.

I don't know too many hobbyists that shell out $5284 with another $450 remaining on tools from snap on like I did this year. And no I didn't buy a box. I'm not saying its not possible, just irregular.

How much interest does SNAP ON corp charge per month on accounts ????

Inept man on Seattle Craigs list is trying to get someone to take over his KRA??? remaining balance of $3600.

Said he'd been paying $106 per month for X number of months. Said SNAP ON credit is holding the paper via his dealer.

When I asked him how much interest he was paying on the account, he didnt know what I was talking about. He was totally ignorant. He just knew he was paying $106 per month until someday when it was paid off.

Now he was going to walk away from his equity and ask somebody to take over payments on a box that was now upside down $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Dealers must love these kind of buyers !!!!!!!!!!!!

two years ago, I flagged down an SO guy ... he was actually parked at a local shop. Fast forward two years.. I've spent more than many pro's on my home tool bench! :shocking: They're more than happy to sell you a tool or a lot of em..
