Last week, I asked my brother if he wanted a Snap-On ratcheting screwdriver that I had saw in his box that he never used. I was missing the end cap and all the bits. So I got it and took it with me on the Snap-On truck and was wondering if the Snap-On man would trade me something for it. He traded me the same screwdriver but brand new in the box for the old one and $20. So I got a great deal considering I didn't pay for the old one.

More then likely if the mechanism dosent skip, he'll get a new end cap and re-sell it. Most dealers (I would think) will take trade ins and re-sell them at lower cost then a new one.

Used tools on a truck are not uncommon in my experiance.

I bought my buddy the old fashioned non-ratcheting one (like the picture on the box). Never was fan of ratcheting screwdrivers. Also bought him some extra Torx bits.

Does anyone know if Snap-On dealers will buy used tools? Or trade-ins only?

Depends on the tool & the dealer. I dealt with a guy who would buy a used tool if it was in demand for some credit. He let me trade a dial torque wrench plus some cash for a ratchet set. But they normally don't. The last dealer I dealt with did not do it.
