So added a few more items to my shelf unit from my garage sale finds yesterday. Came back an hour later and realized the shelf had taken a nasty lean towards the garage door. I have been working on cleaning off shelves this morning and finding new homes for stuff but I haven't uncovered the angle braces on the back that were supposed to prevent this from happening yet.

Time for a big garage sale!

It would certainly seem that way. My goodness that's a hell of a collection. Best of luck with the project of clearing off shelving, and stay safe. There's a tremendous amount of weight there.

Holy **** dude, that's nuts!! Just cause that label says the shelves have a 300lb rating doesn't meant the entire assembly can handle that times 5. Tell ya what, get ur **** out here to the house and I'll happily give you some pallet racking. Problem solved

Nothing wakes you up better than nearly getting crushed to death by your own ****.

Last summer I was working on putting up a new wall mounted bench and had 2 plastic saw horses I got 2nd hand and a door set up to get some stuff out of the way. I probably had 300 ish pounds on them when one broke. I nearly shat myself and was stuck on the floor holding it up, thankfully someone else was home so after yelling for a while I managed to get some help.
Next time I was in HF I noticed that they sold the same ones. Those sawhorses put the fright into harbor fright.

Nah. There is some amount of organization there and it has passable walkways, at least until the shelving collapses.

That type of shelving is precarious even with the braces. I'd never stack all of that weight on one. At the least I would stack the heaviest stuff on the lower shelves.

I was hoping to see a total collapse, with stuff strewn all over the floor!

You got off easy. Not like the 2x4 supported shelf I built with only one nail per end. That collapse was spectacular!

And I just hung some kitchen cabinets and loaded them with canned goods. I'm waiting for them to pull apart.
