The thing they don't tell you is that is probably 1260ft/lbs if you run 200psi through the gun. Just like snap ons 1170 or whatever they claim but recommended torque is ~800 lol. And then the IR has around ~780 so realistically you could probably say they all are around 750-800 ft/lbs, so pick which color you like better/can get cheapest/has a repair centre near you.

Not saying anything against the Proto it looks awesome, and I bet it feels just as good...but I really doubt those numbers considering the 3/4" IR Qimax we have at work is only rated at 1350 and hits like a damn jackhammer

oh they tell you that. those specs are at 90 psi. I run 125 psi with a milton V. its a beast.

I agree, I'll take the IR over the overpriced snap on **** any day. I have three of them and absolutely love em. Same goes for the cordless stuff. IR rules.

When a manufacture rates their gun's torque and break out it has alot to do with what kind of fastener they are using. 3/4 7/8 bolt course thread or fine thread.. What ever fastener will give them the biggest torque claim. I have an Ir 2135 tmax, I like the size weight its a good gun. It however was not able to loosen a lawn mower blade spindle nut. While being hooked up to a 80 gal 135 working psi air supply. Had to bring out its cousin the 3/4 Tmax bust it loose. I like a gun that wont wear out my hand while zipping on lugs, can fit into tight places and most importantly can change direction with the same hand.

Why don't we go ahead and recommend an Aircat, and a Chicago too, while we're at it? :p......

Ok why don't people like the aircat / nitrocat ? although no way for me to verify the torque and it can't get my axle nut off. It does most job, and spec is better than the other two snapon/IR model that others recommend.

I doubt there is much difference between the high end guns. The ir worked best for me. I have had the mg725, the aircat, but not the proto. Hard to beat the aircats value. For me it was ir

It was ir for the comfort and balance. Also the fact if you back out a bolt and jam it backwardsand get stuck, you can change direction. I have stuck a snap on and aircat this way.

I've had an MG725 for a few years. Got an IR 2135Q for the shop and like it a lot more than my snap on. Haven't found anything one will remove that the other can't but the IR is so much nicer to use. Quieter, lighter and better balanced, and a much better direction switch as well as setting switch. The snap on one *****. As others mentioned it's too easy to bump but my biggest gripe is trying to change settings. It's hard enough with bare fingers and nearly impossible with gloves.

Not the best but I've had the MAC AW5500 for about 5 years now. Always lubed it but never greased it. The other day I cleaned it out and put fresh grease in it and it's just like new. Hopefully I can get a few more years out of it. Next impact would be an AIRCAT since I normally use it on lugnuts and 3/8 on everything else.

They are all about a horse a piece. Try to get your hands on each one and buy the one you like. You want real power, get a 3/4".

I vote for the TiMax its the most powerful 1/2 and the 3/8 as well that I have owned and used in my almost 30 years of wrenching.

It's not. People don't want to believe it, but it's just not. The CAT2150, Matco MT2138, Napa 6-1122 blows the 2115timax away with 500 ft. lbs. Aircat makes a 3/8" with 700. As for 1/2" guns, there are many that are stronger than the 2135timax. CAT4150, 1200K, AW480Q, AW612Q,even the 1000M for that matter. I've used them and tested them, every day, for 6 years now. Never found a 2135timax that could match these wrenches.
Now there's two new kids on the block that are boasting 1300 torques, the Sunex SX4348, and Matco MT2769, haven't tested them yet, so I can't say. Will be testing the MT2769 next week when it arrives.

This. Has proven more powerful than mg725s and 2135 IR guns. I'm going to be picking up a mt2769 here soon just out of curiosity though.
You're right,it is, and one of my personal favorites. It's also quite a bit shorter than the other 1/2" impacts too.

I just got an MT2769, can't wait for it's arrival to see what it's all about. Hope it's not a disappointment in the end. It's going to get tested against a Nitrocat 1200K, simply because that's the strongest 1/2" I've ever tested. Seriously wondering which one comes out on top.

Stikman, Just curious, do you work for Aircat? You joined yesterday and 23 of your 25 posts are about how good Aircat is or identifying who makes what product for whom. No offense intended if you don't.

Itching to get my hands on one and test it against the 1200K Nitrocat.

It's not just about RAW POWER, it's about long lasting durability as well. And that is something aircat doesn't do well, sorry to say.

I don't think I can remember ever seeing a torque rating on a 1/2" impact that wasn't figured at 90 p.s.i. Might be some somewhere, just can't remember seeing any. Some impacts will break the rotors and hammer cages and even end off the anvil if they are run with the higher pressures for very long. They sure have the power though. Remember a guy in our shop using the shops supplied 170 psi on his 231C, he broke two rotors. I set my regulator at 120 for my stuff, didn't break anything that way.

I'll take an Aircat over anything else out there right now. I've seen all of them inside, seen the problems, the engineering, the weaknesses, what breaks . Aircat gets my vote. Use what you like, and what you think holds up best. For me it's an Aircat. I've had, used, repaired, sold, and bought ,just about every brand and model. I've fixed a whole lot of Ingersolls, not impressed in the least with Snap-On. Just personal preference, I guess.

first reply.

second reply.

every post after= discussion of these two and misc comments.

Very interesting, because neither one of those is the strongest. They are both strong and both close to one another in terms of torque.

Proto's gun is the exact same thing, only 200 bucks less than MAC's varsion.

Trident sells the proto for 250$

I thought they were exact on the outside, until I saw your side by side pictures here. Surprised to see such a different hammer cover, but then again, The Mac aw5500M, Matco MT1769A, Cornwell IR-C8000 all had different hammer covers than the Ingersoll Rand 2135ti series, which was all they were anyway.

Not boasting the top power but still in the top CP7748, never gets any mention here. 922ftlbs, 199 bucks? pretty good value. It will be my next gun.

Yeah, 1200 BBT as well. Looks like a pretty good gun. I sold one, but it was new, so I couldn't test it. Would like to get ahold of a good used one.

only $169, but also only 650 ft-lbs:sad: plus is lacking quite a few other features compared to the mac/proto one

Free Speed 7500
Max Torque 650ft-lbs
Blows/Min 1100bpm
Air Inlet 1/4"
Maximum Air Flow 5.9CFM
Weight lbs 4.63lbs

Not exactly the same...Trigger Guard, Tether Attachment...couple other little things my MAC Guy showed me...
Mechanically inside, I do believe they are the same though. If you got a MAC guy who is willing to wheel & deal, you can get the price difference much less then 200.00 between the two as well.
