The Supratruck garage

I was going to wait until the garage is complete to start a thread but figured I would go ahead and post my progress and I can always add to it later. I've titled it the Supratruck garage after my website, Supratrucks.com. Over the past few years, I've built several Toyota pickups with Supra turbo engines and the name kinda stuck. Now, on to the good stuff. Basically, it's a 24'x32' with 14' ceilings. I wanted the extra ceiling height for the lift that is coming once the concrete is poured. I chose to have a door put in the upstairs and have stairs built up to the door instead of a pull down door inside. The thought of climbing those flimsy pull downs scared me enough to spend the extra bucks. I think I made a good decision. As it stands today, it is complete except for concrete, insulation and interior wall covering, wiring, guttering, and installing the garage doors and openers. The guys building the garage for me finished what you see in eleven days. Some days they only worked 4-6 hours because of the mid-ninety heat and high humidity. All in all, I'm pretty happy with how it's turned out so far. I'll post pictures to show the day by day progress starting with day one:

Day one, footing dug and poured

Day two, block laid

Day three, four walls up

Day four, osb up

Day five, trusses

Day six, osb on the roof

Day seven, roofing and eaves

Day eight, partial wrap and more eave work

Day nine, eaves done, some vinyl and door installed

Day ten, vinyl nearly finished, front window installed, some work on rear stairs

Day eleven, carpenters are finished with their part. Now for concrete, garage doors, and all the other work that I have to do myself. I'll update as I go along.

I haven't been here to this section for a while so I thought I'd check it out- and what is the first thing I find? A super nice garage!! That is really great!! And those trees should cool it down in the summer. Really nice. But you really do have a great place. Congrats!! You should have a lot of fun spending time out there. Good luck.

Thanks. The height at the peak is approximately 24'. Rafters are 10/12 pitch.

Settled up with the builder today. As it stands, I'm still well under $10k which was my budget for getting it under roof. Wiring starts next week along with putting up the garage doors.

Looking back I wish I would have went with a larger window. Not for life safety since upstairs is only for storage but for aesthetics.

what about the grade running towards the garage? do you think you will have a problem with rain water flowing down that hill to the garage?

Plenty of lights are already on the shopping list

Rain water shouldn't be a problem, the garage is on a slope front to rear and there shouldn't be much runoff.

Not much to update this week. I did manage to get the shutters on the front window.

Finally found some time to work on the garage this week. Had the guttering installed today. Went with the large type (6"?) with commercial downspouts.
Have a friend who is in the business and he gave me a really good deal.

Pouring concrete tomorrow. Going with 5" of 4000 psi and 8" where the 2 post lift is going. Will also have a drain across the entire front of the garage since the driveway will be downhill into the garage to prevent water from entering under the doors. Have a friend in the concrete finishing business who is giving me a really good deal also.

And last but not least, floored the attic with 3/4" tongue and groove OSB. Still need to do the sides. I sold the small storage building that I had to help fund the concrete so the junk from it is in the attic now.

Why 3000 psi? You should be able to get 4000 psi for $10 more a yard. So a few hundred dollars more to have a 1000 psi more in the floor. I buy 6.6 sack 4,000 psi w/ash for $70-$75 cy but then again I am a contractor.

Concrete was poured and finished today. Turned out great. Unfortunately my main computer that I upload pictures from was dead right after a severe lightning storm this afternoon. Also knocked out my big tv and 2 of the cameras on my surveillance system. Luckily it didn't rain in on the concrete. I guess I'll be calling the insurance company tomorrow.

Got most of the ditch dug for the electrical. Had to saw a line across the driveway this morning. Been getting up at 6:30 am to work on the garage and by noon it's already too hot to be outside. Hope to have electrical finished up next week. Finally took pictures of the concrete work. Garage door guy says doors will be here in two weeks, right around the time I'll be ready to epoxy the floor and start moving in.

I would like to build something similar to this. Only with 13 foot ceilings and 9x10 garage doors. Possible stick frame the roof instead of the attic truss. Would is be to much to ask if you have a print for the garage to send it my way?

space looks great, and gives me hope for the 24ft wide garage I want to build and have a lift in.

That's what I keep expecting to see too. Funny how it the prior pic shows a sparsely populated space with 1 car and some bikes, and the next pic it's totally maxed out floor to ceiling and wall to wall.

Thanks, bought it back in February and slowly modifying it. All the trucks I built have been sold. One is in Hawaii, one in Arizona, and the other was in Florida last I heard.
