No matter how much I rearrange my equipment, I never seem to find an optimal setup, and it's never ending. Having diverse and seasonal hobbies and activities only aggravates the situation.

If you've ever played the game, you'll understand how the thread title relates to my situation.

I've decided, after some thought, my first axiom of garage organization, shall be:

"If possible, get it off the floor"

One issue is dust collection. Aside from having to trip over hoses and shop vacs, sawdust is a carcinogen. My Festool dust collector, as good as it is for my track saw, simply can't keep up to a table saw, band saw, or planer.

So this was my recent installment:

This not only eliminates two shop vacs, but by wall mounting and elevating, I was able to apply my first axiom. :)

My next issue is my pantry. It worked well at my previous residence, but it seems to be a floorspace-waster here. Also, what's a wood shop without wood? A plywood storage cart is an idea, but where to store it?

Another consideration is keeping one garage bay available for a vehicle should the need arise, so large benches, etc need to either be mobile or set up in the other bay.

I'm thinking I might re-do the pantry and do this:

I'm also thinking that if I set the roll-out shelving out a foot or two, I could hide the plywood cart in behind.

So that's where I'm at. Suggestions are welcome!

That is one nice dust collector. I know what you mean by having to rearrange everything all the time. Getting things up off of the floor is a great idea. Keep up the great work. It looks really nice.

Thanks. It's a 3Hp, and I had to upgrade my subpanel, (ran out room! :willy_nil), but it was going to be the same price as next year's 1.5 hp models. And it had the wall mount bracket instead of the portable stand. I purchased some flex hose and adapters to tide me over until I run a couple lines overhead.

Everything I cannot VERY easily lift is on wheels in my shop. I can rearrange the whole shop in minutes.

I agree with your point about wheels. In my perfect world, the only things that touch the garage floor are casters. I'm close.

Ditto on that. I have put several machines on casters that occupy the center of my little space, and being able to move them out of the way EASILY when it's time to work on my 928 is one of the biggest improvements I've made!
