the THING about my shop

I am finally starting to wrench in my shop. A bit cramped for two cars so I bump my head and *** a bit, and always knocking my noggin, but hey, it is mine. One day when I can afford to make a carport on the side of my new shop, I will park one ride there and have the whole 20x20 for one car and no knocking my noggin anymore.

Here are a couple shots of my VW Thing near my shop. Just finished what I consider my first big job in my shop since it was built a couple years back. She sat in my other garage for a while then I moved her over there and been slowly working on her brakes. Finished that up and took her for a spin. Was fun.

I'd also like to know more about your garage. Very clean/sano and your surroundings are nice also

Nice Syncro Westy and Single Cab T2! Why did those drop down side gates never make it to the main stream!

BTW - I think Sixty 4 was referring to the Schwimmwagen - crazy germans!

Wjat kind of building and siding is that? Looks great and light wieght.

It is an all steel building I had built about 2 years ago. 20x20 with 10 foot sidewall so I can one day have small mid-rise lift. I will eventually have a small office space upstairs as I had them make special 12 pitch roof which you don't see often in steel buildings. It has 6.5 foot height upstairs with a nice 8 foot wide area by 20 foot long I will has as office/fun hobby space. Just have to build stairs, etc...

These are the folks that built it for me.

Syncros are super cool. I am off to Syncro De Mayo 4 day event in Hollister in a couple weeks where 60 to 75 Syncros gather for 4x4 fun.

You can learn more about my VW addiction at my site where I have a few older pics of my Single Cab and other VWs.

Next-door neighbors' mom had a VW Thing back in the 70s...and she was hot.

Love that Type 2 as well.

The one my friend has is from WWII. It looks like a Bath tub no doors (even has a mount for oars. He is missing the prop as this goes on land or sea (well lake maybe). This car boat thing is wierd, it was his grandfathers who collected some strange cars.

Nice syncro astro!!!

The Kübelwagen and Schwimmwagen are two different vehicles. The Kübel looks more like the VW Type 181 (Thing) where as the Schwimmwagen is more the bath tub.

must be awesome... Hope u gonna have a blast!
I never used it in the dirt.
right when i got it, Fichtel&Sachs produced a 14cm lowering kit for me. As far as i know, I had one of 3 lowered Syncros across europe.
I always went over to the VW-Bus-Tuning show at the Hockenheimring. The cool thing is, u can race your Bus on the racetrack 4 an hour..
It loooks so cool, when just Vanagons are on the track!!

Over here the drop down side gates are pretty common!!

Yup - I visit Germany 1-2x a year (Oberpfalz). See those on the VWs and Mercedes Benz trucks over there all the time.

Never see them over here though (unless its on a VW of course.)

OT (Still): Roots x2: My mom is from Amberg so we visit family often. Also, my dad was stationed in Vilseck (twice), and during his first tour there he met my mom. Typical GI meets fraulein deal....

Haven't been to Fürth but Nürnberg is usually visited at least once a trip.

I must admit, after looking at your sight, you live in this surreal "Germanica" world that looks very american at first glance (Chevy Astros, Army BDUs, craftsman tools, etc.) mixed in with the typical scenery of German country side and other nick-nacks (Sprudelwasser Flasche, Bavarian style buildings, etc.). You must have an interesting background!

The only pictures I have on my computer of my 1973 Thing - only 15,000 miles (we won First Place at the church's trunk or treat!).

I still have my 1982....I think....VW Rabbit pick up truck. Been sitting in the pole barn since 1991. I have been working on it over the past few weekends to get it started again. Thinking real serious about selling it.
