The mural is outstanding. I never would have thought of it. Childhood memories are great.

I promised to update whenever there was some progress, and here You go:

Added some yellow and white to the Michelin-sign, Just some minor touch-ups to go now:

2012-09-16-455.jpg

And the labels on the pyramid. That took me a couple of hours. No marker, this is all done with paint and a tiny paintbrush. Some corrections and more text remaining, and then add shadows.
I think that since this is supposed to be behind a window, I should fade it out with a thin layer of gray when I‘m finished. I have nothing but my own opinion to support that suggestion, so I will test my theory on a clean surface first..

When I was painting this today, it struck my mind: I have a empty car shell on stands just a meter away, screaming for my TLC. And there I was, working on a wall painting. I hope my car forgives my priorities.

Subscribing to this. That mural is something else.

Small update today as well. I have done some work that barely shows.
Light gray on the service station wall, and outlined some shelves in the back of the store.

2012-09-17-461.jpg

Light gray on the pump foundation, and some bucket details. The run was actually an accident, but looked so good I had to leave it there.

2012-09-17-463.jpg

Same gray color on the left side wall. New sign on the door. The stairs have been removed for some paint.
I'm thinking that an old industrial lamp would look great on the side of the door. With a thermometer underneath.

2012-09-17-460.jpg

Finally an overview of the work so far. I will have to figure out how to do the landscape soon. Also if I am to include a car or two. Parked outside on the left side, perhaps.

I've been to Trondheim, such a beautiful town. Your artistic skills are obviously many levels greater than my own
I have to agree on the town, SpookyEng. Trondheim is beautiful, with an interesting 1000-year history. My artistic skills are better then I initially thought, but remain very limited. I will not let this get to my head :D

And the door was painted - You guessed it - green:

Time to work on the background. This has worried me a bit. I am not so confident about my skills when it comes to landscape painting. But then I just repeat to myself: It's only paint. If it doesn't work out, You just paint over.

Started by masking the previous work:

2012-09-22-507_zps0d83567d.jpg

Then I applied base color to the three main sections of the landscape: Blue sky, greenish mountains and grey for the road and concrete. This looks like ****, but its only the base. Ther will be more paint over this:

2012-09-22-509_zps5d69c2e9.jpg

Than I used the airbrush for some thin clouds and colors for the sunset:

2012-09-22-510_zpsf1ee4bc6.jpg

Finally some threes on the other side of the road. The white spot on the right is an outline of a VW-bus, parked just around the corner.

2012-09-22-511_zps4dd6995b.jpg

That sums up todays work. New day tomorrow, hope to update again soon.

Update of todays work, that has been all about landscape. So not so interesting for all You petrolheads, but bare with me ;)

Still some details and airbrushing to do, but I think it will come out ok.

And a final view of the work so far.

Timbitca: Thanks for Your interest and nice words.

reece: Thanks. I had not remembered the a-ha video until You mentioned it. It was actually very good, with drawn scenes from the 40-50th’s.

Thedoc14: Thank You for the nice words. I like the old VW’s. As you can see, the Volvo’s shape is not so different from the old split-window.

madmagnus: I think Thedoc14 means the VW in the mural. I am planning a VW-bus to be parked just behind the corner of the shop. The real car is of course a PV

Ironhorse; Thank You! I can imagine coming home from work a winter evening, the door closing behind me blocking the cold winter out, and then resting my eyes on this wall. That should be nice :)

Soon to come: what's it all about. What would a garage be without cars?
I think I want 3 cars in this mural. The VW bus I mentioned in an earlier post, and 2 cars on the left side under the big sign. All cars I have special feelings about.

I first trace with a marker until I am satisfied, then paint the base colors. Not sure what colors it will be yet. The VW-bus i'm thinking red/white. The Merc should be dark, and the Volvo I don't know yet. Some bright color maybe. Any suggestions?

What about a offwhite/beige?? Personally I like the light blue on the 140's, but I think that was only for a year or two and no PV's :)

The "midnight blue / beige" combo was used on the 445-model. That could be an option. Thanks.

This evening. Red and silver on the VW-bus:

Base colors on the MB and Volvo:

2012-09-27-530.jpg

The shine and shadows in the car paint will be a nice challenge. And so will the chrome parts. I have to read me up on how to do that. Study some Chip Foose renderings, perhaps?

New experience today. I read some tips and tricks regarding airbrush rendering of cars. So I dived into it with exitement.

First I had to find the upward facing surfaces that reflect the sky. They actually should be painted light blue, so I did:

2012-09-29-538.jpg

Then the best part. Adding gradient of color with the airbrush. It's not exactly Chip Foose quality, but concidering this is something I have never done before, I was satisfied with the result:

2012-09-29-542.jpg

The top of the Volvo is going to be white. I decided that after some troublesome mixing of paint, trying to make the correct beige.
When the 3rd mix was thrown away, i just gave up. So - white it is :p

2012-09-29-543.jpg

Tomorrow I will add details and shadows to the cars, and hopefully finish them.

Brent and nine4gmc: Thanks for the encouragement. I really appreciate it.

Didn't make todays goal of finishing the cars. But there was some progress, so a picture is mandatory.

Added shadows, painted the wheel, and detailed the windows of the Volvo. There are still a lot of details missing, but I'll get there. I also plan to label the Volvo. The empty sidepanel screams for some company name, don't You think?

Today, something entirely different then the last weeks updates.
Winter is coming soon, this morning it was well below zero. So the drainage problem had to be adressed before it was too late. I bought ACO-hexaline and some PVC-piping, and then started the work:

Started by removing the pavers, and dug a trench to the drainage point:

2012-10-06-584.jpg

Then drilled a hole through the concrete, and fitted the pipe:

2012-10-06-585.jpg

2012-10-06-586.jpg

Then filled back and compacted the gravel:

2012-10-06-591.jpg

The ACU-drain parts need to be installed on a concrete base to remain stable. So I mixed some concrete, poured and leveled it:

2012-10-06-593.jpg

2012-10-06-594.jpg

Then the Acu-drain was installed into the wet concrete. I also pulled a heat cable through the pipe to ensure that it remains open during the cold winter:

2012-10-06-596.jpg

It got a little late, so the light is not so good. But the drain is in place. So tomorrow I will finish this job by refitting the pavers. If there is time, I hope to do some work on the mural as well:

Hevy rain today, so what better to do then finish the drain? Well, I must admit that I was more tempted to work inside. But this was most important.

Refitting the pavers was not as quick as I thought. And the rain certainly did its best to stall the work.

2012-10-07-599.jpg

I also needed to cut some stones for the new setup.

2012-10-07-600.jpg

But eventually I was finished. It is always a good feeling when You finish a job, don‘t You think?
Deserve a happy-face :D

There was not much time for painting, unfortunately. But I finished the day with some details and shadows. Here‘s a couple of pictures, can You spot the difference from last time?

Very nice garage!
The painting is VERY good!!
Regards from Melhus!

Thank You, Soarer. Nice to see almost a “neighbor” here, I’m from Orkdal (to everyone else, that is a valley east of Melhus, some 20 km away).
You were right, it was a good day for testing the drainage. It worked!

Great looking garage. I realy like that drain.
Thank You, glockman. I am confident that the drainage problem is solved now. Remind me to post a picture when we come to january/february. That is the ultimate test.

Very professional work on the drain! I need to install a similar style drain across the front of my garage doors. Luckily I have a pond I can dump my water into;) Looks great!!
