this needs to be a stickyWhile searching for some good bang-for-the-buck tools, I've discovered that many of the tool truck brands can be purchased for about 1/2 price by going through their industrial brand.
I'd like to use this thread to identify some of the most common brands and tools for easy reference.
Here's my contribution so far.
Please add to the list. When we get a big enough response, I'll put together a master thread. Be sure to include an exact model number from the alternative brand.
The tool should be identical to the truck version, or at least 95% similar.

Pair of Lifting Brackets by OTC. Used with Engine Lifts, looks like 2 Chain Links. 1/2" bolts fit through it.

I bought this from Cornwell as I discovered it there and spoke with the truck guy. He earned my business. I won't waste his time. First and only truck purchase I've made in my 42 year career. Electronic Specialties Relay Tester. 12/24 Volt Diagnostic Relay Buddy Pro Test Kit.

i got it from mcmaster-carr. too lazy to return it regardless. If you got it from Amazon, send it back. Their returns are ridiculously easy.
I love the quality and now they have noontime delivery of M/C, but don't like how they do not disclose brand names, even if you ask. Some power tools and the WD-40 & Loctite or Silicone products are stated. Quality is always a safe bet there though. Lots of Williams brand sockets and such. Used to have Western Forge pliers. That is how I figured who made the Craftsman pliers.Got it yesterday and your correct. its fully mayhew branded. wish i knew that prior to ordering i coulda saved 20 or 30 bucks but it is what it is.
WilliamsWhat is the best blue point ratchet wrench set equivalent?
I order from McMaster Carr all the time, and I have never had a problem getting the brand of a tool before ordering. I did ask once if they could give me a list of all the Snap on tools they sold, and they said they didn't have anyway to do that however.I love the quality and now they have noontime delivery of M/C, but don't like how they do not disclose brand names, even if you ask. Thanks, ToolSource has the 12 pc flex head set for $172 + shipping, that's the best I've seen so far.Williams
Same product.
I bumped a 5 year old thread up for you .Does anybody know the oem for Snap on drill bits?
Williams/BluePoint/Snap-on just went through an apparent price increase. Don't overlook Zoro. It looks like they are about $220, but you can frequently get 20% off coupons (see other thread on this site) and they will ship free over $50/$75.Thanks, ToolSource has the 12 pc flex head set for $172 + shipping, that's the best I've seen so far.
You have them or just judging by the pics? I own both Mac and ebay ones and to me they look identical.
Im not sure who to believe, the guy recommending ebay garbage who has been active here for two weeks or the guy who cant spell for ****.
Ages ago (mid 1980's), back when I was a German car tech, I bought a pair of locking hose clamp pliers with the cable for the spring tension clamps that everyone hated because you couldn't reach them in "those damn German cars". They are made in France and still serve me well - same cable, positive locking etc.
Unlike friends, that have bought the horror freight or Chinese junk online "they look the same" **** that fails on the first try.
The Metal is NOT the same, the manufacturing quality is not the same. One tools is made for a one time purchase and the junk is just that.
Lol I cant type for **** (on this tiny on screen phone keyboard) Its a subtle but important difference.Im not sure who to believe, the guy recommending ebay garbage who has been active here for two weeks or the guy who cant spell for ****.
Im not talking about the obvious wear marks in the grove, im talking about the obvious defects in the casting and poor finish. Usually the reason that the cheap tools look just like the really expensive ones is because they copied them. I have an Ingersol Rand DA air sander. It looks exactly like the Harbor Freight one. The parts even interchange. But they are NOT the same. I have an SP air air ratchet. It looks exactly like certain models of Mac Tools and Matco air ratchets. It also looks just like a particular model of Harbor Freight ratchet. So are they all the same? Three of them are, Matco and Mac got them from SP Air Tools in Japan. The Harbor Freight ratchet however is a cheap knockoff. The copied it exactly. Almost. But using inferior materials and workmanship. As I said, I have both of them and I am 100% sure they are the same product. IMHO factory intentionally adds some touches to pliers going to different brands to fool people. There are red, black and blue handle covers. Handle covers of different lengths. Silver and black springs. Paint is little different. Metal is the same. That pic of pliers on ebay obviously shows pliers that's been already used on clamps.
