So I picked up a new used (old) tool cart recently and got around to giving it a good clean today. What's pictured below is what fell out of the nooks and crannies when I turned it upside down.

Now hopefully this hasn't been done already, but I ask you, what unexpected interesting, cool, or bizarre things have you found hiding in the corners of your new/used or old handed-down toolbox?

My haul. Keep in mind none of this was visible while thoroughly cleaning it upside-right: 16 hex keys (Parker-Kalon, Allen, Unbrako and some unmarked), a drill bit marked England (make obscured), couple of old zip ties, some weird little plastic clip(?), a broken saw blade, chunk of wood, 2 little ferrules, a tiny battery (hearing aid?), a German 2-Euro coin and an American "Idaho" quarter.

The cart didn't half rattle before, but that's more or less entirely gone now.

I found an 18k gold bracelet under a drawer in a CMan intermediate box I got last summer for $25. Took the bracelet to a pawn shop and got $140 for it.

Dan

Wow that definitely beats my rusty hex keys

its easier to take out the bottom drawer but yeah, nice finds! I found a bunch of ID badges, almost complete Klein socket set, check stubs from 1973, work permission form from 1949, always allens and drill bits, a snap on extension, probably way more that I can't think of atm.

Haha yeah no doubt, but the aim was actually to get the pressure washer at the underside (it was filthy). I knew there were a couple of hex keys in there (the ends of a couple of smaller ones were poking out some holes), but the ****** things just kept falling out. It's a Gedore-type cart, so they weren't just under the drawers but inside the corner box-sections.

Don't have any photos, but in a waterloo top box I took apart to paint i found a few bluepoint little tiny ignition type wrenches, and a pile of other random worthless junk. Not bad for the 20 bucks I had in the box, that was full of tools to begin with.

In a kobalt floor box (I'm calling it a floor box, because it's something like 4.5 feet tall) something was keeping the bottom drawer from closing. Pulled the drawer out and found a full can of wd40, some duct tape, and some other junk. Haven't had my mac or cm boxes apart, yet, so that'll be interesting to see what's in them.

A little different but I found a couple of British candy wrappers inside an original MGA seat I restored years ago. I decided to put them back in while I was redoing the seat.

I bought a parts cabinet on a sale for $50, and found a bank satchel of coin rolls in the bottom. 2 rolls of quarters, dimes, and nickels. Paid for everything at the auction that day.

I bought a small top box that had stuff rattling around in it at a flea market. When I got home I pulled the bottom drawer and found most of a set of Craftsman ratchetting wrenches (SAE).

One of them quit working a couple years later and I took it to Sears where they replaced it without any questions.

I bought an old wooden machinists chest at an auction (a National - not a Kennedy). Under the bottom drawer was a paper Tool Loan Order form dated 1955.

I cleaned it up and use for my "measury" things and older pliers.

Pic #1 is the form and Pic #2 is the cleaned up box next to my workbench.

While cleaning out my SO "Taco Cart" I just refurbished I found a pair of snap ring pliers, lots of crud and two used hypodermic needles. Thank god I did not stick myself!

Never found anything in a tool box but one year when I was moving out of the dorms I found a Barlow knife wedged in the desk. It's still my go-to shop knife.

You know, I had a similar thought last night - that I should stash these back in the toolbox. I'd wrap them in foam or something though so that they didn't rattle.

Very cool. Really nice chest too! Would be something to trace the old boy down.
