Here's a pic of my Studebaker hydraulic vise... it's fully hydraulic though, no screw and handle.

I picked it up a week or two ago, for $80. Original/unrestored.

That air operated Wilton was somewhat limitied. It was basically used on assembly lines for quick continuence and quick release. I might be wrong but travel was very limited with those air operated with travel maybe up to 1/4 in. and the threaded coller inside had to be removed. Nothing gives you the sense of ft. lbs. pressure as when your manually cranking that handle down.

I have the six inch version of this vise. It did not have the hydraulic booster and foot pedal. The short stroke cylinder was attached to a slightly modified Wilton style vise nut. When pressure was applied it would move the vise nut a fraction of an inch to the rear. Otherwise it works just like a normal vise with the exception of the added length of the vise and the reduction in jaw opening. Normally a 600s will open to ten inches, the hydraulic 600s is limited to a six inch opening. To most people that see it, it is just a large vise.

My father has a fully functioning one that he converted to manual operation to take advantage of the entire size of the vise.

The only other ones I have seen have also been converted whether they still had the pneumatics or not.

He can convert it back if he wants to but it is much more convenient and versatile in the manual operation.

Neat novelty though.

I'm currently reassembling a wilton air vise does anyone know of an outlet or shop that has the air booster?

Common things for certain production lines. You can get similar new vises from some industrial brand in Europe. Really not that versatile and probably the pedal would get in the way in a regular homeowner workshop.
