If any GJ people in the Greater Kansas City Area have a need for secure, dry storage for a classic car or just a vehicle they want to store in a safe location, there is a new player in town.

The Underground is a development of the Kansas City Automotive Museum and is an underground garage set up for car storage. Rather than re-type all of the details, here is a link to the web site:
https://www.kansascityautomuseum.com/underground

Some of my car club friends have already rented spots, and overall they’ve rented over 70 spaces. Plenty left.

I’m familiar with this structure and the area – there is no storm, tornado or other natural disaster that could affect this facility….other than maybe a power outage. ;) It’s awesome.

They are reaching out to local car clubs but I thought some of the GJ members might have an interest. The one photo here is a cell phone shot pre-opening.

I know where this place is - there are a ton of underground facilities in KC - this does keep them out of the weather but they will get dirty over time and I doubt there's any water under there to wash it off. Better have a car cover.

Still, $100/mo seems like a lot to me, and it's a pretty long drive if you want to take your car out for a drive....

Most of the competition starts at $125+. The website has more details, but it may not be for perfectionists - dust is everywhere. The people that I know that are storing cars there have multiple classic cars that they did not have room for at home or were paying through the nose elsewhere. It'll work for some....not for others. Pretty cool place, though. You should have seen it before they started!!

I grew up in Prairie Village and visited the "caves" 50 years ago when our Model A club met there. It's looks a lot different now but the idea is the same, a dry place to store your car. But, I remember the dust. It was an old rock quarry as I remember.
