Found this pair on craigslist last night. Probably overpaid at 140 for the pair with the stands, but I didn't have a bench grinder at all & have been watching CL & facebook like a hawk for a good long while for something old. And the only things that I had seen were a few of the Craftsman Block grinders that were all overpriced as well & one old Dayton that I passed on because it was made in Taiwan.

Both work of course, but the E33 seems like it could use a good tear down & re-lubrication. Ultimately though they are both going to get torn down & cleaned then repainted. Will probably end up selling the e33 since I only need one. And put a belt sander on the end of the e7 thats missing the cover.

How do you tell? I see it doesn't have anything punched in after the e-33 like the other two above mine.

I am fairly certain that its the number in the serial number. Making yours a 1976... Or more dramatically... 43 years old & complete making it even more impressive.

Picked up this earlier...for $5 😲 :eyecrazy:

Didn't see mention here about anyone servicing the bearings. Are you guys running original bearings, replacement, or are they greasable?

Are yours noisy? I've had several wissota grinders but luckily no bearing issues.

Not really but at 40ish years old the grease can't be doing much anymore so if they're seeviceable I'd like to take care of them before they wear so they'll last another 40

Here's mine I picked up for $20 on Kijiji. A little cutting/welding/sandblasting and some paint and it's a nice little unit on wheels for my small garage.

Picked up this nice little E16 earlier this week... Appears to be complete with original wheels. It runs smoothly, just needs the wheels dressed.

Short video of startup and coast:

Scored this E -8 yesterday. Had to have a relative pick it up for me but in perfect working order.

Will compliment my 6” nicely

Does anyone know where I can get the old school rosemary paint. I was thinking of getting Rusto hammered oatmeal spray paint but can only find it in a pack of six cans.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ohh. My grinder is a W7 made in 1964

Chose a very good time to browse on Kijiji and picked up this excellent E6 for C$40 today:

It'll look even better when I remove the layer of dust. It runs silky smooth.

I've replaced the 36 grit wheel with a new CBN 160 grit - and it matches the paint job beautifully!

The base and the motor end bells are alloy, the motor casing is cast iron or steel, the wheel guards are sheet steel.

Does anybody need any parts from an E33 6” grinder?

The rotor and outer shafts are shot but I salvaged what I could.

Both wheel gaurds and covers (cast iron version) as well as the cast base.

I have an old Wissota 1/4 hp. It was being thrown out by a shop I worked at about a 15 years ago, because the guards were missing. The new grinder we got to replace it was never even half as smooth.

Cool. What does one of those cost?

There must be a lot more demand for them than what I imagine if they can stay in business with just those. Are there cheap Chinese units like everything else?

Very cool. First time I ever seen cast guards on a 6-inch model.

Here's my regular user running with lights on. Groove on right is from use sharpening TIG tungsten. I noticed an earlier post with the same model asking about the "L" suffix meaning and didn't see an explanation. What does it mean? If I missed the explanation, sorry.

1100$
The issue with using it is you need to understand and have the feel.
The current crop of skate sharpeners is you place skate in holder and press button and it does it's thing.
The issue I have with it is getting the 1/4 inch radius is a pain. I was going to check with impure hockey if they can do a 3/16 radius.

My guess would be the lights. They have a wierd connection to a tapped winding to lower the voltage for the automotive style bulbs.

Here is a picture of my CL find. I've been looking for a quality 8" for quite some time. Not as pretty as most of the other postings but it works great. I really like those illuminated models. What can you tell me about it? E-8 PS 3/4HP. The rest of the label is pretty obscured. Obviously fabricated tool rests. Remaining shield looks original. The quench tray bolts on, not integral. Very heavy, cast iron. Must have come out of some factory with the name "PARK". All kinds of markings to that effect on it. Perhaps Park Tool? They are here in Minneapolis.

As another said, they're over $1100 now. That includes the skate holder, etc.... everything you need pretty much. Pricey, but with 3 boys playing hockey for many years, it's paid for itself a few times over. I do their teammates as well and charge $5, which I then donate back to their club.

There is an art to it, but it's not rocket science. Like everything, lots of "how to" videos on YouTube.

There are a few competitors of this type with imported parts (motors primarily), but they're not any cheaper.

As the other poster said, a newer type is out there that requires much less skill, made in China, and a little cheaper. Stick the skate in and hit a button. Looks like a computer printer.... and built like one (plastic / electronics).... they have their selling points, but they're basically disposable. The Wissota will last forever, and has great resale because of it.

I've always wondered about their business model as well. Design is as old as the hills, so no R&D costs, but have wondered how many units they sell every year to keep it a going concern.

I just picked up this 1/3 Wissota grinder and I'm going to toss the sheilds in drawer but would gladly ship to one of you if you pay shipping if any of you are looking for some. you'll probably need new glass or plexi, but the frame should fit your Wissota.

I haven't taken a real close look at the attachment that is maybe a drill bit sharpener. anybody know what it is?

EX: thanks for the information and the link. i probably will still use a wet (or is it whet) stone for my chisels, but I do have a few beaters I can use with this attachment maybe on my block grinder.

have you worked on a Wissota? anything special about working on it if I need to?

at this point I haven't even plugged it in cause I bought it with a car load of old saws and other stuff, but guessing it works cause the seller didn't say anything about it not working.

ALL: I mentioned giving the shields to a member in another thread if they PM'd me cause I won't need them and they have been spoken for now.

Drives,
I currently have 2 Wissota-made grinders (one badged Blue-Point, and one badged as Bosch), and neither needed bearings or anything significant. In fact, I've owned at least 4 or 5 others, and none required a break down of the motor housing so I don't really know how hard they would be to take apart. Your Wissota is a very early model, dated 1963, but not among the very first as yours has an integral quench tray. I'm sure it will make a great setup for sharpening. Congrats!
