Well, it seems like I'm not the only one having this kind of trouble. I emailed their home office, I included a link to this thread because they need to know how their customers are being treated. Here's what I wrote:

To whom it may concern.
Yesterday I tried to return two broken Husky screwdrivers at the Yulee, FL Home depot. I was told that since they no longer carry that particular style of screwdriver, they will not replace mine. I was then told to return the entire set. They do not carry the set either. So, I was told I would receive a refund if I still have a receipt, otherwise I would be out of luck. That's not what the Husky warranty says.

From your own website:
"If your Husky hand tool ever fails, bring it back and we will replace it for free."

Apparently it's not that simple. Also, others are having similar issues. See my post at the Garage Journal tool forum:

I was treated quite poorly by one of the employees at the Yulee Home Depot. The man acted like I was just a pain in the ***. I don't appreciate being treated that way.

Anyway, I'm always polite to everyone I deal with, with rare exceptions. One time I tried to get a broken Craftsman socket replaced at a K-Mart (big mistake) and the manager told me that I clearly abused my tools and he would not replace it. That pissed me off. So I took it to Sears five minutes later and they said "here you go sir, have a nice day."

The problem is the closest Home Depot in my area is 25 miles away, the others are about 50 miles. Lowes did the same thing to me one time, I talked to the manager and he assured me that I would never have any trouble getting a tool replaced at his store. He has remained true to his word, it's been a pleasant experience ever since then.

I'll keep y'all updated on this.

Go one step further and handwrite a note to a named person with instructions on what you'd like them to do (gotta really dumb it down for them).

Dear Mr. Smith,
I've been a long time customer of the Yulee HD and have had many years of pleasant experiences (we often say HD is like an adult toy store and look forward to making the trip in to town to shop there). We also really appreciate the community involvement of the local store. Which is why I felt compelled to write you this note about a less than satisfactory experience I recently had.

I purchased xyz product and haven't been satisfied. What makes this somewhat challenging is the product I purchased was part of a set of tools and the one tool in the set is no longer available (that probably contributed to the HD employees decision to not replace my xyz product with the abc product) My issue is this...I'm not satisfied with my HD purchase and would like your help.

Rather than replace the entire set of tools I'd like to see if you can replace just my xyz product with the abc product. I feel it is a sensible request given the strong lifetime warranty that HD and Husky provide. That would help me a lot.

With Regards,
Joe Blow

Took my 5year old 3/8 in ratchet in for replacment today, it was locking up/ slipping and giving me trouble on direction change. I forgot to see where it was made. (I'm 75% it was usa) Girl at the counter sends me to get a new one, I find one with the exact same part number in less than minutes. No old / new reciept was needed or given. new ratchet is made in china. Glad I didn't have to wait for it in the mail. I'm still lot's more comfortable at Sears tho.
