The coil might not be bad. These aftermarket electronic ignitions can be very picky. I have put a few in Pontiac V8's and had to purchase the matching coil. Some of these kits even recommend a certain size plug wire along with of course a wider gap on the new plugs.

I was actually wondering about that same thing, but really couldn't find much information on it while searching the interwebs yesterday. So out of curiosity I ordered another traditional style coil and will see how it works and report back.

In other news the title has arrived back with me now, only 6 weeks since taking delivery of the Mustang. I won't be able to get it tagged until next Friday when I'm off of work when they are open. The fun part will be getting the VIN corrected on the title, the second digit is a 1 on the title but a T on the car. I don't anticipate any problems but you never know about these things.

Not really any shop progress this weekend, I went to the Texas Carnado Gambler 500 event down in SE Oklahoma taking the '02 Ford Escape I "traded" for during the key swap event. I opted to drive it down there, sleep in the back on an air matress, drive the event, then home. It all started off looking like a great day, warm weather and slightly overcast:
IMG_6017.JPG

We stopped at a place we called 3 sticks, a beautiful overlook but had a ton of trash, in that one stop I think we filled about every vehicle with bags of someone's waste they'd thrown out including a bathtub, cooler, and 8 or so semi tires. Next we went down a portion of the K trail, about 10-12 miles long, it was pretty easy going at first but got worse and worse, eventually I broke the CV axle:
IMG_6021.JPG

I got towed the last 1/2 mile of trail then back to camp, called around and could get a new axle at noon on Sunday about 30 miles away. Others in the group helped me with a 1/2" impact I neglected to bring and a huge prybar to pop the retaining ring loose all before dark Saturday:
IMG_6022.JPG

Once picking up the new axle I was back to driving it about 20 minutes later. For that I was given one of the trophies, the most broke award (Sorry for the terrible photo):

Lastly I got a new pair of socks a buddy sent me:

Ya'll have a good one.

Love the socks

Love it!

nice socks sir.

Haha I'm glad I posted the socks, I debated on it but I guess they are a hit. If anyone wants a pair here is the link: Clutch Gas Socks (Black)

@zanyad I'm also pretty happy it worked out as well as it did, my backup plan was to hitch a ride with someone going near my house on their way back and trailering it back next week. I was not looking forward to that because it would have been a 12 hour ordeal by the time it was all said and done.

I was off last Friday and needed to get the '66 Mustang licensed and registration paid, I also had to update the registration for the cobra. Side note, Oklahoma now allows for 2 year registrations vs 1 year before. They also will allow you to change the registration date to whatever month you want so they can all be done at once vs spread throughout the year. However, in typical government run programs I can't just do them all now I have to wait until the registration is due and it must be done in person vs online. So I'll keep working on that all year.

Anyway the title issues continue, I think I mentioned the second digit on the title was incorrect, it was a 1 instead of a T, I was told to try to get Arkansas to fix it before Oklahoma would try to do anything. Ugh... So I gave it a quick bath and vacuum:

Not bad for a 58 year old car. The only issue that popped up is the drivers side front drum is still acting up and on one hard stop from 65 mph (105 kph) it was smoking, not good. I took it easy after that and did a lot more downshifting until I made it home. Lastly with the overdrive trans and 2.80:1 rear gears I can't drive in 5th gear unless I'm over 60 but 65 is the sweet spot at 1,600 RPM.

In other news my friend with the red and black '68 Mustang I've shown on here before came down and brought some friends along with a few boom sticks some were quite rapid ;) this was the result:
IMG_6036.JPG
My best guess is between the 5 of us we went through just shy of 1,000, mostly .223, some 9mm, and a couple of boxes of .308 for good measure. I now need to bring in more dirt for my backstop, it took a beating.

JB, Florida started doing the 2-year thing a few years ago. Florida also synchronizes our driver license and registrations to our birthdays. Of course my "CONCEALED WEAPON OR FIREARM LICENSE" dates are totally random. Problem solved last year by no longer requiring a license for concealed carry in Florida. Mine should be useful as 'photo ID' until it expires next year.

They aren't making you synchronize everything, but I'm opting to do that for my birthday month which is when my license will expire in a few years. This way I'll know early Feb. to look at all the tags and my license to ensure they are up to date. To add to the confusion though if I buy a new to me vehicle some other month but Feb. and I don't transfer a plate from something I've sold I have to register it that month the first year, but the next time I can roll it forward or backward to Feb. Clear as mud? At least I'll be less likely to mess something up having them all due at the same time.

It's surprising to hear that there are places that don't base renewals on your birthday. It's been that way here for as long as I can remember. Plate renewals, driver's license, and other provincial ID renewals are all based on your birthday.
Jollygreengiant,
I personally prefer to have it all done at once, all tag renewals, drivers license, and personalized tag renewals will as of next year for me at least all be done in Feb. Less chance I'll mess something up by missing it this way, but that will be one hefty bill registering 9 vehicles for 2 years at a time.

All,
I spent the weekend working on a lot of odds and ends and getting vehicle out for a drive. I repaired some of the wiring connectors on the Ion Redline from where the throttle body harness had been extended. I then re-wired the electric choke on the Mustang, unfortunately when I wired it in initially I inadvertently connected it to a live hot wire rather than a key on hot wire, 5 minute fix but completed now. I also took the cobra for it's first drive of the year taking it to the parts store to get a new battery for Grandpa's red truck, then took that truck for a drive for the first time since last summer. Also drove it to take the Viper out for its first drive of the year. Returning home I fixed a broken weld on one of the rear sliding doors, put hay out for the cows and horses, and worked on another knife that Andy (@oldironfarmer) made from some sucker rod a couple years ago.

Sadly I took no photos because everything seemed so minor but I really enjoyed the nice spring feeling weather we had.

Still lots of tinkering going on around the Warthog Hidey Hole, I'm slowly preparing the cobra for a drag and drive event in late April, the first order of business was to install new 5 point harnesses, sadly the first one I ordered didn't have long enough shoulder straps:
IMG_6064.JPG

New one test fit last night, much better fit. I also have had trouble finding rear tires for the car so when some became available I snatched them up, Cat was in the shop with me and was impressed with how big they were and she bet she could fit inside them:
IMG_6051.JPG

She wouldn't let me roll her around though. I took the Viper to cars and coffee in OKC Saturday and the cobra to cars and Coffee locally on Sunday, but failed on the photo front, only this one at the OKC Car Show at the fair grounds:
IMG_6062.JPG

I was surprised to walk out to the pasture and see we have two new calves, the gray calf is from Oreo the black and white cow, I haven't named him yet. The little red calf is from the red/white Cow Dannie, I haven't been able to find out if that one is a he or she yet:
IMG_6065.JPG

Also a buddy sent me this morning and it was too cool not to share, I'm getting ideas for stickers now:

For years now, well really since I acquired the cobra 14 years ago I've always hated the GT steering wheel, it was a little too small at 13" (330mm) and just didn't fit the look of the car. Photo for reference:
IMG_6077.JPG

However in the past when looking to replace it with the "correct" Moto Lita
I couldn't pull the trigger, for one they are NOT cheap and two they all had some sort of a 6+ bolt pattern whereas mine was a single stud and splines. I didn't want to have to figure out adaptors so I just lived with it. That is until I started driving the '66 Mustang and disliked that wheel too, it is a good diameter but just too thin. Looking for wheels for it I discovered it used the same splined shaft as the cobra. Ding Ding Ding Winner Winner, I ordered one for a '66 Mustang Cobra and figured worst case I could use it on that car if it didn't work for the cobra. It arrived yesterday and it worked great:
IMG_6078.JPG

Much improved look and it was only a 1 drink job.

Last weekend I wasn't able to do a ton around the shop as I was going to get my latest purchase. Let me introduce you to Goostavo:
IMG_6082.JPG

2001 Mercury Grand Marquis, soon to have an oil leak fixed, bumpers trimmed, suspension and body lift, skid plates, bigger tires, push bar, spot light, and much more. Well that is the plan at least, I have a few other things taking priority for now though.

I did go ahead and order the hood decal, some of you may remember it from last week:
IMG_6075.JPG

It didn't make much sense to order just one so two of them are on the way 30"x30" (760mmx760mm). Now back to making good financial decision...

I spent a little time this past weekend working on the DD, the CV axles have started to click on occasion and once I figured out that was the problem I ordered new ones, it was a surprisingly easy install, it took all of about 30 minutes from pulling it into the shop to pulling it out:
IMG_6117.JPG

New in and old out. I also have a new wide band O2 sensor for the pillar gauge so attempted to install that only to realize the one I bought was for the "new" design that has been out at least 5 years since I installed one in the S10, so now I have a second spare for the cobra.

Also the place I store the Viper is having a big multi family yard sale, I wanted to bring it home during the sale only to look at the extended forecast and see rain, cover purchased to help keep prying eyes to a minimum. Well it turns out the "custom fitted" cover I bought was anything but, yes I tried to install it every possible way with the mirrors in the cover and it wouldn't fit well at all so I just pulled them out:
IMG_6115.JPG
Stealthy haha A friend suggested I should have put on a full size truck non-fitted cover to disguise it a little more.

Other than that it was cleaning up sticks from the yard and pasture, a little burning, and the first mow of the season. I have the sprayer set up but it was just too windy this weekend, I may have to do it during the week if the weather cooperates.

I now have to tell on myself and an occasional habit of procrastination. A few years ago my mother dropped off 3 of these chairs for me to strip and repaint. They were either my grandparents, or great grandparents, I can't recall for certain. Being that they were made in the lead paint era I opted to use a twisted wire brush to do most of the heavy lifting while wearing a respirator and safety glasses outside on a very windy day:IMG_6124.JPG

As you can see I had to remove a few coats of paint, here it is after stripping the majority but before disassembly:
IMG_6125.JPG

It is now disassembled and bead blasted awaiting paint. As usual I expected it to be a 2-3 hour job and I'm not 8 or so hours in. Also Sunday afternoon the wind slowed down so I took the opportunity to spray the yard for weeds, I'd still like to spray the pasture, but may not make it this year due to many circumstances.

Keep Moving Forward,

JB

Well the chair is done now, a few coats of paint and careful reassembly and these are the results:
IMG_6155.JPG

My "new" truck is the blue '14 Silverado 1500 LTZ with the max tow package, the tires it had when I bought it were not quite rated for the towing capability as well they were aged out and in need of replacement. A previous owner had replaced the 18's it came with from the factory to 17's, I don't really have a preference so I stuck with the 17's but upsized the tires by 10mm (.4") in width and diameter. I also opted to go with an all weather tire that should be better in the snow and a little more aggressive, I settled on the BFG KO2's as the old reliable. Getting them mounted:
IMG_6157.JPG

Before:
IMG_6156.JPG

After:
IMG_6158.JPG

Also I hit a milestone in the turbo Ion Redline yesterday:
IMG_6160.JPG

IMG_6161.JPG

Sadly I didn't notice the photo was out of focus until I was already over 200,000, so it'll have to do. As a side note I also happened to hit some road work just as it ticked over thus the drop from 75 to 65.

i though it was because of all the booost!
Haha, The boost is fun from time to time, it'd be a lot more fun with boost on a bigger V8 though.

JB, we have a 2 person glider that matches your chair on our front porch.
This is the 3rd chair I've redone for my parents, another red and one yellow. I saw at Atwoods they sell them now very similar to this one.

Nice job on the chair! Ever since I saw someone restore one of those in yellow with red stripes like the Shell logo, I have kept my eye open for a candidate to add to my barn porch - so far, no luck.

I was a little off on what I remembered seeing at Atwoods, they have a similar style, but not the shell style back. Here is a link just in case: Atwoods Chair

I do like them and they are comfortable for short periods of time.

Checkin back in after forever, JB. Chair and "new" truck look great
On top speed topic, I get a laugh out of people telling 'old' stories of going 150+ in 60/70s muscle with non OD trans and rear end gears that couldn't even do it, or suspension control to sustain the speed. No point in arguing.
When I was 18 my dad and I got our 1969 mustang on the road. Full resto, new everything. 351, Top loader, 3.50. At 100, you needed both hands and both lanes, and that was almost 5k in 4th. In comparison, my 87 mustang with suspension work and rated tires would bury the 140 speedo and sustain that speed in control for distances longer than I ever should have driven.
Now old, I try to avoid such activities but still do shorts bursts of triple digits often enough. :)
Back when the old cars weren't that old, my cousin had a '68 Mustang GT. We swapped a 610" Boss-429 he got from a tractor puller. Didn't really need a transmission with that one, but the toploader was fun. However, under full go the front end was so high and got so light at around 100 that's all we ever took it to, momentarily. College for me was 110 miles away on deserted 2-lane state highways. I wasn't working that year so money for gas was tight. I put a 2.73 rear in my '66 Chevelle and after putting a piece of 6' wide flat at a 45 degree angle under the front bumper, the car got extremely stable at 120+. With some 60 mile of open road, I'd let her eat and get home quick, but a roommate had me beat. He had a '69 SS396/375HP and was 350 miles from home in South Dakota, For school, the M-22 came out and was replaced with a Saginaw 4-speed with an overdrive from a Saginaw 3-speed stuck on it, and the same 2.73 rear. We added the front spoiler to his car and immediately it became a joy to drive at speed. While acceleration wasn't it's forte, he would blow away my Powerglide equipped SBC. Both cars were heavily modded and would pull 6000 RPM which is crazy fast on farm store tires, but we had much less worries back in the early 1970's!
