Going thru a divorce is never nice even if it runs quick & smooth but in the end most people realise it was for the better and live a happier life.

I'm back at it now after taking a week off and enjoying time with my daughters, it was a great time other than we felt under the weather for a bit of it. I hope yours was great too.
2025 will be another great year, I'm looking forward to it as well. Hard work is just part of it, there is no time to screw around when so much needs to be done. I look forward to our chats in the future, I hope you have a wonderful 2025 as well.
Thank you very much, it is going to be a wonderful 2025 for sure. The divorce does **** but I know it is for the best and I'll be much happier and will have a better life because of it even if I do have to start over a bit.

The divorce is for the best, I am much happier now. Thank you for checking in, it is still an ongoing court battle as seems to happen all to often.
On that front I suppose I can give a few updates. I left my job with HF Sinclair and returned to Phillips 66 in northern Oklahoma so I can be closer to my children and their events. I purchased a home very close to work so my commuting time is under 5 minutes now. We have gone back to court many times and the divorce decree is still not signed, the next court date is April 14th, fingers crossed it'll be done that day, a mere 2 years since it started.
I'll post some photos and start a new thread once I'm officially divorced but not being very public about things for the time being.

I have been trying to keep up with others on here but not everyone's threads sadly. Once it is over I'll update on projects I have tinkered with but haven't made much progress in the last 2 years.

It is nice to be back in a house again, living in a 700 ft^2 apartment is not something I enjoyed at all. The new house is quite old but MUCH bigger especially when I'm there alone.
In other news I did keep the cobra and Viper, but almost everything else was sold including most everything in the shop but a couple of tool boxes. I have slowly over the last bit of time been rebuilding my tool stash and working on bigger things again.

Thanks for checking in, things are looking up. I'm pretty settled in the house now, it has been a chore keeping up with the lawn between all the rains and storms this summer. Biggest news is the divorce is finalized, done and done. It was a pretty big financial hit and I'll be paying for it for a while so not much money for anything fun, just necessities for the next 4 years and 2 months.
I appreciate the check, things are looking much better now, staying busy and relaxing a bit.
I have been pretty steady working close to 40 hours a week for the most part. I will have a bunch of extra hours this fall, but it is expected in my line of work.
I'll start a new thread at some point and link it here.

Like they say... divorces are so expensive because they are worth it. I was bitter for a while. Then it was pleasant. Then it got bad again. I got full custody of my daughter and she just turned 18 and I'm so grateful she was able to come be with me (for her sake)
It'll be tough... awkward... just always be the bigger man. Don't trash the mother in front of the kids. My daughter recently said the biggest thing with me was that I never attacked her mom or talked bad about her.

I completely agree there, both being worth it, and being the bigger man. It is tough and I'm still in the bitter stage, but working through it one day at a time. The biggest positive that came out of this is I have dedicated time with my daughters and get to make memories I wouldn't have had the chance to before. I have a good relationship with them and we communicate okay, they are both basically teenagers now so I know it isn't always sunshine and rainbows.
It has already been almost a year of paying alimony and just like paying the house off the ex now lives in, it is just one payment at a time and it'll be paid off eventually. That will be nice to have that rather large chunk of change back in my pocket every month. Both child support and alimony are more than my mortgage payment on a nice house. I'll have to share the house with ya'll when I get a bit of time, it is pretty cool.That time will go by faster than what you'd think. Glad you're doing well!

A little range therapy is always good for the mind and soul. I took my first roadtrip with car friends a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it, but wow premium gas in Illinois was painful. I went from high $4 range here to $6.09/gal on my first tank there.Maybe take some of those firearms and go make some noise?

Glad to hear that you (#1) got out with good friends and that (#2) you had a great time. I really like road trips too! 
It was a great trip, I took the Viper and really enjoyed the roof and AC. Now when stuck in traffic getting into some of the events for nearly an hour the AC can't overcome the V10 heat so it was windows down. After the last stop in Tulsa everyone came to my house including my daughters and girlfriend so 10 people in my house. Luckily I have room in my new house but that is still a lot of people.

Well here goes, as mentioned before I moved back to Oklahoma to be in the same town where my daughters go to school. I had to wait until my contract was up in the Wichita area and find a job. Funny enough I have my old job back, but only half of it so I am back to a mostly normal schedule. In the hunt for a house I initially was only interested in homes with a 3 car garage and/or a shop. I quickly discovered they were all out of my price range for the time being. Between child support and support alimony I was only left with about what a 2 bedroom apartment in Wichita for rent. I eventually reduced my search to houses with even a 1 car as long as it was a 3/2 so each of my daughters could have their own rooms and I'd have at least a place to put my tool and really wanted room to build a shop in the future.
I found this which I'd initially dismissed because of the single garage that looked tiny in the photos, but that was mostly because the house is much bigger than I realized. So here it is:
4/2.5, 2,700 ft^2 built in 1923 (more on the history in a later post). Most old homes I've seen have been beat on and in very rough shape from years of living. This home however was in much better condition than I expected with mostly just age not neglect. Another view showing something I really liked, outside of the master bedroom are two rooftop pools (actually balconies, but I call them pools):

The formal dining room fully lined with walnut, I did make a deal to buy the table and buffet as well:
The bit reason I decided to go forward with this home specifically was location, 1.2 miles from my parking lot at work, and room in the back yard for a future shop:
The back lots total 75' x 140', I have a total of .5 acres, a shop will eventually be going up there in the future, but I have other life priorities and obligations for the time being.

Thank you Mike, it was in much better shape in person than I expected being over 100 years old. It definitely needs some updated and corrections but luckily nothing major I can't work on over time.

So the history of this place is pretty cool as well, it was contracted to be built by George Miller. George was one of 3 Miller brothers that were all promoted to colonel by the governor, they owned and operated the 101 Ranch, a 110,000 acre ranch that had a traveling rodeo called the 101 Ranch Wild West Show. They traveled across the US and Europe to perform, the original show went bankrupt in the great depression but was revitalized the the 101 Ranch Rodeo occurring every year here in town.
As the story goes George decided to have a house built in this location, he picked it out of a catalog and went to Europe to tour with the show. When he returned in 1923 he discovered they had built the wrong house, the builder ordered and built the house on the opposite page of the catalog.
He never actually lived in the house from what I've read, his nephew and his wife moved in, they were the first residents. The home is on the National Register of Historic Places and I have the original document awarding that to the home.The house sits on 3 lots, the empty 3 lots at the back of the property are not part of the registry of historic places so I'll be able to build on them. This is good, but sadly the city has a limit on supplemental structure sizing and I'm limited to 800 ft^2. I'm looking at some potential ways to work around this so I can have a bigger shop space, but that will come in time.
For now I'm focusing on the home trying to get it "done" for the time being and working on the lilac hedge row and flower beds, it is a lot more work than I expected. Since moving in I've purchased used lawn equipment usually not running to repair and have to keep the yard in order. More on that later, I need to start a new thread for this property as it has basically nothing to do with the current thread other than me and the Warthog (cobra) which is another long story. I do still have the car so no worries there.

I cringe to think what a roof would cost on that house with all those peaks and valleys but it does seem to have been extremely well taken care of, congratulations on the purchase.
I would have to say you didn't find that home, it found you and it will soon find out how fortunate it is to have done so. From what you've posted here in the past, I suspect you'll maintain an unmatched balance of preservation and modernization while continuing to keep its charm and character. Shocking how few people have much vision for an older home like that. Looking forward to your updates and latest book of life.

Stunning place inside and out, hope you get to build a workshop big enough for your needs on it.

The roof was replaced at the same time as both HVAC systems, all windows are now double pane, and the fuse box was replaced with a breaker box. All in 2007so they are pretty good but certainly aging a bit. The roof was built with 50 year architectural shingles and according to the home inspector only looked to be about 5 years old. Because of the age of the roof it made getting insurance a bit of a challenge so I did get a quote to replace it for negotiation purposes, drum roll....$23,000.
This house is one that will likely outlast my lifetime so it isn't so much my home as I'm just the caretaker for the time being. I'll try to get some photos of a least the living room as it is pretty well how I want for now.
I am ready to get rid of it, it still works but is no use to me and gets in the way. The gear rail is custom to this place but the chair from what I've heard is pretty pricy when new.

I have two main options right now, one is build the 800 ft^2 shop with two covered parking pads on the ends of the same dimensions. Then later on close them off slowly after the building permit is closed. Option two is build as big as I want and have a small living space in a loft, so 1 bed apartment with 6 car garage.
The final option would be to separate the lots and build the above apartment as its own house I could Air BNB.
Not really a great option, build it and pay the fine for building without a permit. Not recommended.

Guessing there are setback rules? How does the big garage with airbnb work to get around them; is it then considered an ADU? Would you have to finish the rental portion right away or just protect the design and build a dedicated entrance to show final intent to meet the plans?
When I built my 34x46, the truss company asked what kind of truss I wanted, standard or bonus room. The bonus room on a 9/12 pitch gave an 8' ceiling with 16' if width the entire 46' depth of the building for a grand total of.....
$275 ($12.50 ea.) more than the standard truss. This was in June 2020 when a 2x4x8 has risen from $1.67ea. to $8.95ea.! Needless to say, I have an unplanned 700 sq. ft. bonus room that will become a rental apartment at some point.

Is that a second level pool or am I losing my mind?
I don't even swim for fitness, but I would 1000% make that my priority if that were my new bachelor pad. There are random hook-on pumps that can turn a pool that size into a swim-mill.
