Did a MAJOR CLEAN UP, that now needs to be done again.

I had a hail of a good time doing that, maybe same time next year:

That led to lots and lots of cleaning and repair work, which led to more of the same, and just to change things up I'd do repairs followed by cleaning. This was about the same time my wife picked up her new Jeep, she does look satisfied doesn't she:

Then during the entire year I did a little repair work on the Hustler mower, rewired my trailer 2-3 times thanks to dogs that like to chew, bought a few cars sold one of them even.

I got about a dozen pages in and then went to the last six, I'll be looking at the filler subsequently. Looks like you made good use of the Quonset. I think I read in another thread about your use of the pallet lumber & the corrugated siding as interior wall cover. It came out very good!

You can never have too-much room, I'm impressed by the home-made blasting cabinet. I just got a floor-model HFT, & have yet to build it. My projects are on a smaller scale, I like motorcycles, they take up less room than cars and trucks (C & T). I don't have storage to part-out C & T.

What a great family pic, congratulations on the home, and getting so-much done.

I don't know if anyone else mentioned it, copper for a gas line is OK for getting a car going, but I wouldn't leave it in-service. You should switch it out for steel. Much more durable, and safer, less chance of a rupture and fire.

Your loose wheel, when I was living by Lake Ontario in western NY, my dad sent me to the car shop to pick-up the VW beetle, this is back in the 1960's. I got about two miles from the shop, and started hearing a loud noise and then a continuous 'rolling-around' sound, like a marble in a tin can. Then the front of the car began imitating the paint mixer at the hardware store. I pulled-over, looked at the front wheels, pulled-off the 'dog-bowl' hubcap VW's used back then, and two lug bolts fell-out! The other two were very loose. I jacked-up the car, re-installed to ones that fell-off, tightened them all, and then checked the other wheels, they were OK. I told my dad when he came home, I don't recall what he told the shop owner. Dad was a heavy tank manufacturing plant manager. He was used to safety on the job, and something like this could have had a catastrophic ending. Thank-god it didn't.

Thank you for taking the time to read a little about what I have been up to, I know there is a lot going on on this site and it is increasingly difficult to keep up, but once I get behind it doesn't seem like I'll ever catch up. I didn't know that about the copper fuel line, I replaced it with what was originally on the car since '46. I'll dig into it more though and see what I can find out. That copper wasn't cheap though and I'm sure there will be a use for it somewhere.

I think the wheel loss story you are referring to was Bugthug's, I don't remember telling mine. I have 3 of them, one when I was still a pup riding in the back seat of my parents Festiva when the wheel hub broke off in the back, I'm sure the bearings were giving warning but they didn't have the money to fix anything then. The second was my truck before I could drive, the rear tire fell off on the way to school, went from fine to dragging on the ground in 2 seconds with lots of shaking in between. Someone didn't tighten them down when pulling the lowering blocks out. cough cough The last one was riding with my brother in his RX-7, same story as yours and luckily it didn't fall off as it was a front tire. I torque all of my lug nuts now!

Copper work hardens under vibration and is likely to fracture however that is all dependent on how much vibration it experiences. I don't think there were any copper fuel lines from the factory however they were the original flex fuel line replacement. So the hearse may have had one for sixty years. Lot of them on old tractors too. And they are not desirable for the same reason. Hearses are not high mileage vehicles and if Bug Thug does not use this as a daily driver the copper will last many years.

Be careful when you dial up the tune on your Dmax, once you get 75 HP over stock, the Allison becomes the weak link if your right foot has it's way.

Good catch on that one Andy. It was a surprisingly productive year, and I felt like I really didn't get much done, woo hoo! Thank you for the write-up on copper lines, as you said they will work harden and have a higher propensity to fracture. The line is well supported and I would be more concerned with wear on the clips from the factory. However, looking at the factory line it doesn't show any signs of excessive wear with I think 60,000 miles (96,000 kms) on the odometer. I'll discuss it with Herb and go the route he feels is correct.

I'm not much on new years resolutions but my fall back ones are to keep running (Something I mention in passing here but never elaborate on however I make time to run every day regardless of what might be going on that day.), and not die just yet, keep it simple and keep moving forward.

First of all thank you for taking the time to read and post on my thread, it means a lot that someone would take that amount of time just to read my dribble and look at my terrible photos. Keep in mind the trans didn't really give up on me so much as I broke it, too much of this I guess. I have plenty to keep me busy in the hedgerows around here, sadly lots of it isn't on my property and I don't know the owners so I'll have to ask around, I'd hate to hear about it being scrapped out!

I try to be careful with the Allison, I don't want to have to replace it anytime soon, I always keep it on the economy tune unless I tow then I move to that one and it doesn't go too nuts and I never floor it from the get go, if I do I just roll into it slowly.

Thank you Grizz, I get lots of compliments on them and everyone that comes by and goes into the shop is pretty amazed that I actually did that. (Blows on knuckles and wipes them on shirt.) I don't usually hear many compliments in person so I eat it up when I do LOL.

Anyway, I got it cleaned up a little bit and ready to paint, no I didn't strip all the paint off, but if you would like to feel free to come on down. Reason being...my wire wheel unwired all over my pants, shirt, and face (wearing goggles, better than glasses for dust as well). Also I was leaving that afternoon, I had all weekend with great temps for painting but I wouldn't be back until they had passed. So I painted it as quick as possible while still making it adequate.

I lost the plot over the summer and fall with things coming right and left at me. (All good though). Wife and I have put the miles on the subbie Tribeca this past few months all going north and east. I still want to come and see your "aircraft style hanger" sized shop.
I like the lift and the heating arrangement and your redone compressor. You have the room for about anything. I do want to get to your place one of these days.
They say 72 is just a number, of which I will be that old this month. If any advice from some old worn out guy like me counts, it is to savor every family minute, which is evident that you do that. Your family looks super in the photo.
I want to expecially thank you for the visit and my opportunity to meet you last June.
As previously stated, I have radar to come your way when things get to the point I can.
Your work and place is looking very good, and I am going to reserve the right to be jealous of your space and storage.

Once again no real progress to show, I started to clean up a little this morning but ended up starting 2 other projects instead. I pulled the tire off of the Lemon as it keeps going flat and noticed the sway bar end link was broken off. New one on order shortly and tire to the shop soon as I couldn't find a leak. Next I pulled the sheet of 16 gauge down to make access to the Lemon easier, but I don't know what I'm going to do with it yet.

What do you mean, I have tons of photos, just not many of The Lemon. Sadly that won't get any better anytime soon. Here is one from 2015 when I replaced the engine:

I had a car just like this one in high school and college until I was hit by an inattentive driver. They only made 1,107 of them in yellow (Zinc Yellow), 107 in 1999 and 1,000 in 2000. I liked the car then but knew I was pretty much doomed if I ever wanted to find another. That was in 2010 the same time our first bun was in the oven. In 2015 I found this one for sale in the parking lot across from a bbq place I'd never been to before. Told my wife I had to buy it because I'd never get another chance this close to home. She agreed and it was mine.

Yeah I know it is just an ******, but it is actually a Ford ****** ZX2 S/R! That means it has a few special things like different wheels, wider tires, intake, exhaust, tune, suspension upgrades, poly bushings, 150 mph speedo, short shifter, stiffer clutch, leather shift boot, and a few other odds and ends. Well I replaced the tires, all of the wear parts on the suspension and a few other things when one of the rod bearings rolled on me and seized it. Because of all of the work on it at first I've called it The Lemon ever since.

A picture may be worth a thousand words, so I just added in 272 in for good measure. LOL

Holy Cow!!! that's quite the Christmas present to yourself. A pretty solid looking '57 and will make a fun family cruiser when finished. I totally agree that sometimes projects just find you and when an extra good deal comes up you just have to act. Even as a 4 door I say that is a YOU **** deal.

Hopefully the rust repair is kept to a minimum and most or all the trim is there. But you certainly have the place to work on it now. Looking forward to following along on this next project adventure.

Closest I every came to losing a car was the BBQed Volvo wagon I hauled years ago. We got almost all the way home and the front tow points on the car, Which was on the trailer backwards, broke which let it roll forward ( trans linkage was melted). I saw it just as it almost rolled over the front rail. I ran a stop light while laying on the horn and drove up an embankment on the side of the road at a liquor store. The way it was strapped on the rear the straps couldn't come off unless the rear axle came out, and it would have had to climb a 5 foot tailgate to get off the back. Scared people in the parking lot to death.

I laughed at that too the first time I saw it because the standard ZX2 would only do 107 mph (171 kph) before the governor stopped the fun. I once visited Mexico and topped my first one out on a long straight flat road and surprised when it hit 137 mph (220 kph), not bad for a car with 143 hp. In theory that car would top out at 150 at redline in 5th gear. Now I'll never do that again, Mexico is too far of a trip.

Sadly no, at first I just had it strapped at the front with the wheel "net" straps. One of those mistakes when you are rushed for time and think it'll be fine even though it isn't right. Worst part was I had a few other straps I could have used but didn't think they were necessary. Lesson learned, I keep beating myself up for it, that was a dumb move. Guess what I'm asking for for my birthday though. Nice new 2" straps so I never have to worry about having them again.

I have finely put Tabasco on a pedestal:

I will have to say this was one of the most difficult things to design in this shop. I only had the one "rib" to tie into, I couldn't go down on the back because of Salt, and couldn't go up because I didn't have much to tie to. I also had to keep it close to the wall and Pepper to allow the door the most room to open. I also had to make the fittings below serviceable near the regulator/drier/oiler as well as give myself room to get to Salt to tension the belts if needed. I did load test the frame before putting Tabasco on which only weighs about 80 lbs (36 kg) and it deflected but not much, I installed the boards in a way that all of the bow would deflect to flat and not round over.

So here is the final plan, I'll run the lines as shown in green below:

Salt and Pepper will each feed Tabasco, Tabasco will then feed the S.A.S. lines. Lots of fittings, pipe, valves, and flexible hoses, but in the end I think it will be best. Tabasco will also serve as another place in the system to drop out water but I don't think I'll get a ton of accumulation there but only summer will tell for sure. No worries about running out of air in the near future though.

Condiment Corner (C.C) or is it still tornado alley ? is shaping up nicely JB, certainly won't run out of air.

Are you installing the same model pressure cutout switches on salt and pepper or just adjusting what is on them now to be the same so all tanks have equal pressure ?
