JB: looks like you've had a few better days getting R DONE around your place. great to see the go cart or whatever you are calling it running around and i'm sure there will always be a little tweaking to get that design to perform at it's best.

good luck with the Cobra and happy to hear you (or did the machine shop) found out why it was leaking.

carry on and wish I had a 12 inch rim to send you if that's the issue cause that new FERRARI looks bad ****.

cheers

Drives,
I discovered the leaking seal when I got in there to change it out, in some ways it is worrysome they installed it backwards. It was on the cap that is upside down when installing so maybe that is what caused the confusion. :headscrat

I believe I have 2 bent rims, I installed the last tire and the rim it went on seemed bent as well. I'm not planning to drive it much, but want it right either way, I'll do some thinking on it and see what I come up with.

lol. looks like you get distracted easily too! aint it funny how many different directions life can get you going at the same time!

E.Rod,
Who me, nev...Oh look a peacock. I sure do, I worked on the go cart, played in the mud with The Ford The Ferrari, started pulling the gas tank on the tractor, and installed the cobra engine. I'm glad I can keep things moving forward.

Nice progress! Thanks for the seat picture.

Pressing,
Glad to help, if you need anything else please let me know.

All,
Updates to come shortly, hopefully.

Wow have times changed since I took off last Tuesday, on the bright side I have been isolated most of the time and didn't realize what was going on, so all is well on my end of things. I spent some time working on the cobra, and got the engine in the car (old photo but keeps things interesting):
attachment.php

Everything went together great and really no issues to speak of until I went to install the new spark plug wires, turns out I bought the wrong ones so I was stuck for a while until I finely found the right set after 7 parts store runs. The next issue was the intake manifold gaskets:
attachment.php

Yep, leaking water where there shouldn't be water, all because someone forgot to put RTV around the water jackets. It was me, I'm someone. :( New gaskets had to come all of the way from Wichita, due to timing it was better for me to drive up and get them so 2.5 hours later I had gaskets and started to install them. Long story short I have it all back together and have done the break in procedure again for the cam and the first oil change is complete. Sadly it has done nothing but rain lately so I can't take it for a test drive.

But what I could take for a test drive was The Ford The Ferrari:
attachment.php

attachment.php

I need to seal the distributor up a bit, it wasn't happy there after a big water puddle, but eventually played nice until:
attachment.php

Being stuck caused us to have to walk about a mile and a half back to the house to get the girls Jeep to come to the rescue, all of the cable, and 3 tow straps to reach across but it came right out:
attachment.php

Then it was following the leader until we got back to maintained roads:

One big problem came to light when pulling it out and I'd suspected it would when swapping the lift over. The way the tie rod ends were extended wasn't ideal and one loosened up due to bolt stretch (I'll explain more when I get to the repair.) which then caused death wobble at 10 MPH. :wtf: The 4.5 mile drive home took a good bit of time but made it and I got to pose with Alex's Mustang:
attachment.php

Other shenanigans happened but no photos I will share, it was a good St. Pats with friends. Upon my return home I received my new licence plate for the Silver Rendezvous:

If the Tesla truck is ever made I'll put it up for sale, but until then I how have one. :)

It was one of those weekends where I got to check a lot of stuff off of my list, love it. If Elon calls I'll let him know everything is for sale.

It is an absolute blast, with those tires it just rips through the mud until I drag the front cross member on the ground and got high centered.

Any day you get to play in the mud and use a winch is a pretty good one. Looks like the Fordrari is a fun toy.

It is a hoot to play in War Wagon, I enjoy the playing, but the cleanup is sometimes a hassle. Luckily I have the pressure washer and I have been giving it a workout.

Just get as much mud on it as you can before coming home, then wash it all off in a low spot in the yard. Eventually it won't be a low spot lol.

I've been attempting to do that in some ways, but I also only have so much hose, I wonder if they make 1/8 mile garden hose? :lol_hitti

JB: it looks like you are having fun along with all the work and troubles.

maybe you'll own the first TESLA TRUCK in OKLAHOMA.

looks like you are making the best of your time away from work so keep up the good work, fun and try to keep Corona out of your lives.

cheers

Just build a drive through car wash with 360 degree spray coverage.

Sounds like a plan to me, maybe if it is big enough I can drive in my vehicles.

I unfortunately do not get to quarantine, I'm still at work as is my wife, we will likely not get to be isolated unless we actually get the virus. Be that as it may, I have a stock pile of projects to tide me over if I do have to quarantine.

I may get the a Tesla truck, but it'll not likely be the first in Ok. I think it has a lot going for it, but I'm really just not convinced yet, there are many challenges associated with it I am not sold on just yet for my life situation. Plus I'm sure it would get egged if I drove an electric truck to an oil refinery. :lol_hitti

JB: i'm guessing my post didn't come across correctly cause what I meant was the people up here that have the Corona virus are not in QUARANTINE and free to travel as they wish while they (THE MEN IN BLACK) shut down everything but the water faucets around here for the rest of us.

that is too funny and yes driving that Tesla to work especially with that license plate might get a few boo's and some not so nice looks. with your skills you could work at Tesla and get a FREE TRUCK maybe and then you could just drive around and smile. I hear they are making or maybe plan to make semi trucks.

enjoy your day doing whatever it is you do even if it's working at your good job.

cheers

Wow, I'm surprised they haven't gotten everyone on lock down, I know that would be tough to enforce but I would think the infected would self quarantine.

I think it would be a good place to work from what I've heard, but not at the top of my list for the time being. I wish I'd have held onto the stock I had in them a couple of months longer though, that was a great run they had from December to February.

Slow days and I'm mostly "socially distanced" but I'd rather do that from home.

In the final stretches of taking the cobra for a test drive I decided to clean out the stuff that had accumulated in the car. I didn't realize how many bags of Hot Wheels I'd stored in their prior to the HRPT upcoming. (I sure hope it is still upcoming.):
attachment.php

Everything to drive was checked off of the to do list so I went to the nice to do list and one of the tops was a windshield wiper. My wife had gotten me one for my birthday but I didn't have a good way to install it so I started playing and landed on this:
attachment.php

There are two pieces of 3/8" round turned down to .365" (9.3mm) for the base and .165 (4.2mm) for the diameter. I then tacked on a piece of .125" (3.2mm) flat I had with an existing hole approximately the right size. Welded out and cleaned up a bit:
attachment.php

Then for the test fit:
attachment.php

Yeah I really need to clean the car up, but Sunday ended up being the only day I could take it for a spin for a while due to rain and muddy gravel roads so I braved the slightly cool temperatures and went with a couple friends and he got this shot:
attachment.php

I think that is now my new favorite photo of the car, absolutely love it. I'm now playing with a pipe kinker trying to make what will resemble a roll cage for The Ford The Ferrari. I'll get some photos when I get a little further into it but it is slow going and a learning experience.

JB: i'm not sure exactly how you installed the wiper, but happy you figured out another issue and solved it so you and your bride are happy.

great looking picture and maybe it's good time to change your Avatar and some of your settings in your GJ profile while you are in there if you need to (posts per page, email notifications, ...).

hope you are staying out of harms way and keep doing what you do which is always interesting.

Yep! Excellent picture of the Cobra.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Nice action shot!

Thank you both, I was only the model, I take no credit.

Drives,
I'll have to see if I can get a better shot of the installation but essentially it is a T slot on the top of the windshield the bracket I made fits into. It is removable in just a few seconds with loosening one nut.

I don't plan to change my Avatar, I have a hard enough time keeping track of who people are on here when they don't change them so I stick to one and done on all forums.

I'll post some photos of the upcoming work when I get a bit further along, it is slow going just trying to figure it out for right now.

I thought rain-x and go faster was the way you kept the windows and cockpit clear. Good to see you got it out.

That works great when I wasn't stuck in traffic going 60 and collecting spray from semi trucks. I had a few moments (minutes) where I couldn't see anything but the white line next to me last summer. I was stuck in the left lane and couldn't see anything in front of me on some curvy roads interstates in Tennessee. Maybe I'm just getting old, but that scared the **** out of me and I happily made a removable wiper for it.

That action shot of the Cobra is money!

I agree, makes me really want to go play some more, but stupid rain is keeping me down.

I made some good progress this weekend on the roll cage and bumper, but still a long way to go. I'm waiting on some mounting plates for the floor so I had to stop early there and decided to focus on the bumper. I will say TIG welding is so much fun and I'm slowly getting better on small diameter pipe:
attachment.php

The bumper roughed in but still needs to be mounted and the ends trimmed back some:
attachment.php

To save money I'm **** welding the pipe together if I have long enough drops to make it worth it so sometimes there are welds not quite where I want them. Also if you notice on the stinger on the front bumper the pipe really started to kink when getting such a tight bend but it still turned out okay in the end.

Sunday was a beautiful day so the girls and I took a long drive in the Pink Jeep, Bear even took the wheel for a bit sitting on my lap...she needs more practice:
attachment.php

Luckily they aren't sassy at all as Cat points out here:
attachment.php

The best part is we only saw one other vehicle over the 2 hour drive, have a good one and stay safe ya'll.

All,
I am still here and am still moving, but didn't take many photos so I didn't want to post. I did install the front 2/3 of the roll cage including the harness mounts:
attachment.php

The shoulder harness wraps around the main hoop cross bar but the lap belts and submarine strip all need to mount in a "shear" configuration. To increase the shear strength I installed two tabs with a bolt through both and the harness. Here is a closeup of one of the lap belt mounts, the bar goes from the floor mounts on the A pillar and the main hoop as well as this brace directly under the attachment:
attachment.php

As an aside, the mount plates I welded to the floor which are 6"x6"x.125" (150mmx150mmx3.175mm) plate fought me the entire time. Of course there is no flat spot so I adjusted them and the floor as needed with some BFH persuasion, then no matter how much I cleaned them the welds looked like ****. Same welder and the same settings were used to weld the additional brace by the belt mount. :headscrat I'll blame it on the steel Ford used in '91, silly Ford. :lol_hitti

I'm working on the down bars in the rear now then I'll install the front bumper, and on to the suspension strengthening hopefully this weekend.

I finished the rear bars on the cage so I'm calling it done:
attachment.php

I had wanted to keep as much of the interior trim as possible and luckily enough I have been able to re-install all of it mostly un-modified. Now the carpet, nope that could be developing the next plague, it was burned!

I moved on to prepping the front bumper to get the new tube bumper mate with the old stamped steel bumper.

Thank you Marc, not even close to perfect and I wouldn't want to try to get most of it to pass tech but it should serve it's purpose just fine. I learned a lot and hopefully will do better on the next one.
