Ouch, that hurts. Glad no internal damage. Except for the power tour, you are about six years ahead on oil changes.

JB, I remember articles in Hot Rod or Car Craft that showed how to modify a stock pan to make it shallower with wings to keep or expanding oil capacity, with hinged surge doors for the wings. I couldn't find the articles but Speedway Motors sells a rear-sump shallow(er) oil pan with wings and increased capacity (9-quart) that includes the hinged setup. It isn't as cheap as a stock oil pan but it isn't stupid expensive at $110 delivered.

Of course, using the damaged pan as a start you could make your own shallow pan with wings.

Can he get it made from 1/4 inch steel?

Only thing about the Speedway pans is that they are made for left turn stock car racing, with the kickout, pickup and surge doors on the right. I bought their claimer pan kit for the additional surge doors to add to the left side of the similar pan I got for my SBC( which has kickouts on both sides for 8 qts) . I think it was like $15 and only took a few minutes to fit and weld in the doors. There are dedicated roadrace pans for the SBF, but they are about 3 times as expensive. We put a Milodon RR pan on our 94 Mustang GT track car and never had a drop in pressure in turns, running racing tires. The extra capacity helped it run cooler, too.

When I first bought the car I decided I wanted it to go so I could justify a new engine so I may not have changed the oil for a few years, just adding when it got low...I've done things I'm not proud of and I hang my head in shame.

Now you are giving me ideas Bob, I do have a welder and some scrap metal laying around.

Might be time for some skid plates.

One big skid plate and it should help with aerodynamics.

Good point there Rix, I'll have a look around and see what I can find. Oil pressure is fine everywhere, took it on a 150 mile test drive this weekend and other than a bit more sun than I'm used to it was great. Sadly I can't say the same for the girls. I left early to idle down the gravel road, the girls didn't pack sun screen. I have a good base tan from being outside way more often than them. I bought some when we got there but that was probably an hour and a half of sun. They stayed inside yesterday.

What we did was take the Jeep and the cobra to a cruise in Stillwater, Ok. The idea was to meet a group of what was a couple hundred cars, drive a short route through town and let people see. It was really nice to get to do this and I was surprised at the turnout. For the cruse part Cat rode with me:

They have been having an unofficial one in town here on Friday nights that we made it to as well, but it starts late for me. We went last Friday and didn't make it home until almost 9:30, 1.5 hours past our normal bedtime.

JB,

It was a blast, I didn't do much else this weekend besides that and mow/mower maintenance.

It was back to the Bronco III yesterday, I finished the extension on the second inner tie rod and was ready to install it. To do that I had to remove the lower control arm drop bracket. The problem was the captive nut escaped. The bolt was only sticking out 1/4":
attachment.php

Out comes the sawzall and it is free, I tried to minimize damage and therefore rework and did ~okay:
attachment.php

The repair will be interesting but I think I have an idea on putting in a new captive nut. Sadly I cam to the realization while typing this that I could have just cut the head off of the bolt and pushed it all back into the frame rail. :bitchslap Oh well.

Keep moving forward,
JB

Well I finished up all of the modifications and have an alignment in the car now, took it for a spin and all seemed fine so I loaded it up and drove to work this morning:

Surprisingly it made it just fine, a little scary but driving a 30 year old beer can on wheels will do that I suppose. Helmet made me feel better though.

I would have paid American dollars to see this

Jokes on you, I would have accepted Canadian $ or Pesos. :lol_hitti

Wait, you drive the roofless Cobra without a helmet, and the hardtop Fcar with one?

Ummmm yeah, if I wreck the Bronco III I might hit my head on the roll bar, if I dent the metal plate in my head then my hair may never part right again.

I did a bunch or yard work this weekend, clearing 1/8 mile (200 m) of fence row, sounds easy enough, well 10 hours later I realized I underestimated the job. :headscrat I'm still tired and sore, and I found some poison ivy, my favorite, I was well hydrated because it appears I had to go while I had some on my hands.

In other news I was messing with the Bronco III, I have a very noticeable vibration at low speed. In the process of trying to determine the cause I noticed the axles weren't spinning concentrically. This one was over .250" (6mm) out, after using the press and 50 trips to check the progress I got them both within .015" (.4mm), which I hope is enough, I just got to the point I was chasing my tail:

Also the stickers I ordered from China before the Covid situation started arrived, after 3 days in isolation they were installed:

If you can't see they are Ferrari symbols with a donkey in them.

JB: so you got POISON IVY on your WHAT? OMG i've heard of jalapeno seed juice on it, but not sure i've ever heard of Poison Ivy. YOU OK?

nice sticker and I heard that Covid stays on cash and maybe paper for weeks or maybe years cause who knows what's true at this point.

washing hands and not touching face has been my solution and pretty much business as usual here except when I have to wait in line at Lowe's or HD's to pick up supplies.

cheers and I hope it doesn't itch too much and if it does i'm not sure I (we) want to hear about it. :shocking:

Sorry to hear about your poison ivy issue...

Love the new decal! Looks like Donkey from Shreck!

I'm beginning to think I overshared... Too late now the internet has it for all to see...well read about, I do keep some things private still. It think that is where they got the image. I'm sure no trademarks were infringed upon.

Hungarian rubles?

Sure that works too. I was socially distanced when I got into this mess.

I'm okay, just struggling to contain the itch, part of it and I can't complain too much I haven't gotten poison ivy in a few years. I was starting to think I was immune to it now. I can assure you I am not!

Just to be safe send me all that nasty, diseased money, I will take care of it for you.

Me too, I'll keep it safe.

JB: DANG IT that sounds painful!!

hope it goes away quickly and maybe this will help you remember to not touch your face which will likely keep you from getting the Covid 19, flu and other bugs.

ALL: FYI my bride said that Covid 19 can stay active on CASH for up to 4 days so I guess the cans I buried years ago are safe enough to bring out so i'll keep the little I have for now cause it sounds like all the people telling us to not go to work have their hands out asking for money now.

cheers and enjoy your day even though a bit painful.

maybe a good go cart ride after work might help you smile.

Luckily I wasn't touching my face, it is fine with no itchy spots.

If you change your mind I'm always here to help a friend out.

I think it'll need pontoons if I try to ride it today.

My brother has had that happen 2x to him over the years. Working in an automotive assembly plant in the Midwest during the summer..... not fun.

That’s why I take off my Mtn bike gloves when I have to go now....every time .....with out fail. Witch hazel works wonders and does not sting the thing(s).

Looks like HRPT got put off until August with a new route ending in Joliet vs. Madison. Close enough to Rockford for me. I’ll be flying out to Illinois soon to get the Vette up & going for 2021 then back home to Colorado for some auto-x and track time with my son.

Witch hazel huh, never have heard of it, I'll try to find some locally.

I was worried it wouldn't happen at all, I'm kinda bummed it doesn't go to Wisconsin, I've never been there. It actually worked out great for my group because the Mustang owner had his vacation for June cancelled when they scheduled an outage then. But we are both free in August so woo hoo.

The best thing to put on poison ivy is Zanfel. You can buy it at any drug store, it's pricey but it clears it up in no time.

I'll add it to the list, thank you Mac and also nice to see you around still, hadn't talked to you much lately.

My stable is now one smaller, yesterday someone met me to buy BP 2.0, I enjoyed the times the truck performed as designed, and lamented the times it was infested by rats and mice. As a followup the dryer sheets seem to be working, no rodent problems in any of the vehicles I've installed them on. I'll clean another and take photos this weekend to prepare it for sale.

I always have to go get a shot for poison ivy. It spreads like wild fire.

You know what stops the spread of poison ivy? "Wild" fire, I think my problem is solved for the time being, with the proper application of commonly available incendiary devices I believe my problem is solved.

All,
I've been slacking in the shop lately for a few reasons. The biggest reason is there is a step challenge at work, the goal is to get 7,000 a day, my goal is to triple that with just steps. There are also step alternatives you can earn, shop time is worth ~5,000 steps an hour, whereas yard work is ~9,500 steps an hour. So my routine on the weekend has been wake up and do a bit of cleaning, run a mile, walk 4 miles, then yard work the rest of the day. During the week, I walk 4 miles before work, run a mile and walk another mile at lunch. Along with that I have tend to walk 6,000-8,000 a day doing my normal job routine. After work it is either yard work or house chores to make up the balance.

You might ask why I'm going so crazy to get more steps than needed, well my boss's team challenged my team early on. I'm NOT going to lose without putting up a fight, currently we have 2.22 million steps, they have 1.01 million. I'm not at all competitive.

JB: Impressive amount of MOVING AROUND you are doing that is for certain. so with all those #'s you are throwing down what is your average steps per day and are you using an app on your Iphone or how are you tracking all your steps and running and moving around?

keep up the good work and hope to hear you are still doing a mile run and 4 mile walk daily even when the contest is over cause OMG that will keep you healthier, but don't forget to keep the go cart tuned up and drive it around a bit too.

cheers

Did your wife work with your boss on this challenge? How can I get JB to do all the yard work this spring? Sounds like you are busy and I am not surprised that you meet the quota with the steps at work. After you get the yard work done you can then get back in the shop.

JB, sounds like you could pick up the pace if you ran everywhere and cut back on all that sleeping. Those three hours could help boost your numbers.

I'd have a lot more time for fun projects if I didn't need 6-7 hours of sleep, I'd like to sleep train to reduce that to 4 hours, but it just doesn't work for me.

Drives,
I track the steps with both my phone and a smart watch, so far this month I'm averaging 22,874 steps a day, I don't trust the step to mileage conversion they give but it is showing around 24 miles a day. :wtf: I'd guess it is closer to 8-9 realistically.

I have been running a minimum of a mile a day for just over 9 years now, May 12th was 9 years actually, I haven't missed a single day of running period. I do need to play with the go cart a bit more, it has been a while, thank you for the bump.

In the show Big Bang Theory he did similar, he was surprised about getting questioned about running 174 miles in a day. Link to video:

Dwight,
I didn't think about that, it is all a ploy, I'm a sucker. :( I doubt I'll continue to walk the 4 miles in the morning, it kills too much time to be productive in the shop. Yard is looking better though, most of what I have been trying to do is make it easier for me to mow, removing stumps, filling holes, etc. Anything that would require me to slow down while mowing within reason I'm getting rid of. So I'm really just helping me. :)

Even though I didn't take many photos it was a very productive weekend. To start it off I had a buddy over to help me put the fuel tank back in the John Deere 4010 I picked up in November. :shocking: It has been in the way of the lift for about 5.5 months now. I don't know how much I've posted on it but I thought I had a huge work list to complete but had to do some work before I could continue to troubleshoot.

Step one was to replace the battery, starter solenoid, and the main battery wiring. After that I replaced the plug wires, plugs and points. That was completed back in January or so, it wouldn't start still and I eventually determined the fuel wasn't coming out of the tank. That made me pull the tank to find out it had lots of gunk that plugged up the fuel draw. I cleaned everything up and ordered all new fuel line in April and let it set again.

Well we put it all back together and put in 3 gallons of gas, hit the starter and sprayed it with carb cleaner and it fired right up...then kept running.
attachment.php

See it moved, it was great to play with it a little the next day cleaning out the ditch in the front of the house. Really enjoying having a tractor and bucket, this will allow me to do quite a few more projects around the place once it dries up some. I went to try to buy a new battery for the Model B so I can run it again but sadly they didn't have the right one in service. I'm planning to run it again here soon:
attachment.php

I also listed my Grandmother's Buick for sale and it found a new home, sad to see it go a little but I didn't really have good justification to keep it and I'd like to trim the herd a bit:
attachment.php

Other than that it was just a bunch of small stuff around the yard, still working to clean that fence row up a bit and making really good headway, I might be able to finish it next weekend.

Having a loader tractor or skid steer is a game changer for sure!

I have stacked a lot of hay with a 4010 (dual tricycle front end) and F11 loader.

Like you, I did mostly yard work this weekend!

I've wanted one for a while now and really couldn't justify the cost sadly. A friend mentioned he was going to scrap this one and I offered him scrap value, sadly he thought scrap value was higher than it was but I still got it for $2,500, a few hundred more for replacement parts and I'm in it for less than 3 and have no complaints.

I'm now looking for bale spikes for the front and back, brush hog, and a few other cool things. I may need to replace the tires soon too, always easier to replace them before they go but I may pay someone to do the rear tires, I don't think I want any part of that.

Finally, some TRACTOR stuff!

No, you do not want any part of wrestling those rear tires. 18.4R34? They look like they might be bigger than that actually. The loader throws me off. If they hold air, leave them alone, you aren't building a show tractor or even using it daily like a fulltime farmer, nor are you spending a lot of time on the road pulling equipment or going between fields.
As for implements to get, brushhog for sure, because the live pto on the 4010 will be much nicer than using the B, although thats not a good reason NOT to use the B. Ours lived on a brushhog for years before we bought it. Forks for the loader would be good. What do you plan on doing with the bale spears? I didn't think you have a hay field or livestock? A rototiller would work on the 4010, but a plow and disk for the B would get a nice little garden ready pretty easy. Does the 4010 have a 3pt on it? A box scraper would keep your driveway(s) in shape and take the high spots off the yard so you can fill the low spots.

A $3000 4010 is nothing to sneeze at. Thats stupid cheap, considering most 4010/4020 models are going for $6000-$12000 depending on engine, condition, etc.

You are in that tractor very reasonable!

A good tire man can pull the tires and replace without removing the wheels from the tractor. It's actually not a terrible job if you have good irons and a bead blaster.
